If Kirkland beats Molina, and given that Alvarez wins against who ever he will be fighting, unless it's Floyd of course, this is the fight I want to happen in the late summer.
I'd like to see Alvarez fight someone like Vanes in April, than step it up some more with Kirkland.
Cotto probably won't be there, because he'll probably be fighting Floyd or Manny in May-June.
The winner would definitely be in line to fight Floyd Mayweather. Alvarez will have gotten wins over Vanes (a good, unbeaten contender) and Kirkland (one of the top 154 lb fighters in the world), and he would be seen as legit. It would make Mayweather-Alvarez a very legit fight, where as now it's a C+/B- fight.
And if Kirkland were to win, he'd have wins over Angulo, Molina, and Alvarez, all top 154 lb fighters. It would make Mayweather-Kirkland look like a pretty big showdown, and a huge risk for Floyd.
Who you got in Alvarez vs. Kirkland???
if canelo can't finish Kirkland in the firsround he's done. Kirkland gets stronger as the fight goes on. he's tense in the first, hense all of the knockdowns he's suffered in his career were in the first, he's never been hurt past round 2.
He was buzzed by Julio late. But I agree with you.
You have to finish him in the first round. I also favor Kirkland in this fight right now.
Canelo could convince me otherwise with a impressive performance vs a puncher.
I think Canelo has the superior technique, defense and speed, which would win him this type of fight.
Alvarez by 7th round TKO.
I think Alvarez vs Cotto would be a much more competitive fight. With Cotto winning a clear decision while taking some bombs along the way.
Lol what? Hilarious......
For real.....too many people are making Kirkland out to be some unstoppable beast- the truth is,he isn't that at all. He is a muscular dude who walks people down and pummels them against the ropes. He almost lost last time out in the first round if you'll remember. What happens when he starts taking massive damage to the body? Is he still going to be able to throw those crucial haymakers with full force?
Canelo is much better than people seem to want to give him cred for but that's alright, as time goes by, he will grow on people. My point is that Kirland would not be beating up on some small kid......Alvarez is just as big, if not bigger than Kirkland is and he has better boxing skill than Kirkland.
Vanes is like a C+/B- fighter to me. He is thin, powerless, and eats punches routinely- Alvarez snaps him in half lie a twig....KO within 5 rds. Vanes won't take the challenge if it were to be presented.
Vanes would fight Alvarez. He just won't fight anyone besides an Alvarez or Cotto, to get a big payday. He didn't want to risk it with Angulo, who was one of the most feared guys in boxing at the time.
With that said, Alvarez has been avoiding a defense against Vanes for like 8-9 months now. I think he KO's Vanes as well, and Vanes will be exposed badly. But, Alvarez needs to step his compeititon up now, and Vanes would be a solid step up, compared to a past prime Cintron, Gomez, Rhodes, etc. If Canelo really wants a Floyd Mayweather fight in 2012 or 2013, fight Vanes in April. Than, fight the Kirkland-Molina winner in August/September.
If Canelo beat Vanes, we'd learn A LOT more about him, and more people would buy in if he beat him handily. Than, we'd really get to see what Canelo is really made of if he fought Kirkland.
Kirkland is 5'-9" and 154 lbs and Canelo is 5'-9" and 154 lbs.
Both guy are pretty big but Canelo is a thick guy, he could be fighting at 160 easily just as Kirkland could but I think Canelo is a better boxer than Kirkland is. If they fight, Kirkland does well early on but gets broken down by body shots and hooks by the 6th round, suffering several knockdowns from attempting to walk through Canelo's punches. That might work against a drained Angulo who underestimated you but not a strong, solid kid that doesn't seem to care who he fights.
Lol what? Hilarious......
I wish Alvarez would just fight Vanes in April. It'd be his most legit fight so far, and we'd learn more about him if he were to fight a young, prime, contender. His best win is still Cintron, which is why a fight with Floyd is only a C+/ B- at the higest, to me.

From what I've seen I would give James a slight edge.
Canelo has yet to fight a bigger stronger guy.
That's Kirkland.

IMO Kirland stops Canelo.
If Kirkland beats Molina he would have to beat Vanes Martirosyan as well to get a shot at Canelo. Yea I know, I know...It's BS. But, that's what the WBC is ordering.

I would say I want that fight one year from now to build it properly, but if they both win it would be a fun little scrap at the end of the year.
I certainly think Canelo will fall back especially in the beginning, it would be stupid for him to just stand his ground he should use his boxing skills which he has which are superior to Kirkland's but he should slowly be looking to push Kirkland back as the fight progresses because once Kirkland starts going back the fight would essentially be over.
I think Canelo should be the favorite but could understand liking Kirkland and depending on what I see in their next fights I might change my mind, either way the underdog is certainly very live.
This is a good fight now, no need to wait a year. Promoters put off fights to " build them up" or "let them simmer" and in reality they just want to milk more money from their fighters and take easier fights and alot of the time it backfires anyway. As a fan and not a promoter id rather see the fights when they should be made, not a year later.
I just cant see someone as defensively open as Kirkland beating Canelo. James can bang, is quick, fit, brings the ruckus every time out and is all heart but his chin is poor, he is open and is a basic fighter no special effects. Cant see him winning at all but hey its the type of fight both guys should be having, Lets get it made and find out!
Canelo gets hit too. However he hasn't fought anyone with enough pop to test that chin.
To put it simply, if Canelo was that good, he wouldn't be pampered & spoon fed. A champ that hasn't even fought on the elite level yet? Sounds suspect to me.
Kirkland by mugging. He would have to face 18 eliminators before getting to Canelo.
Also Canelo is heavy handed. He is not a power puncher.
Andrade last fight was garbage.
Canelo isn't a big puncher. He hits solidly enough. Tires and really hasn't beaten anyone worth mentioning.
Kirkland showed big power, conditioning and heart against Angulo. He wasn't pampered or babied & has the will to win.
The minute soemone stands up to Canelo past the 1st 4 rounds, he's toast.

With big power and excellent skill. Wicked body puncher and very patient too
The kid is a handful. I love a rumbler like Kirkland as much as the next guy but he gets taken apart by Saul imho

The kid is overrated and protected..
Kirkland would mug him..
Alvarez' power is overrated..he couldn't even stop Hatton despite hitting him with everything he had.
Demetrius Andrade is the future of the 154lb division...not Alvarez..
Canelo can bang, look what he did to Baldy... His power is evident imo. Matthew Hatton is a tough kid
I havent actually seen Andrade fight beforee, any key fights u recommend?
Kirkland stops Canelo dead inside of 6. Lets keep it real here. Canelo is a pampered protected little redhead.

no way vanes deserves a canelo fight
talk about NOT earning a payday
the guy calls everybody out after they are committed via contract to fight other people
he's done it many times
he's a con artist
Cant stand that sack of piss, he needs a beating.
Always running his mouth but struggled with a 307 year old Ouma...
Alvarez was outboxed by Gomez ffs.
They have been protecting Alvarez chin like a Faberge egg, giving him pillow fisted opponents.
Why do you think they are doing that for?
He got hurt and dropped by a old undersized opponent in Jose Cotto.
I noticed Alvarez doesn't like pressure, guess what Kirkland will do.
This is a Ko win for Kirkland
Alvarez was playing with Alfonzo, he coulda stepped it up and took him out when he pleased, it was like he was just trying a few little things out - glorified sparring session. At least thats the fight i saw
Cotto didnt drop him, he hurt him but thats boxing. Kirkland got sparked by Ishida man....
