As a true contender as the ATG?
There has only been two justifiable candidates for the true ATG of Boxing and those two are Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson. Of course there will be many people who have their own choice as the ATG but that would be more their opinion as a fanboy and not as a true Boxing argument. As Boxing fans surely we can all/most of us admit that those two have been the only two real candidates for that title. Or are they? Has Floyd Mayweather done enough in his career to have his name up alongside those two titans of Boxing?
Now this most likely will have been asked before but i have not seen nor was i around at that time to engage in that particular discussion.

oustside of 3 fights, his comp is similar to floyd's.
meaning his comp is better than floyd's.
at least winky has some fights with a couple prime hof fighters....
take away floyd's 3 best opponents- corrales, castillo, and genero and what do you have? A LOT worse comp than winky's.
His competition is better than Mayweather's.
So is Oakland Billy Smith's. So is Juan Laporte's. And?
The only HOF fighter you could argue Winky Wright fought in his prime was Shane Mosley.
And to be honest, you could even argue Shane was past his very best at that point. At 154, how many years since a legit win?
Weve gotten way off thread topic. Ive explained myself.
LOL ok, i was thinking the same thing.
So what was this topic about again...oh yeah Floyd's not the greatest of all time.
Does it really make THAT big of a deal who calls out who, so long as the fight happens? would that be the out if Floyd were to lose to Sergio (he won't)
I mean wasn't Hagler pushing for the fight with Leonard?
Weve gotten way off thread topic. Ive explained myself.
Look, Ive explained my position 5 times. I have no problem with floyd and martinez fighting, but I do have a problem with Sergio calling out manny and floyd, who are at 147 while he is the 160 lb champ.
FLoyd/cotto is being done because floyd/manny couldn't. its the most lucrative fight other than manny. its not like floyd is moving to 154. That said if he ends up staying there then so be it.
Thought manny/cotto was fine except I don't like any champ to have to defend title at a weight lower than his title's max. Thats why I hope Sergio's mw title wont be on line if they fight at 154. I thought clottey was paid to take punches.
Also wouldn't that make the victory for Floyd that much better...defeating a bigger guy that called him out?
Just about.
His competition hardly blows Mayweather's away. Outside of 3 fights his competition is nothing to shout about.

WTF does Floyd's (which is really your) reasoning for fighting at 154 have anything with the justification of a Martinez fight?
1. Both sides (Manny and Floyd) are at least, in some ways, no matter who's d*ck you ride, partially to blame for the fight not happening.
2. Let's just say Manny is the one who won't take the fight, It's only OK to fight Cotto then?
3. I'd like to know what your opinion of Pac fighting Cotto at 145 and Clottey at 147, I'm guessing you thought THAT was BS though...

No one is crapping on it. Man you guys are really ****ing on something today. The point is what MW champ calls out a ww champ?
a broke one.........that's 37 and desparate
of course, but its not for the challenge of fighting floyd, its to get paid.
that was Floyd's reason to fight DLH, you just said so like 2 posts ago?!
Don't worry I'll respond for you...
"Floyd moved UP in weight to fight DLH. Sergio is moving DOWN"
I didnt say winky was that in this thread, I said he managed to fight better comp than floyd. Not sure where you picked that up. Winky became everything he despised and was a horrible businessman. He fought better comp than floyd though and took more chances.
Just about.

Get your point but Floyd is the ww champ, fighting at 154 because Manny wont take fight. He fought at 154 vs ODH for the check. Its not like he is moving to 154 man please.
Would love to see it so long as Sergio doesn't have to put up his MW title.

I could MAYBE see if Floyd-DLH never happened at 154; but it did. And Cotto-Mayweather wasn't scheduled to happen; but it is.
As of May 6, I believe Floyd will be WBA 154lb champ. So if Sergio is willing to shed another 6 pounds to make that fight happen, Sergio is the one making concessions for the fight to happen.
of course, but its not for the challenge of fighting floyd, its to get paid.
Dunn, i dont get why you're trying to shi t on the floyd-sergio fight. Many fighters would take that fight. Its only 1 weight class different.

LMAO, Floyd won a f*cking world title at the division Sergio is calling him out at. JMM didn't do sh*t at 140.
You don't want to see Floyd vs Sergio at 154, that isn't a legit fight?
If Floyd was the one calling out Sergio then that makes it OK?
:dunce:

Sergio the mw champ, is calling out floyd weight classes beneath him, at 154 the weight in between. If floyd did the same thing, which for example would be if he called out JMM, who is 2 classes beneath him (135) for a fight at 140 (in between) you'd laugh.
Bottom line is you don't call out a guy 2 classes beneath you.
