I am gonna have to go with Sergio if i was Floyd i would beat Cotto then go straight to 160 and take Martinez out. Cant believe some people are saying career defining fight for Floyd if he fights him hahaha
I never heard a single person saying Martínez is better than Duran, never, but well. Duran is probably the best fighter ever, and he would beat Martínez in 154 with no doubt in my mind. But this is not a point to say Martínez is overated, the point is he beat Pavlik when he was a big underdog in that fight, he beat Paul Williams with a terrorific KO, a man who never was KO´ed before or after that fight or stopped, and that includes a suspicius Margarito fight. He beat Dzinziruk a six years bet holder, Barker undefeated, Macklin who should have the sturm belt. If you go back, he fought on the road many times being always the underdog, Richard Williams twice, Adrian Stone, Bunema just ko'ed an old Karmazin and he was stopped by Martínez. All of this on the road, no home made decisions.
I know I´m talking with a wall, you never will change your opinions, but all of these are facts. I think is a very good career, obv not Duran or SRL level, but who can say that nowadays, Floyd? Pacman? Get real.
NSB's thoughts on how martinez would do during the MW landscape during the early 90s?
it was a badass era populated by legit contenders...
mccallum, toney, kalambay, nunn, barkley and those british guys...
a fight between martinez and roberto duran (that beat barkley) would have brought the house down...
i think duran would knock him the hell out after picking him apart and beating him up.
tenth or eleventh
just think about the beasts that duran hurt (hagler, barkley jump out at MW.) when he was motivated he was just an awesome fighter
i dont think martinez takes punches well. i'm not saying hes not tough or that he doesnt at least have a decent chin. i'm saying he doesn't do well taking the punches. they effect him and he shows it.
and timing beats speed every time.
martinez is the outright bigger man, and the battle weight at 160 would help him stay upright, but lets be honest with ourselves here.
martinez has had problems with pavlik, williams, dzinziruk, macklin, barker
duran would bust him up. he's not some huge and physical MW who would simply be too man much for duran to handle (hearns G man, fitzsimmons, etc)
Timothy Bradley.
Ive been shocked at just how many people are tipping him to beat Pacquaio. I would imagine a poll on here would be pretty close on that fight.
I agree.
I think Bradley is a good fighter and I like that guy but I can't see him not getting a beating from Pacquaio.
What was dude's record? Didn't Macklin go over to Germany and smack Sturm around in his own backyard and many feel he should have the belt ? Was Dzinziruk an undefeated title holder who had never been down in his career? Wasn't Williams the much bigger and supposed scariest guy on the planet? Wasn't Pavlik the recognized middleweight champ of the world and the tremendously larger man?
I mean, come on....compare what he has done over his past 5 to what Flamboyant Floyd has done or what Punchout Pac has done. Many people feel that Pac lost his last outing and Floyd had to resort to questionable tactics to win his last fight but all that is cool and they are the epitome of dominating force? Wasn't JMM 37? Mosley too? How come Pac couldn't put em away? How come Floyd didn't KO old bloated JMM.....isn't he the p4p#1 or 2 guy? Did he have an off night or something?
What did my post have to do with Pacquaio or Mayweather?
Why are you so obsessed with KO's?
Oh my God, Martinez knocked out Darren Barker! Amazing!
It's not an amazing feat to do that.
I don't consider Martinez to be overrated. Perhaps by a few of his fans but that's where it stops.
I have him in my Top 5 P4P and he's arguably Top 3, IMO. In his last few fights he's had very good wins, some solid wins, and some sh*t wins.
I was simply questioning the idea that Martinez is doing what the fans ask constantly. I'm sorry, no one asked Martinez to fight Darren Barker and the fact he was undefeated and stopped doesn't make that win any more impressive than what it is - Sh*t.

Yeah, another Sergio bashing thread. But answering your question, I would say Pacman and Rios are the most overated fighters imo. Ríos will find hell in Abril, who´s not a top level cuban neither, but he have good hand speed and can move pretty well, enough to battle whith that brawler Rios is. Pacman is very good, but P4P 1#? That´s a joke, he should have lost atleast twice with Pacman, and then fought people when they come of a loss, see Cotto, Hatton etc.
Timothy Bradley.

sergio struggles vs bums, fact!......
Another KO victory son....must have done something right. Don't be mad that my boy keeps racking em up...trust me, Bradley will too when he puts Pac's run to an end.
Martinez is doing what all the fans want boxers to do..... fight the likes of Darren Barker who has only had a single fight above domestic level.
But he's undefeated and Sergio won by KO so of course that makes it fine.

Over rated, lol, Chavez jr is over rated, JuanMa is over rated, Berto is over rated. If the guy wasn't as good as he appears to be, how come he is beating guys with undefeated records and guys that should be champions by KO time and time again? How come he has fought all over the world, most of the time being the underdog and he hasn't lost in 12 years. He started fighting at 20 and has more professional wins than Floyd does, he even has more KO's than Floyd does.
If anything, Martinez is one of the only "top" boxers out there living up to the hype. :haha:

Has to be Brandon Rios by far.
2nd place: Adrian Boner
3rd place: Donaire, expect him to get knocked out once he starts fighting guys his size.
I didnt mention JCC Jr. because he's a joke
rigondeaux
he beat the truck out of rico flippin ramos. what top fighter wouldnt? does anybody think that ramos would go the distance with donaire, vasquez, nishioka, etc? dude's a btch. until the stoppage rigondeaux didn't really do much. he looked like garbage against the best fighter he ever fought (a faded ricardo cordoba.)
he could prove the overrated tag wrong, but until he does i think people are jumping the gun...
...Rigondeaux (this guy has 9 fights and all of a sudden because he beat rico ramos for a world title he is gonna easily stomp over donaire and the entire Bantamweight division when his best win is ricardo cordoba? pleaaaase)
I think the main reason why Rigo's supporters (myself included) think he's so great is because of his amateur accomplishments and his apparent talent and abilities. It has absolutely nothing to do with Ramos or Cordoba. (Guillermo looked horrid against Ricardo.) Perhaps the fact that "El Chacal" only has nine pro fights against less-than-stellar opposition technically makes him overrated.
The first guy that comes to mind when I think "overrated" is Saul Alvarez. I think "Canelo" is a decent fighter, but he just doesn't impress me as someone that'll be great some day. The kid's 39-0-1 at the age of 21. He's being carefully built as a piggy-bank. But an old, shot Shane Mosley might actually expose the young pretender. Saul's handlers might very well regret the name they chose to add some glitter to Alvarez's resume.
Oh my where do i start.....
Mayweather Jr (undefeated and p4p yeah yeah blah blah but some of the crap his fans come out with is unbelievable)
Pacquiao (gets his fare share of fans overrating him in the past but not as bad as floyd ever since the marquez fight)
Rigondeaux (this guy has 9 fights and all of a sudden because he beat rico ramos for a world title he is gonna easily stomp over donaire and the entire Bantamweight division when his best win is ricardo cordoba? pleaaaase)
Bute (enough said has not fought A class competition till now which i give him credit for but nearly got Knocked out by andrade and his fans claim he is gonna walk over froch)
Martinez (to an extent i mean i like the guy but in the past he gets overrated but now since the barker and macklin fight the boxing fans on this site as fickle as they are have changed their opinions easily...)
Broner (some on here are actually saying he is the next great fighter of this decade after mayweather....lmao talented yes i like him but overrated)
Klitschko Brothers (hear me out they get vastly underrated by alot of fans because of their competition but they are also partly overrated because alot of their fans claim that they would easily make work of guys like Ali, Foreman etc)
