World Boxing Organization (WBO) Super Featherweight Champion, Adrien Broner, has the boxing world buzzing after his knockout win over Eloy Perez on HBO. But there was one fighter who wasn’t so impressed. “A lot of people think I beat Broner when we fought last year,” stated former world champion Daniel Ponce De Leon. “I fought him in his own weight division and he still couldn’t do anything to me.”
Broner and De Leon faced off on March fifth of 2011 with Broner getting a one point advantage on two of the judge’s scorecards. “You need to have punching power to make Broner respect you,” he added. “I’d like to face him again in the near future. Right now I’m focused on winning the featherweight title.”
De Leon is currently making his case for a fight against W.B.C. featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez. He’s coming off a sixth round knockout over Omar Estrella.
“Ponce De Leon Vs. Jhonny Gonzalez would be fight of the year material. There’s no doubt in my mind,” said De Leon’s manager Frank Espinoza Sr. “They have eighty knockouts between them. It’s the kind of match up that makes boxing fans out of every day sports fans. We’re looking to make it happen before the end of the year.”

It's a lot easier to look good against B or C class opposition instead of elite fighters. Since Ponce de Leon he has wins against Litzau, Martin Rodriguez and Perez. None of those guys are top notch boxers.
and neither is de leon. sure hes better than those guys, but seriously, hes not that much better. de leon is a high c level fighter himself.
Broner stops De Leon this time. People will say De Leon wasn't the same fighter. In reality is that Broner has gotten slightly better than when they fought, De Leon stayed the same. A 21 year old Broner is the only Broner Ponce had a chance of beating, and he didn't beat him, it a close fight but he didn't win.
now point to me where i said it had anything to do with perez? if ur gonna come, come at me rite. i said he grew. it has nothing to do with his opponents. hes a better fighter, its more than clear. he lets his hands god much more than before, his sharpness has improved and he has learned how to control distance and timing a lot better, i mean seriously all u have to do is watch his fights and u will see the improvements.

PDL won the 1st fight IMO.
But this time around Broner beats him. The reason being, I don't think many people have talked about it but it hasn't been until his last two or three fights that Broner has committed to the shoulder roll defense. He used to have a typical "gloves covering my face" boxer defense, now that he seems more comfortable and is perfecting the shoulder roll defense he's using it almost exclusively during the whole fight.
De Leon lost. It was a good close fight. Move on to something else.
Yeah, too bad the young american always get the decision.
Remember Berto vs Collazo
Floyd vs Castillo
Alexander vs Kotelnik, Mathysse
Dawson vs the road warrior 1
And I'm being generous cuz some of those fights aren't close.
But who has he fought since then? You guys are confusing wishful thinking with accurate predictions.
So you're measuring his improvement by how well he did against Perez? That's your measuring stick? :lol1:
It's useless to try to talk to these dudes, they're already on the bandwagon. Broner is the next Floyd, "fresh, fly and flashy!". I'm expecting them to start a Broner mafia soon.

Yeah but belts ain't sh1t anymore. With so many of them a lot of these champions, aren't really champions. Broner may have a belt but he's still pretty green and still learning on the job. With that said he still is already good enough to handle everyone in his division with pretty much ease. It's the next step up where the real tests are.
Cool..... U must be a fan of Jcc Jr Canelo and Clev??? Futures of the sport....
His career has just started. He isn't going anywhere but the top.
If he was a prospect I could understand..... He has a belt now..... Time to play with the big boys.....
the problem knocks this guy out if they ever meet again. it was more of broner's inactivity, doing his best mayweather pot shot impersonations, than ponce's ring ability that made the fight look close. some people claim this dude has broner's number? :lol1:
SOrta like me and you. You will be returning to this thread but since I beat you in a close debate I'm on to another thread.
Respect!
ladies and gentlemen when one starts singing victory of a debate on the internet means they really lost the argument.
Make the guy the A side against a couple of ppl=GOAT
Credit for Perez though..... Want to see how high Broner can go.... When I see better comp I will be convinced.....
is that your way of trying to be clever :thumbsdow
how old are you
This isn't that difficult.
Broner is a young champ looking to become a big name in this sport. He needs to move toward opponents who help him get that. De Leon had a chance and did well. I thought he lost a close fight. No need for broner, who looks to big for 130 to rematch a guy going back to 126. They are going in 2 divergent directions.

i have no doubt that all the hate that broner gets is because he gets seen as the next floyd. i also have no doubt that all the nuthuggers he gets is because he gets seen as the next floyd. pathetic in all accounts.
Cause it was Broners very first big time fight and Ponce is a year older. Ponce gets beat down in the rematch.

fighters grow, they get better, they get smarter. broner has obviously grown since that fight. its obvious
So you're measuring his improvement by how well he did against Perez? That's your measuring stick? :lol1:
a lot of fighters have been more talents and have lost to the less talented fighters. i am not convince that he has improved as everyone else until he proves it against ponce.

the only one that is quick to anoint a fighter is you with broner can we agree? no one anointed gamboa in anything except that broner is not on his level right now. broner is not elite right now he is a guy on the come up. lets not talk about anointing and what will cost gamboa against elites when in the same post you trying to big up broner on his path to the top.
Broner is on the path to the top. He has skill and personality. I never said he was anyhting other than that.
I don't think he is on Gamboa's level offensively, few are.
Broner is on the come up but Ponce deleon is on the go back as in go back to 126 and win again.
What makes you say that? Because Broner got some hype around him again that means he got better? The fight with De Leon could have gone either way, how do you go from that to a KO victory?
this reminds me of the silly pactards who created a big myth that pacquiao had improved so much after marquez cuz he dominated a couple bigger top fighters. but when he fought the smaller fighter who gave him trouble again in a division he wasnt rank in. it showed that all the improved pacquiao supposedly gained wasnt true at all. all im saying is if you really improved if yu really so much better prove it by giving the guy who gave you your toughest fight a rematch.
I dont doubt you and other think Ponce won. I think Broner just didn't beat him as bad as expected. Either way, I don't care to see Broner fight Ponce again. Broner needs to clean out the division this year then go to 135. Broner is on a path to the top, should he stumble then there is always the rematch.
And FYI, Gamboa keeps his hands down way too much. DOn't be so quick to annoint him. He is a great offensive fighter we agree. His defense is suspect and will cost him when he figts elite guys.

ponce isnt gonna beat broner. he arguably did last time but broners improved much since then. theres no way ponce wins that fight. he'll proly get knocked out. too small, too limited. last time, he caught broner at the exact rite time and even then, it was clear who was the more talented fighter.
