In Nonito Donaire's facebook he posts:
Nonito Donaire Jr.
Negative Xray. No fractures or broken bones. Blood result of skin tear and vein popped that caused swelling as well. MRI results 2mrw to chk muscles, ligaments, n soft tissue. Approx downtime 3weeks.
Good news. He needs to do a better job of getting his hands wrapped next time. He might want to even consider using different gloves.
Donaire did get hit a lot, but
When people say this fighter wanted to "get hit on purpose" makes me lol. No one in the pro game would even dream of doing that, especially when any punch has a chance to f@k you up. Damn retarded
Mayorga did :)
so did Nate Campbell,
I am not knocking Rigo.Just saying he has to do more.He can't bring his resume of 400 amateurish fights and expect to get the big breaks in the pros right away.It doesn't work that way.
go on i'll quote myself-
"rigo has ONLY fought against guys with winning records so far, including one interim world champion, one european champion (in dublin), and one full world titlist."
so even if you were to totally discount the fact that rigo had an amateur career at all HE IS DOING EXACTLY THE RIGHT THINGS AS A PRO in terms of his career.
as it happens- it took donaire til his 19th fight until he began an unbroken run of bouts that have been against only guys with winning records. his 18th was a against a guy* who was 5wins 9losses and went on to 5wins and 20losses. (*whose nickname was "clown" i have to add)
so maybe we should be asking did donaire deserve to get darchinyan, a (supposed) p4p guy in his 19th bout? based on your harsh criteria i'm pretty certain that he should not have at all.
exactly.
americanbot I'm not making excuses, just pointing out his eye was red/puffy early in the fight.
i'm sure the weight cutting and rehydrating over the years hasnt been helping his case
and all the weight he puts on between camps simply by virtue of his natural size (not saying he's an overeater or a partier or anything like that, but he is a serious weight cutter)
Vasquez didn't have 400 amateurish fights. That kid is a natural fighter.Must be in the blood being a son of a champion.I am not knocking Rigo.Just saying he has to do more.He can't bring his resume of 400 amateurish fights and expect to get the big breaks in the pros right away.It doesn't work that way.

I think there are times where a fighter will invite a single punch just to sort of see how much power their opponent has. They'll try to take the steam off of it a little to avoid full impact but for the most part, I agree. And in this case, Donaire was def getting tagged. I could see a couple times he wanted to roll with the punch to counter but his timing was bad.

I love Donaire, but if you're gonna act like RJJ without having RJJ speed or RJJ reflexes...your face gonna get ****ed up son.
AND not look too great doing it.
still, at least he didn't do such a bad impression as this young fool and his "prince naseem"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtJz05PuVO4
most of you will have seen it already but it bears a replay!
His face does swell and redden easy but you're right, he was a little more jacked up than usual. And ate a lot of punches. Not on purpose either lol. It wasn't a very impressive performance at all but Vasquez isn't a shabby fighter.

That's because Donaire didn't have 400 amateurish fights. He had i think 40 and 20 + as pro. Plus get this, 1 fight at 122 and he already became a world champion.Didn't take 400 amateurish fights and 9 fights as pro against bums to do it.
:bottle:
to say your username is "filo" you're not the sharpest tool in the box eh?
you're obviously rubbishing amateur experience, calling those bouts "amateurish", and yet you think that winning a world title after 9 pro bouts is less impressive than what donaire has done because rigondeaux has had more amateur bouts and fought "bums" in his first 9 pro bouts.
who did donaire fight in his first 9 pro bouts?
i have to admit i'll have to boxrec that one because- like anybody else- i've no idea what all times greats donaire was up against...
let's see- ooh, all but two had losing records (one debut in there too) and of those two he lost one on a UD.
rigo has ONLY fought against guys with winning records so far, including one interim world champion, one european champion, and one full world titlist. so who's been up against bums again?
so maybe those "amateurish" fights were worth having after all?
I'm gonna show you exactly what I'm responding to because somehow you have forgotten what you wrote?
"As for his eye it became puffy in round 2 from a few jabs. I think that has more to do with his skin or his conditioning with the extra weight maybe than anything else."
i responded in saying that it had nothing to do with his skin or conditioning........it was him keeping his hands low. I know it seems unbelievable but it's just that simple. all of that other crap is just excuses. you repeated "it was because of his skin or conditioning more then ANYTHING else" totally ignoring the fact that the guy fought with his hands down for the entire fight. his eye wasn't the only thing swollen....his face was swollen, his face was very bruised with red spots.....& his nose was swelled. his face was beat up.
i can't remember donaire ever looking like that.
vazquez, a c + fighter caught him with the same shots over & over again.........
His face does swell and redden easy but you're right, he was a little more jacked up than usual. And ate a lot of punches. Not on purpose either lol. It wasn't a very impressive performance at all but Vasquez isn't a shabby fighter.
I'm not saying necessarily it's his skin, I don't know what it is. If it's a single shot that caused it thats fine as well, the point is it was puffy early without much happening. It got worse as the fight went on but it's not like vazquez busted up his face. Donaire had a red/puffy eye early and naturally it got a bit worse after 12 rounds.
I said mostly jabs. That was mostly what he was landing. I recall a few good right hands but nothing major (watched the fight twice).
Donaire's face tends to look like that any time he gets tagged. But in this case...he ate a lot of jabs, some subtle jabs turned hooks and from the middle rounds going, right hands. He ate a lot of jabs though.
I have absolutely no idea of what you're talking about, but about his belt he got it just because it was vacant and Top Rank has a lot of influence over who gets the belts. WV2 was coming of a loss and actually losing the belt against Arce.
not true....it's in wbo rules that is a champion vacates his title, he becomes the immidiate mandatory for the title one divison higher or lower(whichever direction the fighter is heading)...how do you think segura became the mandatory for viloria?.....top rank aint got sh1t to do with it...

the jab kept landing throughout the fight no doubt but why so red and yes a bit puffy after the second round though? Hardly anything landed at that point. His eye got more puffy as the fight went on from eating the jabs of course, but my point was his face was already red/puffy just after 2 rounds, so obviously some of that is taking shots to the face but some of is similar to other fighters I mentioned where it was common for them to get puffy eyes early even though nothing really happened.
I wouldn't go as far to say vazquez busted up his face rather just some redness and swelling. I never saw Vazquez land anything really hard mostly just stiff jabs.
the jab was an issue but nothing else was IMO. Short of maybe 3-4 clean rights there wasn't anything of note
