By far, boxing is my favorite sport and I hate when people talk badly about it; especially when they don't know sh!t.
But goddamn, things have just been getting progressively worse since last summer.
For the fans, the way the Ortiz-Mayweather fight ended was as bad as it gets. We were denied any closure in that fight, then Hopkins-Dawson and the Marquez-Pac fight didn't answer any questions regarding who was currently better.
My brother and I are DIE-HARD fans and he recently said he was going to start paying a lot more attention to MMA because boxing was dropping the ball.
The promoters are abusing our loyalty to the sport and I see a lot of people getting fed up soon.
It feels like we're stuck watching preseason NFL and we never get to see who's really the best in their division.
I know it's nothing new, but I feel like more and more people are being turned off by the sport when I used to have an easy time getting friends interested in the matchups. It's just so damn hard to sell a sh!tty product.
What I'm getting at -- I guess -- is what does everyone else feel? Is this as bad as it's ever been? I've been following the sport religiously for about a decade and can't remember it being this sh!tty.
Don't forget the headbutt showcase that no one saw put on by Bradley vs Alexander. The PWill victory over Lara. The hand tapping love fest by Pac and Mosley. The lowblow excuse by Judah. The real lowblow fight by mares v agbeko. The infamous toe of haye. And of course marg getting another title shot and payday.
Listen be like me, stream ppv's don't pay a penny for them & watch showtime to see those young uns beat the crap out of each other.
For example look at Ortiz-Berto 1. It banged on every last ppv.
Hernandez UD
Rubio vs Chavez is an even fight IMO. Donaire vs Vazquez is more of the same nonsense but we'll get to see how much of Donaire's physical advantages follow him when he moves up.
you crazy..... USS got this as long as he doesn't get blasted out.
cloud-campillo is in february as well
povetkin-huck
broner-perez
maidana-alexander
and a couple decent FNF cards and a showbox card.
that's a lot more than what UFC has going on this month
maybe, as diehard fans, you should stop giving a shi t about what floyd and manny do, they're jokes.
Did you see the fights in february? cunningham-hernandez is signed too. thats the best 2 in a division fighting......

it doesn't also help that as fighters' popularity and drawing power increase, his fighting frequency decreases. damn the top two ppv draws fight only twice a year while the other once every other year.
man i think the last 5-6 years for boxing have been dog s hit for the high profile fights but i think hbo/showtime have produced amazing fights. I think boxing is going to get a whole lot better very fast when Arum is out of the picture and now that greenburg is gone at HBO and Hershmen has taken over. I remember Richard Schafer saying he can not talk deal with Arum anymore and he is outdated and hurting the sport but saying he can deal with todd duboef who is smart, tech savy and pleasant to get along with.
I hear you.....What ever happen where the Champion would have to face the #1 Contender in their division? Now a days the top boxers can pick who, when, date, and weight who they want to fight. One thing MMA is doing right is making the best fighters fight the best.....maybe boxing should take note. I hope one day the Olympics will let any fighter compete just like Olympic Basketball. I just have this hunch that alot of these big PPV fights are fixed. Anytime there's millions dollars involved promoters can easily pay off fighters to lose. Example PAC vs Clottey, Mayweather vs Ortiz.......Just my 2 cents.
Man, I hope so. Just don't see it though. It's looking like 2012 is gonna be another bad year. Rios-Gamboa will be good but unless anything changes with how the promoters run their business, we aren't gonna get sh!t.
I'm seriously thinking about taking a year off from following it so closely. Just am not seeing any return on investing so much time into it.
Being a boxing fan is not easy with all the stuff we put up with. Then I get nights like Cotto-Margarito II and remind me why I love it so much. With it now looking like two big cards are already geting postponed/cancelled, Mayweather-Pacquiao BS, and these drawn out negotiations for every big fight, I'm definitely getting a little bummed. But looking forward to this weekend. Hopefully the doubleheader doesn't dissapoint.
I could deal with some corruption here and there. A missed opportunity for a great fight. But out of all the great matchups that can be made, we get lucky if we get a couple throughout the course of a year.
Everybody ducks everybody. Rarely do we get a people's champion like those from other eras. No gladiators, all businessmen. Guys who only care about getting wins and building up to maybe giving the fans one great fight in their whole careers.
As a Floyd fan, I HATED the way May-Ortiz ended, and I was excited for that fight. I know Floyd was in control, was winning, but it just left me unsatisfied for sure. Floyd usually picks up steam the last 6-7 rounds of the fight even more so, and I wanted to see him continue opening up on Victor, as he did in rounds 3-4.
Hopkins-Dawson......worst PPV I ever paid for, without a doubt. And I try to buy most, just to support the sport, and because I am a fan of all fighters mostly.
Pacquiao-Marquez III......could have gone either way, just like the first 2. If I had been forced to pick a winner and a gun was to my head, Pac won the first fight, JMM won the 2nd, and the 3rd was a draw.
And not to mention that Kirkland-Molina/Morales-Garcia was postponed and it looks like Ortiz-Berto II is off now.
I am just upset.
When I saw Ortiz-Berto II might be off, it just dissapointed the hell out of me. So looking forward to the fight and all the attention showtime was giving it. Hopefully Berto is ok, but it doesn't look good.

The controversy around the fights might be easier to swallow if it didn't cost us almost $200 to see them. Undercard were all pretty good, but I pay for the main event. Hopkins-Dawson was never gonna be FOTY or anything, but a round and a half and then Dewey Bozella? PPV hopefully step up this year.
