all hype/hate aside, it's my honest belief that Williams would beat Cotto to a bloody pulp(much like Margs did) today, just like he would have 3 years ago. I just see williams outworking him and cotto back peddling too much. yay or nay?
The problem is this.
a 6'2" southpaw, throwing 100+ punches a round from every imaginable angle directly at/through Cottos defense.
Cotto doesnt have KO power like Martinez. If Cotto can't knock Williams out... Damage will start accruing heavily on Cottos face.
He breaks up EXTREMELY easily.
Arm punches or not... enough of them land, and Cottos face will be ruined.
preach!
As much as I respect cotto and admire his will and fearlessness, I don't know where people get the idea that cotto is this slick boxer. because of his win over mosley? is that it?
What has Cotto done to prove he can beat a pressure fighter? Cotto dont fight like Quintana at all and he aint a southpaw so that theory goes out of the window. Cotto stamina aint that good. And the size difference is huge. I love Cotto but you have to be blind to believe that Cotto can keep PWill off him.
I don't know man, I still favor Williams slightly based on styles but if Cotto can move like he did against Margarito the second time, Williams could have some trouble finding him. Though Williams is a little more fluid than Margarito.
Tough fight. Think Williams would probably outwork Miguel but it's closer now than it was a few years ago.
Ill give you that it's a bit closer... but really the style matchups that Williams has gone up against has made him look worse than he really is IMO.
Williams is MUCH more fluid than Margarito... hes quicker on his feet, much quicker.. faster hand speed, and his reach is equal to Wlads.

Unfortunately for Williams.. he was blessed with physical stats that could make him great... but with no fan base it's almost a plague.. like him targeting Chavez and Alvarez.. forget it.. what's there to gain by fighting Williams?
If Williams wants big fights he needs to get a belt and keep it and defend it, and eventually they will have to come to him.
Otherwise forget it.. all he is, is a risk.
For the record, Williams struggles with slick southpaws that counter punch well... Martinez, Quintana, Lara etc, Not orthodox, short boxers with mediocre defense.
Yeah I keep hearing this myth that Cotto is some amazing slick boxer which he isn't at all. Williams has struggled with 3 fighters, all of whom are slick counter-punching southpaws. Cotto is not going to magically start fighting like Lara when they get in the ring.
No, but he can switch to it I think if he's struggling to be effective
However, I think he'd be effective though from his orthodox position landing those left hooks

Very interesting fight. Williams size and pressure would cause Cotto many problems but his lack of defense and imo lack of overall skill would make him an easy target for Cotto. Close fight that Cotto wins by decision. I think there would be a split on who the fans think won because Williams would be the aggressor.
Did you expect anything different from him? Hahahaha
P Will now though is shot to death. I still think his size and work rate causes major problems for Cotto though.
Interesting fight and one that will never happen because its all risk and no reward for Cotto.
basically. I think williams beats jcc jr, cotto and would give ortiz a war out of hell! :firedevil

Just so we're clear.
Cotto will be fighting Williams as a southpaw.
That's what you're inferring?

He's done it before, not exclusively, but he's capable.

no offense but it's hard to take cotto fans seriously. you guys are just 1 echelon below the pactards.
so if cotto doesn't get much body shots in, he loses, yes?
I would say that yes, if he doesn't get on the inside that he'd lose to volume because Paul would throw unlimitless punches, whether they're effective or not and get him a points win. I just don't think he's all that effective with the punches that lands. Plus I think Cotto can land that left hook at will
So he'd fight as a southpaw?
He's done it before, not exclusively, but he's capable.
And besides, Paul fights in a manner where the left hook will hit him regardless of what position they're coming from.
I base my decision on the fact that yeah, Paul throws alot of punches, but they're arm punches at best, mixed in with a few good shots here and there. I just think Cotto would use his leverage to get in the inside and make him ineffective, like Quintana did.

Cotto would bang Pwill to body so easily. IMO Cotto boxes circles around Pwill I'm sure Pwill lands alot of punches but nothing of consequence. Cotto craft is so far superior to Pwill and I believe it would show very clear if they fought
