really? p4p #3? gtfo with that shlt. did you guys forget what paul williams did to him? what about Kermit Cintron? Even Margarito whooped his ass. LOL he beat Pavlik who already got exposed by BHOP and he beat P.Williams who was outboxed by Cintron and Quintana. We all saw what Lara did to him as well. Come on Man Martinez hasn't beat anyone that is noteworthy how the **** is he p4p #3 on everyone's list????
I just don't see it.
Noticed that mods seem to be biased towards Sergio.
You can accuse Cotto and Lampley of being gay(a "cotto is gay" tread had been active for over a year) , but you can't point out that Sergio is even more likely to be that than either of those guys.
It got me banned
Who cares about being g@y! Does any boxer being g@y take away from what they have accomplished in the ring?

neither was pac beating an unranked margarito and not defending it afterwards.
Right, there's hardly even any pactards that claim him as a legit JMW champ
He never won a belt at WW, hometown or not. At JMW, he won an interim one against Bunema, defended once against Cintron, got promoted to full champ and moved up. Not one defense.
I know that he was being ducked at 154 (maybe including the WBC full champ Forrest), and moved up partly for that reason, but facts are, he wasn't really a legit champ at 154.

My over all intent of my original post was that Sergio was a career JMW as he fought more fights at JMW and was more of a "champ" at JMW than WW.
He was a career JMW who started out as a WW and is now the MW Champion. That is impressive and unlike the thread topic, I do not believe he is over rated.
Correct me if i'm wrong.
But out of 52 fights, 12 where below 147. The rest where above 147. He was a legit JMW/LMW Champion that has moved up to become the MW Champion. He hasn't been to WW for over a decade now.
I see what your saying though by pointing out that Sergio started out lower than 154 and actually fought under the WW limit at one point. I was just stating that he became a legit Champ at JMW where he was a hometown champ at WW.

Martinez COULD be number 3, but it's a distant third and for anyone else for that matter. It's the same situation in terms of drawing power you have Pac/May and in third place is Cotto but it's a distant third. Martinez is overrated if you ask me, he had two good wins but Williams was also extrememly overrated at #3 when they fought. I said he was a KO waiting to happen and while it I was expecting it to happen I wasn't expecting it in such brutal fashion. Pavlik was an alcholic when they fought and while we didn't know it at the time it's something that has to be taken to account. As well as the fact that Pavlik in the middle rounds was taking control of that fight, then he got busted open.
As for size... Sergio says he is a small MW, but to me he is coming in much bigger than 160 on fight night. Sergio is WAY more shredded than Cotto and he has 3-4 inches on him and Cotto comes in at 155-160 max. No way Sergio is at 165, he is at 170-175. He's not much smaller than someone at 168 he's just shorter than them, but he has no chance against Ward, not the way Pavlik figured him out to an extent anyway. But even if he what he says is true that he is small for MW then 154 would be a target weight. Well... he's moved up 1 or 2 divisions Manny and Floyd 7 or 8 and you are asking them to move up where they each only had 1 fight!? The guy is delusional now, he is fine making 1-2 million a fight without risking too much. That's fine with me where can I sign up? But coming out saying he wants to fight the best... make a catchweight with Ward/Froch/Bute someone if he were to win, THEN he'd be a lone #3 P4P in my book. If he were to get more wins at SMW then he could be #1. He won't do it though so, oh well.
He has about the same amount of fights at 147 that he does at 154.

Most people here do not know that Martinez is a career JMW who is shorter than De La Hoya and Margarito.
He already moved up from JMW to MW and is THE Champ there. He's not getting any younger and is looking to get paid. Nobody above JMW is going to give him that retirement pay check he's looking for.

The way Martinez destroyed Williams, made Pavlik a bloody mess, and blasted through Dzinzuruk, gets him a spot in the top 5 at least.
The top 3 fighters for me, are Mayweather, Ward, and either of Marquez or Martinez.
I have Ward higher than all 3. But no I do not think Martinez fights him. I don't think he ventures above 160 period.

Martinez is THE MW Champ, Floyd and or Pac must have said they wanted to fight this guy...
"Fans" already trying to discredit him in case either one fight him...
An argument could certainly be made for Andre Ward being a Top 5 P4p fighter. Do u think Sergio has any interest in fighting him?

Still doesn't change the fact that there are currently 3 concenous top 5 pfp fighters that have all held titles at 154 & there is only one of them willing to fight the other 2. I think there are fighters at 160, or even 154 given half the chance that can beat Martinez, but he isn't the only overrated top pfp fighter out there.

It changes what that fact implies.
There is a difference between being champ at 154lb and campaigning in the division. Roy Jones Jr was the heavyweight champ but if he was in his prime now would people expect him to fight the lacks of Wlad and Vitali? Would people match him against past heavyweight greats such as Ali, Tyson, and Foreman? No, because he is not a heavyweight.
Mayweather and Pacquiao are not Jr Middleweights they are Welterweights who have dipped their toes in the division for the right price and opponent. This applies to Pacquiao more so than Mayweather, Mayweather was able to beat a legitimate opponent in the weight division so at the least you can argue that he would be competitive against the best the division has to offer.
Do you honestly believe Pacquiao would be competitive against someone like Winky Wright? He put a one sided beating on Margarito ( who at that point in time was a glorified journey man) and still came out war torn. Sergio Martinez himself admitted that because of Pacquiao's size he would not fight him and people claimed he was honorable for not picking a fight with the smaller man. How times have changed.

If Sergio wants money, if Sergio wants money climb a division. Because many years have passed people forget that Mayweather and Pacquiao did just that when they were making a name for themselves. It just goes to show how ungrateful boxing fans are and how the ''What have you done for me lately'' caters towards the disease running rampant in the sport. What incentive is their for younger fighters to jump in the deep end of the pool when they know that at age 30, ages 22-29 will be forgotten providing they knock out the right opponent.

I have never said any of the above. I can choose a lot that have a great chance of beating Floyd at 140-154 in the last 15 years, Martinez included.
I never said You said it. My point is that everyone gets overrated. But some preffer to dish out passes & make crazy claims. Hell right now I have a new found belief that Chavez due to his size might just give Martinez the business.
However there are 3 top 5 pfp fighters still capable of fighting at or around 154 & there is only 1 of them willing to do it & thats Martinez.
I'm actually tired of his whinning myself. However he himself was cherrypicked by the lineal middleweight champ when he beat Pavliks a$$.
But on a serious note, Pacman, Floyd & Martinez average top 3 pfp on many lists. All have been champ at 154. Yet they have never fought each other. Out of all 3, there is only one that we all can agree, would fight the other 2, right or wrong??

He was the only person free pretty much.
I have no problems with the fight. I just feel that calling 1 pfp fighter overrated but having someone else say that in the last 15 years no one could beat Floyd between 140-154 is far more overrating.
Furthermore Pacman hasn't beaten an impressive fighter since Clottey. (Which I believe was his greatest welterweight win). He's held his spot far too long by beating guys like Margarito & Mosley & arguably losing to Marquez.
