I was thinking about this during Floyd's talk about "self preservation" and how he doesnt want to end up like Ali. I look back at all the boxers who have or are currently suffering from brain injuries due to boxing, and my compiled list is mainly black boxers.
Ali, Meldrick Taylor, Holyfield, Riddick Bowe, R.I.P Frazier, Hagler, etc.
I'm sure I'm missing quite a few but the ones I mentioned above either have serious conditions such as Ali and M.T, or have a heavy slur when they speak do to many blows to the head.
Now when I think of other races, I cant recall many if any boxers who are suffering from these conditions. I think of Mexican fighters such as Chavez Sr, Morales, Barrera, Vargas, and a few of the older Mexican greats. I dont recall any of them showing any signs of brain damage. Same for a fighter like Trinidad who's been in many wars. I know Hector Camacho Sr slurs but I'm not sure if its from boxing, or a combination of that along with years of drug use.
Feel free to add names who you know belong on the list of damaged boxers.
Boxers dont slur their words or have brain injuries nowadays. Listen to any present day retired boxers speak and they have no problems.
It is mostly cliched when boxers are in films made of boxers that they talk with slurs but doesnt represent reality.
Look at klitschos talk, david haye, paul mallignaggi, audley harrison and so on and so on.
have you herd Antillion speak?
A cliche? GTFO! LOL. It's obvious you've never heard someone like Riddick Bowe speak then! When is the last time you've seen a video of a retired Meldrick Taylor?
I was just with Mark Breeland a few weeks back (Alexander-Maidana weekend) and he said he talked with Taylor on the phone and couldn't understand a word he saying.

I never said he had "massive brain damage". If you pull up video of him from 10-12yrs ago and compare his speech from then till now, you'll notice a prominent difference.
I never said that you said that, just letting you know what I know from talking with him over the years.
He sounds like Evander to me, but he doesn't have massive brain damage.

So why is Floyd scurr then?? Lil floyd is afraid of a brain damage midget??
The irony of a quote like this, in threads like these; is why boxingscene is so amusing.
Aside from meldrick and hagler those are all heavyweights. Maybe that has something to do with it rather then skin color.
Well there were many white HW's back in the day. Any record of any of them suffering from brain injuries once they retired?
Gatti took more shots to the head than anyone I can remember and he seemed fine up until his untimely death.
I'm not trying to make this a race issue. I'm only pointing out a coincidence I see when it comes to black boxers and brain injuries.
My hypothesis would be that American boxers in general would seem to have higher rates of these disorders. However, I think this would have a much more rational explanation.
America has been the apex of the boxing world for quite some time. Boxing might have been more culturally significant in the past, but many of those former boxers are still around and getting on in years. Elements like heightened awareness of neurological conditions and media attention to sports related head trauma issues in a first world country like America also factor in. Lastly, many past Mexican fighters and fighters from lesser developed nations likely just return to their homelands and remain out of the American public eye until their passing.
So, no. In all likelihood African-American boxers aren't more susceptible to head trauma, they are just way more likely to have attention paid to it when it does happen.
edit: It would be interesting to see if there are studies out there about frequency of concussions and other neurological problems in terms of weight class more so than by race.
If you personally know him you would notice that he has quite a slur when he speaks now compared to years ago.

I personally know Evander Holyfield, what brain injuries does he have?

Well, while they don't really know if boxing can lead one to developing Parkinson's disease you can add Freddie Roach to that list who was a boxer and suffers from it and he's not black.
