With exactly a month until the official weigh in, juanma is at 143 meaning he still has about 19 pounds to lose. Thoughts?
The PR boxing commission requires him to be at or below 144.9 30 days before the fight. According to team Juanma, they are on track to make the weight comfortably. They wanted to come in a tad under the 30 day limit, which they did.
He looks like a powerhouse now,but back in the De leon days he was ripped and lean.It should be his last fight @126.Its not like he had a choice after dropping the ball.
Isn't this what people were saying about Sexy Sergio, before he posterized Williams.
Exactly!
And they are not talking about Martinez moving up to Super Middleweight.
Boxing needs to go back to same day weigh ins. Boxers keep draining themselves too much and its hurting the sport.
Completely agree. Look at Chavez he should be fighting as a light heavyweight and yet he's sticking at 160 for the weight rehydration advantage. It's a complete joke.
Juanma has everything on his side AGAIN for this fight. I'm going to pull for my gallo Salido but Juanma should be the favorite. I do wish the rematch was in the states or Mexico. But I understand the financial side of doing it in PR.
Good luck to both fighters.
I thought the whole point of these weigh ins was to make sure the fighter was within 10% of his target weight within 30 days.
JuanMa should be no higher than about 138.6 if I understand correctly.
He has to lose 18 pounds in about 30 days, thats like 12.5% of his total body weight. That is a lot especially he doesn't look fatty and looks in considerably good shape.
I hope he can lose the weight and do so without putting himself at risk. If not, Salido will KO him sooner. Draining himself will also affect his ability to withstand punches.
He needs to re-evaluate his career, if he moves up with his Prima Donna attitude, he will be sent into retirement soon.
He can lose ten pounds of fat in one month. Perhaps a small amount will be lean body mass (muscle). The last eight pounds, or so, will be water. My only question is, how realistic is that kind of drop in water? It sounds doable to me.
But he wont
There is no benefit to losing 10 pounds of fat when it can be all water weight.
Juanma after the weigh in will hydrate back up to about 140 pounds. Meaning he will lose about 3 pounds and then the rest will be water
think, young blood
broner is promoted by GBP
and top rank isnt going to give juanma up to him without controlling him on the other end.
broner would beat the brakes off of juanma anyway
i'm talking about it being a good fight without considering promoters' disputes or whatever. and no, i don't think broner will easily beat juanma.
He's not losing 10 pounds of bodyfat.
Almost all of it will be water

juanma-broner at 130 will be good.

I'm unfamiliar with how boxers typically get down to fighting weight, but JuanMa can easily (and safely) lose ten pounds of body-fat in one month. He can drop the last eight pounds (143.9-10=133.9-8=125.9) when he "drains down" (dehydrates) for the weigh-in. Anyone know how common that kind of drop in water weight is?
