I think we can all agree, the second half of last year was a terrible on for Freddie Roach.
Manny Pacquiao got schooled again by Marquez, Linares got knocked out and Khan lost to Peterson.
What did it show us? Well despite Freddie training fighters for more then two decades, he still can't teach even the elite how to defend themselves.
Manny Pacquaio is the first to spring to mind, His speed, power and combinations are up there with the best in the business, but once backed up he can't defend himself. He has one game plan, and thats to throw a mountain of punches at awkward angles.
When Manny was struggling with Marquez, Freddie had no plan B.
Infact in several cases, I notice Freddie gets extremely nervous come fight night and does not know what to do when the going gets tough.
His fighters all seem to struggle to fight on the inside also.
Amir Khan for example this year, when Peterson got him in the inside, Khan would hold and push.
Which in some peoples minds cost him the fight.
I think the man who deserves all the credit from training camp preparation for Roachs fighters is Alex Ariza.
Where does the speed and power, that both Pacquiao and Khan possess come from?
Certainly not Freddie standing there holding mitts and wearing a body bag,
It's from Ariza's relentless training and track work.
Khan left Ariza for how long? One fight.
Why? Cause there is no strength and conditioning coach in the business like Alex Ariza.
In my opinion Freddie Roach is extremely overrated.
I think Freddie is a good coach and not really that overrated. The fighter has to perform too. Manny hasn't looked good lately, but looked great in the past. Same with Khan.
I'd say he's overrated, but I personally feel that people overrate the name of trainers and underrate what kind of relationship the trainer and boxer have. Mayweather Sr may be a great trainer, but pairing him with Hatton is just idiotic. Garcia may be a great trainer, but would you want to pair him with Broner? Just my two cents. But for the original question yeah. Not that's he's not good but he's not some guy who can make anyone great like some people seem to think.
I'd love it if Khan actually "spoiled" on the inside. But he doesn't. He stands there with his gloves beside his ears and watches punches hit him in the face.
he pisses me off when he does that...smh....Frauddy is a bum ass trainer...brother Nazim would sort AK out really nice!!
A basic defense isn't really that hard to teach and for a trainer that's as good as Roach is I'm sure he'll be able to sort Khan out. Roach trains Khan to spoil on the inside and get the fight back at range where he can use his reach and jab to control the fight.
Try again.

Hahhaha man accept it you owned yourself :rofl::rofl:
I think it's his lack of discipline and inexperience.
He tries to be too macho and prove how good his chin is. He leaves himself open so he can throw his ' dazzling ' combinations. But when he boxes behind the jab, he does look a lot better. However, his survival skills/defense worry me the most.
I think the real problem is Roach is being too cautious with Khan. He's taught Khan to run and use movement as a defense and not picking off shots/blocking/parrying etc.
It's obvious to all how 1-dimensional Khan looked when he fought Peterson, he had no answer to him on the inside.
Exactly. Cause Roach can't teach a fighter how to defend themselves....
You just owned yourself :lol1:

I don't believe that shiit about him "wanting to prove his chin" at all. If that's what he wanted, he wouldn't run so much.
He throws those combos because that's what Roach trains him to do. Fight at a stupidly fast past and throw pointless combos with no thought or conviction behind them.
A more suited trainer would have got him to calm down, sit on his punches more etc. The only time Ive seen Khan fight the way he was supposed to was against Malignaggi. I really thought Roach had something there.
So do alot of people, Limeys don't know much about boxing man...
Sure they don't have one world champion now for fucksake :lol1:
Aren't you Irish? :lol1:
Says the guy who thinks Khan should've gone with Mayweather Sr.
Yup.
The Khan that lost to Prescott was going nowhere. How blind are you that you cannot see how well he's progressed under Roach?
Hes progressed to really where he should be for an Olympic Silver Medalist. To me, he still gets hit with the same shots that Prescott hit him with.
I would honestly rather have Khan with someone like Manny Steward than Roach. All trainers are good fits for certain types of fighters. Roach and Khan don't fit.
I think so, Freddie seems to really work on what a fighter is good at, Rather than work on improving what he isn't good at....
That'll eventually bite you in the ass....
I think Khan would've been fine with Mayweather Sr.
:dunno:

He's obviously learnt a lot from Roach look at what level he is at.
Khan going to Mayweather Sr?
What level is that? Fight the weakest champion in the division for his first world title?
Then an old ass shot Judah and an overrated journey man Malignaggi?
Khan needs to work on his defense or he'll get ktfo again, anyone who knows anything about boxing knows this...
You obviously don't :lol1:
