Yes, I know some boxers do not qualify for the bigger promotional companies but if you were a good boxer worthy of a tier 1 promotional company who would you sign with and why?
I don't know why everyone keeps bringing up Donaire??Dude is on the P4P list(higher then he belongs imo)and has won multiply Championships,I say TR did a great job with that young talent...
for a small fighter he gets paid an awful lot of money
When it comes to boxing You have to go to vegas because they have the best trainers & fighters... So youre being taught by the best while fighting the best which could only lead to good results.... as far as promoters go I would have to say anybody outside of the known crooks, the safest bet would be to sign with someone like al haymon & let him guide your career! But most importantly you must make sure the contract you sign is in the benefit of the fighter & not the
Im on my way to vegas myself to train with the best fighters and trainers & turn professional sometime next yr( I would like to train with the mayweathers but thats nearly imposible seeing that everyone wants to so ill find another trainer) so ill just look for the be$t contract instead of the "best" promoter
because the last thing I would want to do is become another puppet like pacquiao getting snacks while the promoter eat steak & potatoes!
With that said im signing with al haymon!
wait
Freddie Roach
Nacho Beristain
Robert Garcia
Virgil Hunter
all train in Vegas?

Top rank, rack up wins against softies or old motherf@kers while getting paid.
lol good one
ask how thats working out for all the fighters not under a promotional contract
the whole notion that fighters do not need promoters is very off. Very very few enjoy that luxury (only two at the moment) and even then need use a promotional company to promote their fightIt got BHop blackballed out of fights he deserved for almost a decade and all ESPN and HBO ever did was vilify him constantly calling him boring, outspoken, greedy, racist, etc...
As for the TS question...Top Rank all the way for the time being they have the most connections and the deepest pockets.
Recent starts: Oscar de la Hoya, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Top Rank fighters. After Top Rank made Oscar brand, he went solo and did great. Floyd follow and did great also. Now Cotto is following and he is fighting for what is probably the highest purse of his career. So I dont understand what is the complaining about Top Rank. They take a name and make a brand. They know what they are doing.
Ask Sergio how is it working for him.
Don King or Top Rank. So I can be given a world title, get paid millions of dollars to fight some schmuck they pass off as a challenger. And only have to worry about losing by KO.
id start my own and not pay someone for talking on my behalf....self promotion is where its at

This post is full of sh!t,GBP throws their young talent in tough because they have no choice in the matter, they don't know how to promote and make stars cause they can't build a fighter up for long periods of time, unless they are a very good ticket sell..I.E.Alvarez,Khan is thrown in tough because he wants to be a star in the states, that sh!t cost money..He has to fight tougher opponents unless he wants to bring his azz back to the UK...Ortiz is the same thing, and let's not act as if both the two fighters named did not have a bunch of gimmi fights along the way,GBP just can't sustain it over time..
TR is putting Rios and Gamboa in together,Bradley and Pac,they put Donaire in with Chinny when that seemed very dangerous, and Donaire beat Montiel..Let's not forget TR made Oscar and Floyd,to say they are not the best Promotion company is plain stupid...GBP has not produced a major star yet, their getting close with Alvarez, but I suspect they will put him in the ring with someone who will beat his azz real soon..Besides,tbh Alvarez is not that good from what I seen from him so far..
Look at what you just said. To be a star, you have to fight tougher opponents. What part of that is bad? How is that bad promoting? If you want to be the best, beat the best. So if you are a rising prospect and want to take the next step to stardom and lose to a guy like Maidana. Then that shows you, you aren't ready. Now if you beat a guy like Maidana or Peterson, then you get elevated to the next level where you got the popularity and the attention of the big money fighters.
Like I said, it depends on the type of person you are. If you want to be sheltered and wait till you're in your late twenties to get the opportunity to fight for multi-million fights, then top rank. If you want to be that rising star that becomes absurdly popular by the time you hit 25, then Golden Boy is where you go.
I for one don't want to wait. I don't want to fight scraps when I know I am a good boxer that can take on the best. I want to be like Leonard, I want to be like Ali. I don't want to be Cotto, who at 28 finally fought someone worth a damn.
And to bring up Gamboa and Rios is irrelevant. Gamboa and Juanma were the cream of the crop and never fought each other. Why? Protection. Ortiz could have had his career derailed with Berto, yet GBP still makes it happen. Fight of the year, and Ortiz removed the idea of him being weak minded by the boxing experts. Once again being a viable option of an opponent and got a Mayweather fight.
Bradley hasn't fought anyone in his career, his whole career and now is matched up with Pacquiao. Khan, Maidana, Marquez, Guerrero. Yet Bradley doesn't fight a single one. Instead opting to fight irrelevant people.
This isn't about loving one over the other. I'm keeping it real. It's all business. You seem to have a distinct bias towards Top Rank for whatever reason. But keeping it real shows that if you were to be a good boxer, rising prospect. You would get the most in the shortest amount of time by being with GBP. Being popular and earning top dollar at 25 instead of almost 30 or in your 30s.
TR making Oscar or Floyd doesn't even matter. The fact of the matter is, a very good boxer who knows how it is from personal experience owns GBP. He knows whats up first hand, so he gives the fighters what they want. Does it always work out? No. But it shows that YOUR career is in YOUR hands. Don't step up, if you can't put up.
IDK Rome homie. I think Flicker has a very good point TBH. When Nonito starched Vic, his career should not have stalled the way it did. And GBP is all abot putting young fighters in tough who should be ready for large step up's in comp by the time GBP matches them. TR is having to keep up with GBP, and thats why we are starting to get those fights that you mentioned, Timmy/Pac and Yuriorkis/Brandon. TR has to match the pace that GBP is starting to set. Which is a win/win for us Boxing fans if you ask me bro.
Chiefy!!!!How's it hanging???I think Donaire was moved great bro,he is a multiply time world Champ and has been in tough..Even Gamboa and Rios and JML have been in tough, the difference is,is that TR fighters have been winning(with exception to JML)...I don't know I would rather be with TR,their clearly a better promotion company..When I got bigger I would leave umm no doubt, but as a good young fighter TR has to be a dream come true tbh...

If I got with Top Rank I'd get out of it once I got a slight hint of success. Like someone said earlier, look at Donaire. Dude is that good, but it seems like Top Rank barely gives a ****.

You can tell who is nuthugging from the gitgo.
In all logic, I don't see how anyone can sign with Top Rank. Look how long it got Nonito on the map. It took him forever and a day to become relevant, even with all of his talent. To sign with Top Rank you have to be content being on the back burner and not getting any real promotion done to your career.
I personally would sign with GBP. For reasons being that they can get you the most exposure in the shortest amount of time. And they aren't afraid of throwing their rising talent to the wolves. If you make it out alive, you're ****ing golden.
I'm going strictly by business. If you want to get to the top in a hurry, then GBP is where you go. If you're the type of person that just goes with whatever a person tells you, then Top Rank is where it is at.
I for one, ain't about waiting for someone to give me scraps, GBP is more willing to have a top earner go head to head with a rising star. They've done it countless times and even derailed rising talent because of it.

I would have Al Haymon as my manager and GBP as my promotors and I would have Nacho as my trainer. I would walk in the ring like Roy Jones used to in his tuxedos looking like a boss.

That's why Golden Balls ruins most of their young contenders. As for Top Rank and Donaire, I think you have it all wrong. Donaire signed with Top Rank in July 2008. That's 3 1/2 yeara ago. During the 3 1/2 years, was not permitted to either train or fight due to injuries for just on a year Also during this time he has had 8 fights in which he has won 3-that is THREE-World Titles in 3 different weight classes. So he is a 4 div champ.
Even so, he was out of action again for about 8 months (after his Montiel fight) due to a dispute over his perceived inactivity and lack of big money fights although he had just had a $500,000 fight and was going to have another for $750,000. This was really trouble caused by his "wife" Rachel, who at 22 had decided that she wanted to manage his boxing career, and pursuaded him that he should leave Top Rank for Golden Balls. Becaue his contract still had about 15 months to run, he couldn't. So he missed out on ONE fight, his own fault. After an independent arbitratior ruled that he was still with Top Rank, he settled his difference with them and re-signed for another 3 years with a Top Rank option for a 4th year.
So he turned out to be pretty smart, after all.
