To be fair, there's Sergio's detractors popped up about a year ago. But is it just coincidence that after Larry's biased and babbling commentary, the Sergio trolls are at a fever pitch tonight? Is Larry's negative commentary hurting boxing?
Discuss.
And another thing that gets lost in all this hate is Macklin's performance. He showed up, fought a different more disciplined fight, and gave it his all.
Not only did he have a solid gameplan, but he actually executed that gameplay and fought a composed fight. Early on I thought Sergio was trying to potshot and make him work, looking to drown him in deep waters.
Ultimately he got him, but Macklin was tough. He paced himself well early on and wasn't half as reckless as I thought he'd be. When Sergio did catch up to him, he was still fighting to win and did make it two his feet twice after two hard KD's. Of course, it's easier for morons to say Sergio's overrated and whatever else than actually praise Mack for stepping his game up.
Dont have HBO and Sergio is one of my favourite fighters but he did struggle for the first 6 or 7 rounds. Cant people accept a little criticism without crying?
That´s boxing, everybody expected a different Macklin, he always fought as a bully, putting pressure and high pace. Today he didn´t do that. Sergio still was winning rounds imo, but when the "knockdown" happened, they released a beast, and that is exciting. The last 3 rounds of the fight, Mack was beated so hard, but so hard.
don't hate Merchant now though, when Mayweather fans complain about him people defend him...but when he talks about other fighters now all of a sudden "HE NEEDS TO RETIRE" lol'
Merchant is probably on Arum's PAY ROLL, probably paid him to BASH MARTINEZ so Top Rank won't have to make the Chavez Jr vs Martinez fight lol :nonono:
I see a reoccurring theme with all these anti-merchant threads.
All of them are started and fueled by Floyd fans....smh
TBH the only sports crews I enjoy more than HBO's Lampley, Merchant, and Kellerman are Barkley and Kenny Smith w/ NBA, and Corso and Herbstreet doing college football games.
Larry Merchant job is to tell STUPID PEOPLE/CASUAL FANS what they should think about a fight or fighter lol
and then come Monday they are running around repeating what Merchant was saying during the fight lol

That's what I'm saying. People on this board whine too much.
All Merchant was saying, in a nutshell, was for Martinez to show he is a class above Macklin and dominate.
There was nothing wrong with Merchants commentary.
I dont know about all that. Merchant is annoying as hell sometimes but up until about the 8th Martinez wasnt looking like the pound for pound number 3 fighter in the world.
There is no way anyone should have him ahead of JMM p4p. JMM just beat pac his last fight. Put it this way, if they were the same size, JMM would school Martinez with ease, and that is exactly the measurement of p4p rankings.
I think donaire is a better fighter p4p as well but his resume isnt as good as some of the other guys, though the guys martinez has been facing suck too.

No argument there, but Sergio came through in the end. People complain about Floyd or Wlad fights because they aren't competitive and both guys fight conservative. Sergio has been tested by his last two opponents, competitive fights, then puts the exclamation point on them and people still complain.
Somewhat related, I hate some of Larry's ideas about the sport. Especially when he says sh1t like how can fighters be great without throwing combinations. What does that even mean? Why do you have to open yourself up to throw combinations to be seen as great at boxing?
larry merchant effect = high standards for boxing
Merchant high standards = Two guys brawling it out.
Merchant sounds like someone that hates boxing, get him the hell off TV.

Hope your trolling.
Larry Merchant effect= put down fighters and put down the sport, motivated by some agenda, and spread the hate out to the legions of people who'd rather not do their own thinking.
I watched the Sky Sports stream and it seemed like Sergio was having a hard time beating up a Sheep Herder.
This follows his last fight wherein he had a hard time beating up a Sheep Herder.
I don't know what Larry Merchant has to do with Sergio having a hard time beating Eurobum after Eurobum.
On the Barker fight, Larry was trashing BOTH barker and sergio. Its pretty bad, its not just one guy or "telling it like it is", he just likes to *****, period.
Barker was clearly outclassed, yet did way better than anyone expected him to and had a good strategy and good defense. But of course, merchant was not impressed.

In the end, he turns it on and KO's these guys. What else do you want?
Idk but it does seem like Sergio is getting alot of hate tonight on this forum. Depends on what you look for, but I liked what I saw from Martinez tonight. Struggled with Macklin in the beginning, adjusted, and KO'd him hard.
