Who is most likely to make the hall of fame between David Haye and Vitaly Klitschko?
Haye was a unified cruiserweight champion and a heavyweight title holder.
Vitaly is a heavyweight title holder but has failed to ever beat the best in his division or actually be "the man".
Who deserves the hall of fame more and why? Vote and discuss.
But he lost to Mina and didnt rematch?
Lol, is this the part where Im supposed to respond with "but Foster would have DESTROYED Mina so there was no need for a rematch"? :lol1:
Come on old friend, if you're going to bait me I know you can do better than this.
There bis a big difference between not rematching a guy you quit against and would still be in the top 10 for the next 6 years and losing to a veteran top 5 light heavyweight at the time as a 13 fight novice. You can also couple that with the fact Mina retired from boxing 2 years later and Foster still only had 24 fights.
Maybe Mina retired because he was afraid Foster would seek a rematch, since he had entered the top 10 shortly before. :dunno:
With 15 defenses as the recognized light heavyweight champion and the career defining ko of Tiger, I'd say undoubtedly.
But he lost to Mina and didnt rematch?
Vitali sadly never had a lot of competition, and we all knoe if he would have cme out for the 8th against Lewis he would have scored a ko,that eye was nasty though, and in my mind he has been the man since except for his layoff, he wont fight his brother what does the man need to do?Haye was a unified Cw champion in a division that espn doesnt even cover, beating a pack of bums is not that impressive.
Hows it going jab ltns
Whats good Mark? Haven't seen you posting much lately, where you hiding?
thats the problem of letting borderline candidates inside the hall...
vargas was good and all... i like his machismo and the way he integrated it with his above average skills, but compared to the mccallum, norris, hearns, monzon? he is quite inadequate... (at least for me)
why is popularity fast becoming a criteria for HOF induction is something i cant understand...:dunno:
Because they have no basic criteria for enshrinement and let journalists vote.
I be honest with ya. I don't know who Lazslo Papp is and I don't think McGuigan achieve my "five second HOF rule". So I don't think McGuigan is a clearcut HOF.
Vargas's win over Wright is somewhat close and controversial. So other than Quartey, no other "highly significant" wins. And he does not have much career longevity either.
Vitaly has longevity and dominated over the "best" (or best of rest since not fighting with his brother) of that division that has to offer. One can also argue with "it's not his fault the HW sucks" card. Now whether Vitaly is a top 5 HW of all-time then I would say no (in less than 5 sec).
I can live with that.
What about Bob Foster? Should he be there?

Lets expand on fighters who may or may not make the hall of fame.
Does Fernando Vargas belong in the HOF? He beat Winky Wright, Ike Quartet and 4 other fighters who held titles at one time or another. He also had 5 or 6 title defenses after claiming the IBF title in his (I think) 14th pro fight. Had a legendary fight with Trinidad and a great war with Oscar, as well as always being entertaining. Should he get in?

The Trinidad fight was a great fight. After getting caught cold in the first Vargas got himself back in it and almost had Tito out in the 4th but for the intentional low blows.
Back to the topic though. If fighters like Lazslo Papp and Barry McGuigan are in, and Vitaly is being touted as a hall of famer without a career defining win, nor ever being the top dog...why not Vargas?
Mind you Im not disagreeing, just curious as to your reasoning. Im personally in favor of raising the standards for admittance.

Someone who deserves to be IBHOF usually does not require much LONG pensive thinking. It usually is quick and "obvious".
No on Vargas.
Legendary beatdown by Trinidad you mean. Oscar basically put a shell and let Vargas punch himself out.

The dude who wears pink toga in boxing trunk in your avatar is more likely to make IBHOF.

he's popular but not great. i don't think being popular should get you in otherwise we are gonna get a lot of guys like chavez jr in the hall soon; guys that never really fought or beat the best but were just marketed as stars.
I don't disagree with you but it is what it is. I spoke with another voter once who I have a LOT of respect for. His take is that, hey, keep your P4P. Heavyweights are still the best in the world in reality. He'd vote for Vitali despite some lacking resume.
I don't think it hurts the Hall when Vitali gets in anyways. Most people thought he was the best (or 1A) Heavyweight for close to a decade. For the most part, overwhelmingly, the right guys are in. It's a perspectives issue.
I do my part to try and get the deserving but overlooked in. My issue is more with who ain't than who is.
Just look at the names that haven't got in yet, all to be back on the ballot again, most already there for years: http://www.bwaa.org/ibhof.htm
Since we started doing this, Chang, Cocoa and Marshall...all in. That's a good thing.
The question though is more likely. That's Vitali. He's a Heavyweight and that means a LOT in terms of the Hall.
I doubt Haye makes it because the largely U.S. voting pool is going to hold that Wald win against him. I don't know that I'd vote for either if they were on the ballot this coming year given who else is on it.
