Evidently Maidana is 2-1 in the amateurs against Matthysse. I just feel though that Matthysse is superior technically, has much better defense, better hand speed and overall I think he hits just as hard as Maidana. In common opponents, Matthysse dropped Corley 9 times en route to a 8th round TKO. Whereas Maidana had big problems vs Corley, and went the full 12 round distance with him.
Against Alexander, Matthysse gave him a helluva fight and some felt he won a close decision. Maidana was dominated last night by Alexander. I just feel Matthysse is superior overall. I'd take him over Maidana if they fought also. I guarantee he stops Humberto Soto within a few rounds in their upcoming bout. Just my two cents.
maidana is clearly the better more accomplished fighter..maidana peak prime was his run w robert garcia as his trainer..really improved maidana..mattysee was great but mentally not as tough and that was the difference..maidana beat floyd mayweather
Like I said I've felt that Lucas was the superior fighter since way back when he fought Judah and Harris. This isn't me saying this because of Maidana's performance last night. I just figured It'd be more appropriate to bring this topic up considering Maidana's fresh in everyone's minds since he just fought last night, that is all.
damn maidana has one bad performance in a weight that he is not used to and everyone turns on him. people on this site are so full of sh!t...
Huh? He looked shitty against Corley and a shot Morales.

He has never been good. He just a fan friendly fighter.
Technically Matthysse is an all around better fighter, that I've always known. What Maidana has that's better than Matthysse is that Maidana doesn't take rounds off, gets it moving whenever he gets the chance to, sort of why Judah and Alexander managed to win so many rounds against Matthysse. Off topic but Soto will beat Matthysse, watch.
he definitely has more "dimensions" but they aren't too far apart in terms of skill. Matthyse is tricky in that same way that Ponce is, and prime Marquez was a better version of it that looked different, but they had that awkward rhythm. Matthyse has a nice right hand, Maidana has a more sloppy, pendulum kind of right hand.
to be clear though, I like Maidana and I don't think he's some kind of bum. give him the right style math, he knocks most cats out. maybe welter is right for him, who knows
I dont know if that last night was at 140 for me it would have been much closer Dev probably woulda still won but i think Maidana was way the worse for wear going up to 147.I remember watching Lucas fight Vivian Harris a couple years back and while he won that fight (extremely lucky stoppage) his eye was shutting fast and Harris was still doing alright so he coulda been in alotta trouble had the ref let it go on.I dont know who is better but i do think Lucas shades it in punching power and expect him to stop Soto late on
Yes I have thought that too, he is a faster better skilled version and isn't just using ineffective aggression like Maidana.Agreed Spray. Lucas picks his shots well, he also does very accurate concise work to the body. Maidana is more of a one-punch brawler type of boxer, whereas Lucas is more of a pressure fighter that picks his punches and breaks you down over the course of the fight.
