Amir Khan is set to discover in the next 24 hours if he has secured a world title rematch against Lamont Peterson.
The British boxer has been seeking a new fight since losing his light-welterweight belts to the American in controversial circumstances last month.
Richard Schaefer, Khan's US-based promoter, has told BBC Sport that Peterson's camp have promised to give an answer over a rematch on Thursday.
If confirmed the fight would take place in Los Angeles on Saturday, 19 May.
Schaefer confirmed last week that a new offer to Peterson had been made which would see revenues from the fight shared equally.
A statement from Schaefer's company, Golden Boy Promotions, said: "Team Khan would agree to a 50-50 split of worldwide revenues derived from a rematch (including those derived from the United Kingdom) should Mr Peterson agree to participate."

UPDATE:
Amir Khan forced to wait to to learn Peterson rematch fate
A deal between Amir Khan and Lamont Peterson over a rematch is still to be agreed with the US boxer choosing to wait until an appeal over a demand for a new fight is concluded.
A spokesman for Peterson told BBC Sport: "Right now our efforts are focused on the appeal to the World Boxing Association (WBA).
"We are patiently awaiting a decision.
"Once that's done and Lamont is finally in receipt of his WBA belt then we will shift the focus to who he fights next."
Earlier, Richard Schaefer, Khan's US-based promoter, told BBC Sport that Peterson's camp had promised to give an answer over a rematch on Thursday.
But it now appears that the Peterson camp have no intention of agreeing to another fight while the appeal is on-going.

There is no way anyone can expect Peterson to negotiate on a serious basis a rematch until the pending appeal with the WBA is finalised and Manny has selected his next opponent. This deadline stuff is GBP putting THEIR time line ultimatum. They have offered 50 50 but Peterson is the champion and when the dust settles over the WBA appeal and if Manny is out of the picture Team Peterson will offer THEIR terms to Team Khan and Golden Boy. Those are the real terms that count and if the WBA appeal is overturned Peterson is even more in the driving seat than he is right now and I expect them to offer GBP and Team Khan a 60 40 split in Peterson's favor. Peterson might not be getting any more big money any where else but Khan is not getting his belts back or a chance to redeem himself unless Peterson fights him.
What goes round comes round. I don't think Peterson is very happy with Khan's post fight antics and his negotiators have had to deal with Team Khan in the past and I would imagine that was a less than pleasant experience. Peterson has the whip hand now and it is now Team Khan's turn to reap what they have sown.
That simply is never going to happen, I really don't know how some of you guy's got this "60-40 in Peterson's favour" into your heads. Even without those belts, due to his contract with GBP and his deal with HBO, Khan will still be able to get the same amount he got in his previous fights, same probably can't be said for Peterson. 50-50 deal on worldwide revenue seems fair offer and for some reason I just don't see him make that amount against Marquez or Bradley, and its a risky fight
Like it or not, the one positive thing Khan can take from this situation, is that it stirred enough controversy, that they can spin this lost into him not getting a fair shake there and move on. Peterson refusing to give a rematch will only add fuel to that. They're already talking about him facing Mosley.
Peterson better not lose those belts, cause if he does, he should ask Breidis Prescott, Marcos Maidana and Paul McCloskey if they're ever gonna get that rematch with Khan.
I want to see a rematch. Good fight... Good clash of styles...
Peterson has lucrative options though. Arum is dangling the Pacquiao, JMM, and Bradley carrots, so even though Top Rank all but wasted 2-3 years of his and his brothers' careers, he'll probably resign with them.
Khan and GBP don't have much leverage except for what would be a lucrative Khan fight. They seem desperate though (Khan needs the rematch to be able to redeem himself and get back on the Mayweather road). If the WBA forces a rematch, I can see Peterson vacating, but hopefully they have the rematch. Seeing JMM vs. Peterson is a great fight though, so it's win-win for fight fans that aren't Khan fanatics.

I think the appeal itself shows that Peterson is not willing to negotiate.
Peterson should accept the rematch.
I don't care what anyone says, even with the bulls**t point deductions, he didn't beat Khan. How did Peterson win anymore than 3-4 rounds in that fight???
If Peterson wants to prove he's elite, than rematch Khan and win again, than go on to bigger fights at 140 and 147.
If Peterson doesn't accept, than how could people possibly say Lamont isn't avoiding a rematch with Khan???
It's the not the same case with Khan-Maidana, because Khan beat Maidana fair and square. And this is coming from someone who's not even a fan of Khan. But, I am sick of hearing "Peterson shouldn't give Khan a rematch" and than listen to "Khan should give Maidana a rematch". That's a big reason why I can't stand Maidana, who wouldn't even give Victor Ortiz a rematch.
Khan-Peterson II, it's what's right.
How can you as a so called boxing fan say this??
I just cant understand replys like this.
Yes he acted like a whining little b1tch and has lost a sh1tload of fans after the way he has took his loss but you as a boxing fan would not want to see Khan/Pete 2??
By all means lose all respect for Khan but not wanting to see a second fight after how good the 1st fight was says a lot about the type of boxing fan you are.
don't care about Khan or Peterson... I want him fed to Marquez

Unfortunately there are many of them on here.
....he better not get the rematch..

using your reasoning, the fight should obviously be held in Manchester (where he can fill 20K+), from a business perspective
Dont expect that clown to make any kind of sense
How can revenues be shared equally.Larmont should get 60% of the revenue and the fight should be in Washington.Previous Amir Khan's fights in Las Vegas only pulled 2000 people so from a business perspective this fight should be in Washington.

The performance against Marquez was really poor and Manny did not look special at all. Peterson would be a easy fight where Manny could look good and restore people's faith in him.
For the Manny/May super fight to generate the most interest and money they both have to look good going into the fight where there is real belief that it is a 50 50 fight. Right now after that performance against Marquez there has been a big swing in belief that Mayweather would win. That has to be changed and if Manny looks bad in his next outing it would be a disaster so Peterson woud be a good option.
He could do that against Cotto.
Peterson is not a PPV fighter. I dont see any circumstance where Pacquiao would even consider him as an opponent.

Under what circumstances does Peterson deserve 60%?
