... does anybody get the sense that this might be a mismatch? Gamboa seems to have all the intangibles. Normally weight plays a big factor, but in this case I feel Gamboa can still be just as dangerous if not more @ 130 -135.
Rios needs to come in healthy and fit at weigh in...
Bam Bam Reminds me of a Mini Me Margarito.
Bam Bam Reminds me of a Mini Me Margarito. That being said all chin, good aggression, good power, no defense. Aka... A walking heavy bag lol Gamboa has too much skill for this cat to overcome. I believe gamboa circles around Rios like Cotto did against Margarito its an easy night out for the cuban star.
As the fightets closer I'm surprised at fans for thinking gamboa walks im. Rios is not some shot old fighter halfdead. IMO he's the best fighter at 135. Gamboa's tated canvas from featherfisted fighters. Rios is bigger, has world class stamina, workrate & genuine power. I don't see Gamboa dancing away for 12 rounds. He gets caught & goes to bed. I wish I could be ringside. I'd have a blanket just waiting to toss to him.
Ive seen Gamboa taste canvas but that was mainl from his wildness and not having his feet in the proper place. If your feet arent where they are supposed to be you can end up knocking yourself down from a punch you throw and miss.
On another note...Vamos Rios!
I am a fan of both fightersso it makes it more difficult for me to choose but I gotta go with my raza on this one.
It will be Pacquiao vs Margarito 2.0
I like Rios...but he does not move his head AT ALL and he is EXTREMELY SLOW, I see Gamboa landing quick combos and moving all night...with Garcia eventually throwing in the Towel or the Ref Stopping It because of bad Swelling
it is not just about the SPEED, Gamboa has Good OVERALL BOXING SKILLS and he is going to be hard for Rios to walk down because Gamboa has very good footwork and he can fight going backwards and he can come from so many angles, he doesn't need to plant his feet to strike with his Power
amen brother
You are right on about it. I just don't see Rios having the speed to keep up with Gamboa. If he times Gamboa well and can find him when Yuri is jumping in and out, he can definitely drop Gamboa and hurt him. But, for the majority of the fight, I see Gamboa sticking and moving, effectively out boxing Rios will ease.
Gamboa by a fairly wide UD, 116-112/117-111 or so.
Gamboa all the way, and I am a Rios fan as well.
Rios has to be right up on you to be effective. Gamboa will hit and move away....if Rios gets in close enough to tag Gamboa, he is just going to piss him off. Yuri will be swinging twice as fast as Rios and his reflexes are far superior, Rios will be a punching bag with his sloppy defense. Not saying that Rios won't have his moments but on the whole, Gamboa is going to put on a clinic. If nothing else, Rios' mindset and mentality will lose him the fight.
This guy is probably laughing at the idea of Gamboa having any shot because of the size.
He is already talking about Gamboa "checking" his chin...he thinks it will be a cake walk. Dude is going to come in flabby and drained and get is head used as a speed bag by an athletic phenom.
No matter what, my boy Rios is going to keep coming just like in that Acosta fight. Acosta, a better fighter than he is given credit for, was moving well and landing some monstrous shots early on even seriously hurting Rios at one point (4th or 5th?). Long story short we know how that ended. Acosta crumbled to the canvas wondering what day it was. If I remember correctly it was a large ring in that fight which brings up the question of the ring size for this fight?
Even so, I think the higher weight is going to serve Gamboa well. He'll be able to bring his power up while maintaining his speed. I dont see Rios making weight being a problem now that hes working with a nutritionist so both guys will be bringing their A game! Gamboa might get buzzed here and there and maybe even get dropped by a well placed Brandon punch. But unlike Acosta, i see Gamboa's movement, conditioning and athleticism keeping him from standing there long enough or often enough to allow Brandon to put multiple punches together. That's where Brandon will beat you. Ive got Gamboa surviving this fight ... barely
I'm not getting the impression that Gamboa is "favored by landslide," although I am somewhat surprised with the support he's getting. I thought there was a poll for this fight. There is none. Somebody ought to start one.
there is like 2 already
Rios' only chance is if he lands a counter when Gamboa jumps in. That is really the only punch that ever works on Gamboa.
If you go toe to toe, Gamboa knocks you out. If you try to smother him, he pot shots you and dodges. If you bring it to the center of the ring, you get a boxing lesson. The only thing that works ever is the timed counter. If Gamboa avoids that, it will be one sided.
Rios can't outbox him and that pressure stuff won't work on Gamboa. He'll never find him. Plus, Rios is there to be hit. I like Rios, but this is the wrong opponent.

lmao at this gamboa hater who has been at it for years
um rios had a draw with this guy who just fought on fnf
............
gmboa tko 3
yeah but that was like 5 years ago bro c'mon :thumbsdow
Rios has improved at an astronomical rate, and I for one think his defense is vastly underrated. He has such a strong guard, and blocks most punches quite well. With a fast fighter like Gamboa tho, I'm sure Rios is gonna be eatin a lot of leather but then thats where his granite chin comes in.
People say that Rios has never seen anybody like Gamboa before (True) but on the flip side, Gamboa has never seen anhybody like Rios before either. It's gonna be a helluva fight regardless, if Rios comes in the way he looked against John Murray than yeah, Gamboa may very well KO Rios. Otherwise, I am quite confident Rios not only beats Gamboa but HURTS Gamboa :boxing:
This is Gamboa's coming out party...
Rios is going to have his moments in the middle rounds, but I think Gamboa's going to smash Rios' face, frustrate him, and possibly stop him late.
didnt know hew was gay!
Rios will stop hi by the 8th.

This is so true. Most have this split down the middle.

No one said Rios was. You can definitely make an argument for Gamboa fighting 'featherfisted' fighters yet Rios hasn't exactly beaten 'world beaters'.
There's no question Rios has all of the qualities you mention. However, let's admit, the man loves to eat red leather.
I see Gamboa not just 'dancing away' but picking apart Rios and eliminating any doubts on whether El Cilcon de Guantanamo is ready for 135+
