Rigo Gave lessons to Gamboa as amateurs he was hes daddy lol But as pro's at 126 we never know Gamboa is a brickhouse and comes in at around 137 Rigo is bricks too but he came in fight night at 120 for a 122 fight nd LoL @ Mikey Garcia kid needs to be born again to be in the same League and hes trainer acknowledged it by saying he wasn't ready.
mikey garcia might be alright but i haven't been impressed by him and certainly not in the way that rigo and gamboa impress me

Rigo is all wrong for Gamboa. Gamboas biggest flaw is something a guy liek rigo takes advantage of, over and over again.
Gamboa comes in with his chin up, and flurries, and it's gotten him put down a few times in his career, and hurt in others. It would probably get him knocked out cold against Rigo.
I'm more of a fan of Gamboa than I am for Rigondeaux, but I think Rigo's style would be very difficult for Gamboa to handle. Plus, Rigondeaux must know Gamboa's game very well after fighting him so many times. Of course the pro's are the pro's, but their game and tendances aren't THAT different from some years ago.
The only thing is that Gamboa is looking pretty big recently, I think he'd have a pretty good size advantage over Rigondeaux even if they fought at some catchweight.
Fortunately this will forever be a fantasy fight and I wont have to seriously pick one over the other :boxing:
they know each other extremely well having trained together for years, hung about loads and even been flatmates both in habana and the states. not to mention that yeah they boxed each other a few times in competition.
it's a heck of an interesting fantasy fight but i wonder how it would pan out in real life- could be pretty boring.
I believe he beat Gamboa in the cuban national championships, in which Rigondeaux won 7 times.
There are a number of articles that mentioned Rigo beating Gamboa 3 times, I know Roach talked about it when he was briefly training him and others as well.
he also beat luís franco. who had a few fights with gamboa, they came out pretty even from those- both with at least one win.
amateurs are 4 rounders...pros are a different game.
a lot of people are riding off rigo's performace against ramos but you should also remember he struggle against cordoba. and oh yeah, cordoba is much better fighter than ramos so cordoba is the best opponent so far for rigo and he struggled.
gamboa will beat him in the pros...especially at 126.
Rigondeaux beat Gamboa a couple times at least already so I'd favor him.
I understand why you would say that, Natas, but that was a different time under a different system. Honestly, I don't know who I'd favor. I like Gamboa's style better, but Rigo just might be able to handle him. A couple of years ago, some guy laughed at a remark I made that Guillermo was probably more talented than Yuri. I wonder if that same guy would laugh now. lol
