Could Marquez actually beat Peterson?

Everyone makes a big deal about this age. Sure he is getting older but his skills and record shows other wise.

JMM would work him out and having him eating combos until the final bell.

Only fighter can outbox JMM is PBF. Only chance Peterson has is to overwhelm the older fighter with constant, unrelenting pressure. Which is also a good way to suffer a knockout, but he'll have to risk it if he wants to win. Thing is, I haven't seen Peterson apply that kinda' pressure. Seems like he fights more in spurts and even gasses a little in the late rounds. Marquez by comfy UD or even late stoppage.

Its a tough fight for both men. I liked the idea of JMM vs Bradley more then Peterson but they are both good fights. Lamont is a really good inside game, but unfortunately for him that plays right into Marquez's playbook. Peterson will definitely get countered in this fight but if he can land his share of body punches he will ware JMM down IMO, but I'm not sure if it will be enough to get a stoppage or decision. On thing is for sure is that Peterson will not be as effective against Marquez as he was against Khan.

Whenever I watch Marquez in action I'm always on edge because he seems so vulnerable. It's like, "..please don't get dropped, please don't get dropped.." I kinda' feel like Peterson is too big, strong and young for him. His arms are pure muscle. Marquez is a fukking master technician but I just think he looks too worn and frail for a guy like peterson. Hell, I'd no doubt be routing for him but I'm not so sure how he'd play out with the likes of Peterson, khan or Bradley in front of him. Your thoughts on the great lightweight? Discuss. I believe he has beaten PAC in all those trilogy fight or atleast a draw in every fight but I just dont think people realize how strong and skilled petersen is. Petersen gave Floyd hell in sparring and you know that is hard to do for such a skilled fighter as Floyd. I also have respect for Petersen for adjusting to Khan style and putting so much pressure on him that Khan could only hit the ropes and take punishment. Eventhough I believe Khan actually won the fight against petersen by a slight margin I was impressed with hois determination and eagerness to march on eventhough his was in with such a highly tauted fighter. Marquez might shock the world with this victory but I just feel if MICHAEL Katsidis can floor you with a style that petersen could employ that Juan would be in for a long night against Petersen. I really dont understand why Juan has to prove himself to get another PAC fight. Hes did enough already and arguably should be getting a 50/50 cut in a fight with Pac because of the closeness of the fight and his P4P status should never be questioned. Unlike Donaire who is doing everything in his power to duck Rigo. I always felt Donaire was over-rated but he could prove me wrong. Marquez losing to Floyd was no embarrasment and being outweighted, outclassed should have made his P4P status rise because despite every diswadvantage he called Floyd out and fought.

even if I have faith in marquez' endurance, skill set and courage, which i do, I really don't think he can hurt Peterson at all. beat him on points? sure, if he manages to time him perfectly for 12 rounds and avoids exchanging on the inside. just feels like peterson won't be fazed by marquez' punches much and would look to chase and hurt marquez. again , not that i don't have faith in marquez, i met him during cotto margarito weigh in and expressed to him how much he means to his fans and to the boxing world. Peterson is not going to just come at Marquez, he would probably try to make Marquez chase first. Even if he did pursue Marquez, he's a very smart pressure fighter and his size would play a big role.

Peterson is a good boxer but he doesnt have ko power. He punched Khan so cleanly and at no point Khan was in danger to go down. He also takes his time to land his punches something that Marquez will take advantage of. Marquez is one the best technician in the sport and in a pure boxing match, he will lose to Marquez better skills. Marquez has never been ko'd, he goes down but he always gets up. That shows you his heart. I think a strong, young puncher with a good inside game like Rios could actually hurt Marquez due to the fact that Marquez is 38, 39 years old.

Marquez might be battle worn, but he's still the smartest, GREATEST opponent Peterson has ever faced. The old man still has some greatness left in him. (JMM-Pac 3 is proof) Peterson has good speed and has the age advantage but the styles might make for a good fight overall. Peterson likes to come forward and duke it out at times, and this is where JMM's great counter punching will take over!

No doubt that Peterson is stronger and maybe slightly faster but in terms of skills, ah man Marquez will do to him what he did to Pac... or what Mayweather did to Marquez for that matter...

JMM has periods where he looks magnificent, then looks average, before again looking magnificent. If this fight pops off, I feel that JMM would lose because I don't think his heart will be in it anymore. He put his life into that Pacquaio ass whupping and then fighting someone like Peterson is like 10 steps down in terms of $ and prestige. I don't think we'd get the best from JMM at this point unless he is going to fight either someone like Pac, Cotto or Money. But if he fights him, War JMM
