I believe Mayweather's straight right is his most effective and lethal shot.
Surgical precision at it's best.
Which fighter do you believe possessed the best straight right?
Past or Present
Tell that to Victor Ortiz, Gatti(rip), Judah, Ricky Hatton, S.Mitchell, JMM, Shane Mosley, and soon to be Cotto just to name a few...
I guess you think Floyd is 42-0 because of his left elbow...there's always an excuse isn't there???
I think he means it's not a knockout punch. Which it isn't, Floyd isn't a KO artist but his right hand is very very good.
Hearns or Hopkins.
People are just measuring the power of the straight rightbut both Hopkins and Hearns use it for so much more. Hopkins uses it as a lead to throw off opponents, as a beautiful over the top counter, as a knockout punch or simply to keep opponents guessing it does so much more than just knock people out.
They rhyme with slomo
You know every time I see you comment in a thread all is see is hate...so I'm gonna set the record straight...Your nothing but a B!TCH ASS...straight pussie...you and the rest of the PAKTURDS are always highjacking threads with your bs propaganda...GO FUCC yourselves!
floyd's straight = accurate but not lethal
his elbow on the other hand = deadly

Damn some people claim Floyd is the best at any facet of the game
If someone made a thread asking who the best southpaw in history, half this forum would say Floyd
dude, calm down. floyd def has one of the best right hands in the game. u making it seem as if thats an exaggeration.

Not really.
The majority of people saying Mayweather are referring to active fighters.
Mayweather is clearly and obviously in that discussion.
Past: Hearns, Holmes. Both classic textbook straight right hands.
Am I the only one finding it insulting that TS mentions Floyds as the best right today? It's ridiculous.
Floyd easily has one of the best right hands in the game.

Who are these people? Everybody here has been sensible thus far.
That is a brutal picture that got taken when Marciano landed that right hand. One of those classic shots, both the punch and the photo.
Thinking of this?

I much prefer this absolutely classic shot. (Not sure if it was from the same fight.)

And I can't believe I wasn't even thinking of Arguello when I saw this thread.

All time, Hearns
Today, Floyd, wlad, JMM. A few years ago Hopkins too.
wlad has better power than the other current guys p4p but he never throws it and the competition there is atrocious. The mormeck fight was a joke. That would be like mayweather fighting casamayor at 147, an old washed up previously KTFO smaller guy.

Hahahahahaha!
note how TS asked about the best right hand, not the hardest. if we asked for that it might be edison miranda, but power alone isnt what we are talking about.
wlad has some one punch killing power in his right hand, but in terms of an all around weapon its far from the best in the sport. he hardly ever counters with it, he never leads with it and he can only set it up behind the jab or left hook. in terms of precision and timing its very good, but not on par with the best in the sport.
thats what makes hearns' right hand the best ever, not just the fact that it can take your head clean off but the precision, timing and speed of the punch. the way he could set it up in a million diffrent ways and throw it from a million different angles. he fought some of the best defensive fighters in history, they knew he was looking for that right but they still couldnt avoid it.
yall talk about "when wlad throws it" like he holds it back bcuz he feels like it. in reality he doesnt throw it its bcuz he cant figure out how to land it without being countered, or how to land it period.
i like donaires right hand, if he wasnt so in love with his left hook i think it would be an extremely destructive weapon. JMM throws every punch as good as anyone in boxing and mayweathers right hand has been nearly impossible to stop throughout his entire career, it deserves a mention too. hopkins' right is great too, like floyds not very powerful but hes a master at setting it up. leads with it, counters with it or throws it in sharp combinations, hes got such a scientific approach to boxing in general and that right hand is thrown with incredible skill and intelligence. excellent timing and precision too, his oponents cant avoid it.
Nice post.
It's so tough to say Tommy had the best straight-right hand of all time. There have been a few great ones: Louis, Arguello, etc. But the granite-chinned Roberto Duran was stopped cold only once in his long, ATG career...at the business end of a Hearns straight right.
