Pacquiao asks BIR for time to present records

MANILA, Philippines - World boxing champion and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao appealed yesterday to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to give him more time to present his tax records after the agency filed contempt charges against him in a Koronadal court for failing to submit the required documents.
Pacquiao said there could have been some miscommunication or an honest error on the part of his staff and stressed he has no intention of violating any BIR regulation.
“I already sent a staff member to the BIR office. But if they (BIR officials) saw something wrong, I wish they would give us enough time to correct it,” Pacquiao told GMA-7.
BIR Commissioner Kim Henares earlier told The STAR that the world boxing champion is facing contempt charges and not tax evasion charges.
The BIR, through the agency’s regional director Rozil Lozares, issued a Letter of Authority to Pacquiao requiring him to submit documents to the agency regarding his earnings and corresponding tax payments.
“All our regional directors can issue a Letter of Authority. It’s a normal examination,” Henares said.
She said taxpayers, especially those with businesses, should be subject to a tax audit at least once a year.
The BIR’s Letter of Authority is an official document that empowers a revenue officer to examine and scrutinize a taxpayer’s books of accounts and other accounting records, in order to determine the taxpayer’s correct internal revenue tax liabilities.
Henares said the BIR has been asking Pacquiao to submit his tax records to the agency to check if there are deficiencies but he apparently snubbed the agency’s request for documents.
ABS-CBNNews.com said the BIR wants to investigate 33 tax records, including Pacquiao’s annual income tax return in earnings from his fights against Antonio Margarito and Joshua Clottey.
The BIR also asked Pacquiao to disclose data on his product endorsements.
So Henares said that manny is facing contempt charges and not tax evasion charges.
I think that clears things up.
Correct. Contempt charges because he failed to obey summons sent to him. The presumption that he has committed tax evasion comes in only if the tax authorities find out EVENTUALLY that he has underdeclared at least 30% of his income.
You had your chance to obey the law Pacquiao...You chose to do the wrong thing, so stop crying, complaining and do your 2 years...dont try to fix it now, its too late for that...You should have fought Floyd and took less, but now you dont need to worry about that at all...Floyd will finish Cotto, do his 3 months, then he will fight Martinez, and Martinez will take the blood and urine..Night-night, keep ya butthole tight!
What an ignorant clown. No site beats Boxingscene for malicious ignorant clowns.
Manny is a true piece of sh1t who does a nice guy routine. There is NOTHING I detest worst than a phony. At least Floyd keeps it real, and sincere.
Pacquiao will be getting bent over the sink soon enough by Bubba and his boys.
I doubt it, I'm sure whoever his cell mate is, will have to meet some kinda catchweight demand

Floyd's "bad guy" image is almost as bad as Manny's "good guy" one
if you detest one, you gotta detest the other, right?
If it aint a big deal, then he wouldn't need time at all.. Just continue to disregard the demands of the BIR
But seriously.. I hope nothing bad comes out of this. Manny seems like a humble guy. We all have our faults and hopefully he's a late bloomer when it comes to life lessons so I wish him nothing but the best. That doesn't mean I won't LOL at his fans though cause I will
