Abner mentioned to me today that he would like to fight Jorge Arce in the near future. I think that would be a great fight! We will try and make that fight.
Abner started his first day of sparring today and looked good. He will move his Camp to Mexico in about a week. He fights on April 21st.

This or Mares-Donaire Or VS Rigo! would be pretty frikking awesome fight and if confident hell win he only gets prestige of beating either of those guys. But Every single fighter worth mentioning like Mares sings the same tune when their asked about a fight with Rigo wonder how hes supposed to get a bigger name if everyone worth while is too chicken **** to fight him, thats how you know they don't think they can beat him. But a guy can dream still 2012 looking good so far so who knows.
so in other words it's okay when it's Mares wanting an Arce because he's Mexican? What are you slow or something tell thats not a better match up then Arce vs the Flash think Mcfly think.
We all want to see an all out Mexican war between Arce vs Mares. Which can be an instant classic fight.
so in other words it's okay when it's Mares wanting an Arce because he's Mexican?
We will realistically try by the end of the year or early 2013.
Look at my threads I've started. I'm a huge Mares believer. Been trying to bring more attention to this cat. Completely under-looked. His resume is ridiculous. He can fight whoever he wants right now, he's EARNED it. He IS P4P. His resume indicates that without a doubt. Anyway, best of luck to you guys!
First donaire, is a bit more advance in his career than Mares. Mares needs more a name like Arce than Nonito does.
but considering recent fights is he really all that much more advanced? Mares has gone through a who's who of bantams while Donaire has been criticized for his recent fights
The problem is not much Donaire fighting Arce, is that he aint fighting Nishioka nor Rigodeaux. He is fighting Terrazas(SMH) and then Arce.
2 fights, specially Terrazas that means nothing!!
but fighting Morel isn't much either which is the fight people are saying Mares is going through in April
and Donaire has made his intentions known that he would like to fight Nishioka and we've been through the whole Rigo debate
If Golden Boy fighter Abner Mares can get a fight with a Top Rank fighter like Arce then he should try to get a fight with Donaire too. Darchinyan, Yohnny, Agbeko and Donaire on his resume would be very impressive.
His resume already is impressive.
But I do want Mares vs Donaire. Let's get it!
so you believe in mythical lists rather than resumes?
if we were to make a case one could say that Mares has faced better opposition than Donaire at 118 could we not?
Perez, Darchinyan, Agbeko 2xs should be better than Sydrenko, Montiel and Narvaez right?
or are you admitting Donaire is better than Mares?
for the record I think both guys calling our Arce are great moves by them and their teams. He is arguably the biggest name below 126 and brings a nice name to the resume should either win
but for people to applaud Mares for wanting an Arce fight by those who crapped all over Donaire is IMO hypocritcal by some of youWe all want to see an all out Mexican war between Arce vs Mares. Which can be an instant classic fight.
the outrage went back to him wanting Arce and not Rigondeaux at the moment
Yea, I am not big on such boxing fan outrage, to me it would be hard to enjoy the sport outraged all the time which literally you would have to be if you are consistant.
It is not that the sport isn't upsetting at times, but really I focus on what happens, will happen or can happen as opposed to pining about things that aren't meant to be especially when they could still go down just a bit down the road.
he also had a ruptured appendix that kept him out for months as well
I know Mares I know his career and I know his team very well
Frankie- this isn't about you guys I actually applaud the move I think he and Travieso would be great
just calling out those who said it was weak for Nonito to do the same
First donaire, is a bit more advance in his career than Mares. Mares needs more a name like Arce than Nonito does.
Second, Nonito is clearly not fighting the 2 best fighters in his division, Mares besides Moreno he fought all the ones he could in his weight class.
The problem is not much Donaire fighting Arce, is that he aint fighting Nishioka nor Rigodeaux. He is fighting Terrazas(SMH) and then Arce.
2 fights, specially Terrazas that means nothing!!
i hope i can still listen to ur show:sad2:
I just like to debate bro dont trip at all you my homie
Ive gotten into heated debates with very close friends and then have a beer with them a few moments later
Abner Mares needs to build his name and continue growing and a win over Jorge Arce I think would propel Mares to the next level. Mares needs some time on HBO like Donaire, then set up an eventual meeting between the two. It's logical since Donaire shows no signs of wanting a fight with Gamboa or Juanma anyway... and Rigo?? c'mon he's talented and all but he hasn't really established himself yet the way Abner and Nonito are doing right now...
what does this have to do with the conversation at hand?
why is it okay for Mares to want an Arce fight but not Nonito especially if YOU think Nonito has cherry picked (which is what you state)
by that if you think Nonito is cherry picking then surely an Arce fight would be a cherry pick too? I mean people on here groaned when he made mention of it.
but yet in this thread Mares is being applauded for asking for the same opponent, with a harder more recent resume to boot
i hope i can still listen to ur show:sad2:
To me Mares is way behind Donaire just in terms of where they are at in their careers.
Donaire has made a name for himself beating well known guys, I don't know why people would have an issue with him fighting Arce though because he just fought the guy Arce beat~ so even if I find the outcome predictable it is still legitimate.
Mares is just beginning to build his name, so he needs a win against a guy like Arce much more than Donaire at this point.
the outrage went back to him wanting Arce and not Rigondeaux at the moment
dont forget mares had a eye injury that almost ended his career.
he also had a ruptured appendix that kept him out for months as well
I know Mares I know his career and I know his team very well

What was that mid 08 through mid 09?
It is fun to talk about who is better and who might win, but they are obviously in very different places in their careers.
Donaire started out in 01 and Mares started out in 05. Donaire has had many long layoffs but a 4 year head start is still a long time
mares been wanting nonito for awhile.Next time u see nonito tell him
mares been calling him out.Mares should be rated higher in p4p
but nonito hes a cherry picker lately.
