Read this in a new ring article. Didn't know he ****ed up his hand that bad. No wonder his knockout ratio isn't that great.
Martinez made a fist with his left hand, exposing a missing lead knuckle, in order to drive home his point. He said he broke his power hand early in his pro career, resulting in almost nine months of rehab and inactivity that tested his resolve.
“Two doctors told me that I would never box again but I viewed the injury the same way I view my difficulty getting big fights now – as obstacles that I must overcome,” he said. “I never give up. I never give in negative thinking. I know if I remain positive and motivated and I continue to work hard my goals will happen.”

Missing a knuckle won't affect how hard he hits, he'd do less damage in a street fight but with wraps and gloves completely covering the knuckles it's irrelevant in boxing.
You are totally wrong. He adapted to the situation
Cool, thanks for finding those. Couldn't find any better ones. Those are much better.
He's really unlucky that it's on his power hand and it's the middle knuckle. That's a ****ty combination. But he still managed to KO the **** out of Williams so it's all good now. I think since moving to 154 his ratio is more like 72% instead of his lifetime ratio of 51%.
yeah, that williams shot was just perfect. but like another comment said, with handwraps and gloves on, it might not make a difference. and yeah, the move up added more muscle, he's completely ripped for this fight.

This might explain why he only blossomed late on in his career. All that time when he was expected to make a big name for himself, he was busy regrouping after the operation and getting his confidence back.

I've seen a couple of pictures of Joe Frazier where it appeared he had the same disfigurement. I don't know if Joe was missing a knuckle, or if it was just broken.

Knockout ratio might not be great, but he's destroying guys lately like Williams and even Barker felt his power. Dude can still crack with the best. Macklin will be next after a great fight.
