Forrest also had a great straight right.
And this fight could have happened at 154lbs, Mayweather was the WBC champ before decided to vacate and said he was going to retire.
Forrest was in line for a shot at the title, so Floyd did get those brochures out.
If there was a possibility of this fight happening, Floyd would get the brochures out and go on vacation for a year or two.
Forrest was a big puncher, big height and even a reach advantage over Floyd, don't think anyone before has had that before.
He had a great jab, and it was difficult to tell where his punches were coming from with his looping shots.
Tough matchup fro Floyd. Still baffles me how much Forrest struggled with Mayorga, I mean yeah the guy is awkward and wild and a weird matchup but still it's Ricardo f***ing Mayorga haha. I think the Floyd we are seeing now (grown into WW body) deals with Forrest pretty well, but it's still a tough matchup.
Floyd got by with a split nod but a couple years earlier DLH would of got him.
Man everybody knows that fight was not a split decision. Stop hanging on to that BS De la Hoya won no more than 4 rounds tops.
Floyd definitely could've beaten him using his speed and legs. I do think Forrest is a little overrated. He was an excellent boxer but a tad slow and not all that powerful. He hit a fading Vince Phillips with everything but the ref and couldn't make a dent. Raul Frank. The list goes on.
Of course he could have, I think it would've been a tough fight for both of them. Forrest dealt very well with technical boxers, guys with unpredictable styles offset him. Would've been a chess match IMO.
Shouldn't Floyd have lost to Oscar if this were the case? Overrated or not De La Hoya is a damn good boxer and was way bigger than Floyd.

Now it's pretty obvious by my posting history that I can't stand Floyd, but while this may not mean much, Floyd has sparred Forrest on several occasions (IIRC).
I think there was an interview in which Roger stated that Floyd was gonna go after Forrest at one point because Floyd whooped his @ss pretty bad in sparring.
Not sure tho...but that's what I remember reading a while back.
I know they sparred, so I doubt Floyd would duck him or even be afraid to fight him. Also I doubt he would struggle like most think as he has experience fighting him.
Floyd via 8 rounds to 4 UD.
Now Vernon was a talented guy that fought tall well.
But he and Shane had a history in the amateurs and it carried over to the pro ranks obviously.
Now before Shane his best win was vs a towards the end Vince Phillips.
Now its shame that he never fought Cory Spinks or Zab Judah because Vernon never fought a fighter like Floyd, so we could compare.
Shane never fought like Floyd.
That said, he would give Floyd a very tough fight early for like 4 or 5 rounds. I think Floyd figures him out. By either timing his jab or pot shotting with the straight right.
Winky Wright had the best shot to beat Floyd IMO.
Floyd would beat him. On the outside he has the ring IQ to minimise Forrest angles, on the inside he would cut his space, make him miss and catch him with accurate shots.
Also I think people are overrating the range advantage Forrest would have over Mayweather. For a guy that is only 5ft8 Mayweather has a pretty wide range.
I have to agree, Forrest would have been too much for Floyd. Skills pays the bulls all day but a good big guy beats a great little guy. Forrest height, reach and athleticism makes him a nightmare for most welterweights not named Mayorga.

This is one of those match ups where I can't understand why a lot of people always think Floyd loses, I can't see it. This, in my opinion, goes pretty similar like the Oscar-Floyd fight.
what fighter in his prime did Floyd beat that had a jab?!?....let alone at 147...I've ALWAYS had Vernon in that match up.....IMO Vernon is all wrong for Floyd....thats just me!!
I compleatery agree! Forrest was a big 147, tall long arms and excellent jab. He had everything to offset Floyds speed, especially with that jab.
Like someone said earlier, Floyd would have waited til he was older and past his best, and than tried to sell the fight as credible.
