Jones with 8 fights, was very similar to Rigondeaux, experience-wise. He had 8 fights but can beat the hell out of any veteran or prime fighter. He was head and shoulders above everyone else even as an "untested" version of him.
Lol, I kind of exaggerate with prime Roy, but most of what I say would probably end up being true if it had happened.
cant exaggerate prime Roy..... as a nmatter of fact words dont do it justice
even looking back at old footage I dont understand how he even physically was able to do the things he did.... it almost feels like he's cheating !! lol
His final resume lets him down a bit so maybe not GOAT but certainly ATG and my pick in ANY fantasy match from 154 - 168... if the weight category has the word "middleweight" in it then prime Roy OWNS it.
Hopkins and Toney are just those fights i'm glad happened.
There are so many fighters that Roy has on his resume, that if he hadn't fought them people would say they could've given Roy a hard time.
That guy JC, the Mexican I think, or whatever. Roy beat him undefeated, but he's not a guy people mention as a good win for Roy. Yet after losing to Roy, this guy took Dariusz's 0. He also beat Glen Johnson. But do you ever see anybody mentioning him as a good win for Roy? It's pretty unfair if you ask me.

Or when they mention the SMW's he didn't face... they say he didn't face Mclellan, Eubank, Liles...
I always say... If he fought and beat Mclellan, Eubank, and Liles... but never fought Toney and then left the division which would be worse?
The fact of the matter is, he beat the best MW, who went undefeated for the next 12 years, moved up and beat the best SMW in the division. Regardless if there were more fights for him at that weight, at minimum, he beat the best fighter there.
Though most people point to Roys decorated amateur experience compared to Nards, as Roy not being quite as green as Nard.
And it's a fair game argument.
Obviously Bernard did in fact improve his ability after the Roy fight.. then again, So did Roy.

While we're here, I just wanna point out that I like how people call Hopkins green in the first fight, but Hopkins had a nice little winning streak going of almost 20 fights before losing to Roy, and then after losing to Roy he coincidentally kept winning, only for over a decade. Meaning if Hopkins had never faced the monster that was Roy Jones Jr, Hopkins would have had a winning streak of 15 years, from 1990 to 2005, and people woulda been say "Oh, Hopkins would have beaten Roy in the mid 90s if they had fought".
60% of the time, I point this out... every time.

OSDH & Mosley yes... Forrest is a tough one. Wright & Floyd @ 154 Yes. Pac Cotto and Margarito would be one sided as ever.
You forgot Martinez, he is a copycat of Jones Jr, minus the elusiveness. Martinez gets hit quite often, and gets marked up too. Roy would fight like that, but not get hit. Roy's style can not be duplicated. You can try it all you want, but you won't do it like him. Not even Roy himself can duplicate his own prime style anymore.
I think the versions of Toney and Hopkins Roy dominated and outboxed, showed me he woulda have no prob with Forrest.
Jones would have made Forrest look foolish. He got outboxed by Ike for god's sake lol.
I try to hold back when talking about Roy :lol1:
Kevs doing all the real talking for the both of us.

When Roy was green at 154, that green version of him at 154 would beat prime versions of De La Hoya, Mosley, Trinidad, Forrest, Wright, Mayweather Jr, Martinez, Lara, Pacquiao, Cotto, Margarito.

I hate these threads :nonono:
If you're going to say greatest fighter ever, then you have to point at who he beat.. and while I do think he has a great, often underrated resume... it certainly isn't the best resume ever.
If you want to talk about fantasy p4p 1 on 1 matchups... then he is in the discussion without a doubt.. as Kev stated.
I think Roy Jones in his prime loses to nobody at all. Nobody in the history of the sport beats Roy Jones Jr in a 12 round boxing match.
Pound 4 pound, Robinson, Lamotta, Ali, Duran, Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Whitaker, Mayweather Jr, Hopkins(lol), Toney(lol).
Even the guys who beat him, Tarver, Johnson, Calzaghe, Lebedev, Green, they wouldn't beat a prime Jones. A past prime Jones eeked out a decision against Tarver.
*lol=He beat them already.
