Herbie Hide vs Dameon Reed.
That as for the WBO title so not really a heavyweight title fight and it was on the undercard of a featherweight match. Heavyweight title at its worst Id say.lol! back then the WBO was just a regional belt so any WBO champ before 2005 was not a world champion. any WBO title fight for calzaghe before this date was also NOT a title fight. WBO title started getting recognized after wlad\brewster...hide, morrison, mercer, damiani, etc were NOT world champions. when wlad fought sanders & lost his WBO title it was not a world title fight. sanders vacated the title to get his WBC title shot with vitali. WBO was a longtime european\asian regional title much like the NABF or EU. anytime an american won it they vacated it. it was a stepping stone to a world title shot.

Holyfield-Czyz wasn't a title fight.
And by worst do you mean poor performances by both guys or just mismatches?
Bowe-Ferguson was a blowout and a mismatch. But Bowe didn't perform poorly. He just dominated. Then again, a lot of champs have dominated overmatched challengers.
Essentially every Ali title defense in the 1960s was a complete mismatch. But, since Ali performed great, nobody says they were awful - even though NONE were competitive.
I don't put mismatches like Foreman-Roman or Klitschko-Mormeck in the "worst" category, because one guy performed great and it ended in a convincing Ko.
The "worst" heavyweight title fight I ever watched was either Ruiz-Rahman, Ruiz-Oquendo or Byrd-Williamson. Byrd-Williamson was awful. Neither guy threw a punch for 12 rounds. They just stared at each other or clinched. People thought Jean Marc Mormeck looked bad Saturday. Byrd-Williamson was like TWO MORMECK's were fighting each other. Truly awful. Both guys were pathetic.i'm talking a guy defending his belt vs an unworthy opponent...thought the holyfield czyz fight was a title fight...
forgot about seldon\hipp...was that on tyson\mcneeley undercard?
yes, it was in the undercard of Tyson-McNeeley, think about the talent of the heavyweight division back then and the WBA could offer a Seldon vs Hipp title fight.
some of the worst title defences ever...
chagaev vs drumond
maskaev vs okello
valuev vs beck
holyfield vs czyz
bowe vs ferguson

Dude Marciano made a killing off old ass dudes. That's just how I see it.
ok well if you don't want to look at facts be my guest. the only "old" guy he fought was louis and he beat him before he even became champ. his title defenses were against all top ranked guys. if they were old and crappy would they be top ranked guys? makes no sense but ok.
A lot from Joe Louis, Marciano and Jack Johnson as well.
a lot from marciano? do you even know what you are saying or are you just throwing out names?
here are marciano's title fights
he beat the heavyweight champ walcott
he beat walcott again in the rematch who was rated number 1
he beat lastarza who was ranked #7
he beat ezzard charles twice who was ranked #2
he beat don c-ockell who was ranked #2
he beat archie moore who was ranked #1
those are the worst title defenses ever?
you can add 80 % of Joe Louis' title defences to this thread.
no you can't. only 7 of his defenses were against unranked guys. wlad's already had 9 defenses against unranked guys. louis also beat the number 1 ranked guy 7 times(8 if you count max baer who he beat before he became number 1 again) wlad has beat the number 1 guy 1 time...vitali 0 times...all time greats....lol
think about how many people were cutting mike tyson down after he pulled out of his title fight with ruddick in edmonton after greg paige dropped him sparring. tyson ran out of gym freaking out & pulled out of fight. it was the first ***** in his armour. instead of rescheduling with ruddick he fought buster douglas in japan instead.think about it...42-1 odds & i bet everyone was hating on tyson for taking this fight....what should have been a mismatch turned into the biggest upset in boxing history.
say what you will about wlad vs mormeck, haye vs harrison, chagaev vs skelton. i was critical in the past of these fights but when i think about it now you actually can justify them more then other fights. mormeck was former world title holder at CW & he had wins over fres oquendo & timur ibragimov. he has a good following in france & brought many french people to the stadium in germany. 50000 people means good money for both. mormeck probably got french tv money as well. this is a great payday with little risk for wlad. audley harrison won prizefighter & then the EBU belt which gave him top 10 WBC ranking. those credentials are more deserving then anything albert sosnowski did. matt skelton was commonwealth champion & was coming off wins over sprott & danny williams.
I didn't see Mormecks most recent fights at hw but according to the EPIX announcers he lost at least 1 of them and could have lost all 3. Wlad vs Mormeck was a glorified sparring session and a disgrace of a HW title fight. I respect Wlad as a fighter and I understand there arent many options available but that fight was just a joke and an embarassment.
Morrison against Tim Tomashek and Michael Bent (even though he lost).
Chuck Wepner also sucked.
the WBO belt was not a recognized world title until the mid's 2000s.
Maskaev-Othello, the worst of them all
Brewster-Meehan for the WBO title in 2004
Seldon-Hipp
forgot about seldon\hipp...was that on tyson\mcneeley undercard?
