Cotto vs Mayweather will sell it self but having Canelo vs Mosley will help it sell even more. Plus it's on Cinco De Mayo. Which will have everybody talking about these two fights all day till 6:00 p.m you never know.
even a fight against a prime undefeated cotto wouldn't touch the hoya fight. i guess that's why floyd avoided cotto for so long. probably thought i'll wait till cotto is faded then fight him and make about the same amount of money anyway without risking a loss. genius at work.
and many many many many people said Floyd was going to get his ass whooped (reason that MANY people bought it). Of course we all know the story after the fact. Floyd fought a 187 year old De La Hoya.
Who quit jabbing of his own free will, that had nothing to do with Floyd taking it away~
The Hype for DLH vs. Floyd was huge. The fight was announce in Nov/Dec 06 for a May fight. They Hype slowly built up over time.
It was the first 24/7 series. which captured a lot of peoples imaginations.
Oscar De La Hoya was a massive Draw.
It was the first time a lot of non boxing fans were introduced to Floyd, he played the bad guy a lot of people wanted to see him get beaten.

why are people allowed to make so dumb threads
NO WAY IN HELL
if Pac Bradley was on the undercard then yes
omg imagine pac and may co headlining a single ppv omgI don't think it will out sell it's just a conversation me and one of my Puerto Rican friend had. So about dumb threads I just wanted to know how many people would say it would out sell Mayweather vs DLH. And one more thing you don't have to view my thread or vote on my s**t. I guess I have to checkmate the lame so please hater stay in your lane.
No fight will outdo DLH vs Floyd, not even Floyd/Manny at this point. I think eventually some matchup will come along and surpass those numbers. When Bob Arum and Don King are out of the way and top guys start fighting one another that will help too.
No, De La Hoya/Mayweather, although Floyd was the favorite, still sounded competitive... I'm pretty sure most people are in agreement that Cotto is going to get demolished... So its really more of a case of:
- How much u hate Floyd, that u wanna believe Cotto will win even though ur wrong
- How much u love Floyd that u wanna watch him fight anyone anytime
- How Puerto Rican u r
- How pure of a boxing fan u r
Most poeple won't fall victim to the first trap, the second trap guarantees the fight hits a million. The third trap guarantees it goes over a million... But the fourth trap? Its debatable
Who the hell buys a pay per view.
Really, how many of you here, buys the ppv's.?
Floyd/Oscar will never be beat, you almost have to have a computer and internet service to even be a boxing fan anymore, and if you have those you have access to the fights.
I don't really think it has that kind of broad appeal to do that well, it will do great certainly but that great it really asking a lot, 1.5+ but getting even close to 2 would be astoundingly good.
People are making wierd comparison though to that fight comparing Floyd to Floyd directly, when Cotto really would be playing Floyd's role from the Oscar fight. The question is Floyd bigger than Oscar, when that fight took place and is Cotto bigger than Floyd when that took place, I would figure most would say no to the first question and yes but fairly close on the second part.
The Oscar from the Floyd fight was not peak drawing Oscar, his performance in the build-up is not what I would call enthralling in any way, he already alienated a ton of people with the Tito fight bullshit and was inactive although he was coming off an impressive looking win. Floyd could be equal to Oscar at that point in terms of selling appeal but that is the kind of thing that needs proven out.
If Canelo vs Mosley could do more than 300k PPV's, it would be it's own card. It's all about Floyd and then Cotto. Floyd is going to bring 1 - 1.3 million. If Cotto can bring 500K this will sell excellently. Personally i think it's going to do north of 1.5m.
It's not about just The numbers Canelo and Mosley would do on there own it's the fact that there on the card, plus it's Cinco De Mayo, and another big name in Cotto.
Mayweather doesn't do big numbers by himself, he needs another big name and all those factors together help the sales.
I'll watch but will not buy, like much of the people I work with. I have quite a few big boxing fans that I work with that will not buy this fight due to the fact Cotto is past his best! This fight is not worth $60.
Pacquiao's highest PPV record is like 1.9, because of DLH. Floyd's highest record PPV record is 2.5 because of DLH.
I say Mayweather-Cotto does like 1.5M PPV buys, and that's because the Mexican ginger is in the card.
i doubt it will, but its gonna do great numbers mayweather did 1.25 with a barely known ortiz, cotto has a strong following and coming off a very solid margarito fight, also you have mosely and canelo who have extremely loyal fans. i also believe winky wright is fighting, he did some solid numbers in his day. the card will bring the numbers up, and also the price of the ppv lol 75bucks for hd
