"I think after the Margarito fight, mentally, Cotto is not the same," Mayweather told ESPN's Brian Kenny. "You can never say what can happen in the sport of boxing, but I think Pacquiao is a quick starter, and if I had to lean toward a fighter, I would say Pacquiao."
But Mayweather, being Mayweather, made it clear in making that prediction that he doesn't view either Pacquiao or Cotto as being in his own league.
"I thought Cotto lost his last fight," Mayweather said of Cotto's split decision win over Joshua Clottey last month. "It was close, but I thought he lost."
IMO, this is to show how easy a fight can be done without Bob Arum being involve. He kept his word to Miguel when he told him: "Become your own boss". They going to try to make this look like haters need to stop saying I was afraid and ducking him. It was all Arum fault. We both wanted this fight at 140 and bla bla bla. Then he will add Cotto's accomplishment, fighting him with no disadvantage, he redeem himself against a cheater and the rest of PR bla bla bla.
They know what they are doing. That's why they didnt guaranteed money to Cotto. If the fight sell, you get pay accordingly. No 50/50 split, but there was enough incentives too make it happen. There is always a storyline for fighters and they have people working on every angle.
Isn't it funny how easily this fight got made as soon as Cotto became a free agent.
Just proving the point that Arum refuse to work with Mayweather
This fight only proves that Floyd waits till these guys are done as being elite fighters.....and then he tries to face them after smokescreen wins.
Mosley looked like sh1t against Mayorga....even worse than he did against Mora, but got a smokescreen win against Margarito (a guy who was tailor made for him).
Ortiz was @ss. The only top fighters he faced were Maidana, a fight in which he got owned like a b1tch, and against a mediocre Peterson, a guy he struggled with. He then gets a win over hype job Berto, and most people forget even GBP were questioning his heart for the sport prior to that upset victory.
Cotto has took two huge beatings, and faced weak comp at 154. He gets a win over a stevie wonder version of Margarito, and all of the sudden he is back in his prime.
Watch.....Floyd will wait till Manny is 36, lost a fight and then he will go after him.
Simple: Cotto wasn't the same after the Margarito fight which Arum took advantage of and quickly "rehabbed" Cotto, gave him a vacant paper title to feed him Pac.
Not only did this happen, Cotto who should have beaten Clottey easily had he been the Cotto before MArgarito.
Cotto won the Clottey fight but it was closer then it should have been.
Cotto was clearly not himself mentally.
Dirtbag Arum Feed Cotto to Pacman a year after his brutal beating from MArg.
On top of that they made it a goddamn CW fight when they knew Cotto had problems cutting weight.
After the fight Cotto moved up immediately to LMW, where he has gone 3-0 against pedestrian Competition.
Cotto has found a new, better coach and seem to be in a better place mentally than he have been for a while.
This was the best fight to be made outside of Pacman.
Rehab Cotto??:lol1: so Cotto was drug addict then?Jk When did Cotto had problems cutting weight?
Why would Floyd look for a fight outside Pac, when he could actually make it work? All Floyd have to do was not price himself out. Pac even offered him a 55% split for the winner.
Mayweather: "Cotto was **** when he fought Pacquiao. But now he turned into a young hungry lion that I'm looking for!":lol1:
