I love Paul Williams. He is a great fighter and he gives his all in the ring every time. However the concept that his offense is his defense is crazy to me. I think they are wasting his talent. The guy has the potential to be an elite fighter.
Manny could give him the tools he needs. A stiff jab, a better stands, and basically the art of becoming a boxer puncher. Why is he wasting so much energy and taking so many hits? Shouldnt they be trying to help him improve instead of making him a punching bag?
I Used To Think That He Needed Steward But Truthfully It Is Too Late. He Did Try To Focus Tonight On Keeping His Guard Up At Times But As He Said Once He Gets In There It Goes Out The Window...It Would Take A Few Fights To See Any Results If That Was What His Team Wanted...Which It Doesnt. His Trainer Isnt Worried About It At All...After Paul Was Exposed The Last Two Fights He Repeatedly Said There Wasn't Anything To Fix Defensively Which Was Hard To Hear...I've Always Liked Williams But 40 Fights In It Would Be Hard To Fix All Of His Defensive Problems But I Mostly Blame His Loyalty To His Trainer Even Tho He Hasn't Exactly Lost To Journeymen...Lara Is Good...And Sergio Is Sergio...It's Unfair For People To Talk About Williams As If He Was Losing To Hatton And Cotto Brothers And Relatives...
ok well something has to be done. the guy has so much talent. The only thing i disagree with is that its too late for him to change. I think he has to if he is going to stay relevant.
So frustrating to watch Williams sit there twiddling his thumbs for 30 seconds at the end of each round waiting for old man Peterson to get into the ring and give instruction. That alone should warrant a new trainer.
fighting insincts are paul williams' forte...dude is comfortable in a war and most cant keep up with his pace.....his style is fine...if anything, trying to get him to do different stuff might hinder him...librado andrade is 6'2'' and i don't see anyone calling for him to become an outboxer....and thats because if he tried to do it, he'd suck at it....
It's way too late at this point. Manny loves his tall fighters to fight tall and there's no way you can make Williams do that at this point. And plus, Manny is too old to really push his fighters I think. Even Miguel Cotto ditched him for another trainer.
