MANILA, Philippines — After learning a painful lesson in a weight class that doesn’t suit his body, Manny Pacquiao will demand that his next fight — very likely against Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico on June 9 — would be at the welterweight limit of 147 lbs.
“It’s hard for me to fight at a higher weight class,” Pacquiao told the Bulletin when asked whether a rematch with Cotto can still be made.
Not at 150 lbs, said Pacquiao. Not even at 149 or 148 lbs.
Cotto’s name has emerged as Pacquiao’s solid backup plan in the event his promoter Bob Arum cannot salvage a megabuck match with Floyd Mayweather.
Arum is now back in Las Vegas and tasked to do anything possible to strike a deal for a Mayweather fight on the request of Pacquiao.
During a recent visit to Mexico, Cotto was interviewed by the local press there and asked about his plans, and the shaven-skulled puncher admitted that there are offers on the table.
“Right now we are listening to offers and see what’s the best for us,” said Cotto, who had lost on a 12th-round stoppage to Pacquiao in November, 2009, at a catch weight of 145 lbs.
Saying that he is “willing to face the big names,” Cotto said he is open to a second clash with the Filipino or a showdown with Mayweather.

Just fight Mayweather, Cotto. There is no point of a rematch if it takes place at 147.
Cotto Stans got exposed and this is the best you can come up with?
That's irrelevant. My point is your obsession with Miguel Cotto. It's pretty scary, actually. :lol1:
hahah, people are tripping on 3 pounds... 150 would really be so much better? manny is naturally the smaller guy, he started in the ****ing 118 range. i'd say 147 is a fair maxing out for pac
although this fight is pointless. someone who was ko'ed in the 2nd rd doesnt deserve a rematch, but cotto is good maybe he will come back stronger
So you expect from Pac to put on 14lb? And if I remember correct Cotto wanted to fight Margarito2 at 150. So I guess he is more comfortable at 150 than 154. Cotto knows Pac can't make 150, no way. But he still insists on that rematch. So let it be at 147.
well its more like 9 given what he's been fighting at recently (kinda like what marquez did but anyway...). well in that case why bother talking about the fight never mind trying to make it? the amount of people that want to fight pacquiao or mayweather he doesn't have to contemplate it just because someone "insists" on it.
HERE YOU GO COTTO STANS!! A gift from me to you. COMING OUT OF COTTO'S OWN MOUTH!

Do you jerk off to Miguel Cotto every night? I think you do. :boxing:
let pacquiao drop down and fight rigondeaux- what's the big deal he's fought down that kinda weight plenty...? the big deal is that cotto, like pacquiao has established himself at a higher weight as he's gotten more mature- just like pacquiao won't be dropping down, OR moving up i might add, cotto doesn't need to be moving down too much either. a catchweight should be used to meet halfway at a weight do-able by both fighters, pacquiao just simply wants his opponents at a weight they can't make whilst still remaining effective. that's the big deal.

Seriously, what's the big deal?
Cotto fought 8 of his fights at 147, I know for Margarito1, Jennings, Clottey, Mosley, Judah....and few others and Pacquiao's natural weight is around 140-142.

tbh when i saw this i first thought someone bumped an old thread.
pac-cotto 2 at 147 lbs is a joke fight. pac doesn't want to fight higher? why cotto at all then? just for the money is it? smh ....
If Manny is refusing the Floyd fight, which he is, why doesn't he fight Timothy Bradley?????????
Bradley is top 10 P4P, has fought at 147 before, in his prime, unbeaten. That's an A- fight, same as when Floyd fought Hatton when Ricky was Top 5 P4P.
If Pac is straight up refusing to fight Floyd, why not fight Bradley???????
Of course what do you people expect lol. This is how you know Pacquiaos greatness he has blown up like 5 classes and people just get used to it and expect him to keep blowing up lol. 147 is perfect for both. I am honestly getting really hyped for this fight should be a war specially with Cotto getting pointers from marquez and with new trainer. 24/7 for this will be insane!
If Mayweather fights Cotto at 154 lbs, you would dog it. But, if Pacquiao fights Cotto at 147 lbs, you love it. You are most bias and moronic poster on this site, either you or Check Hooks.
I will stand by what I said initially....
Pacquiao vs. Cotto at 154: B+
Pacquiao vs. Cotto at 150: C+
Pacquiao vs. Cotto at 147: C-/C
Same goes for Floyd.
Mayweather vs. Alvarez at 154: C+/B-
Mayweather vs. Alvarez at 150: C-/C
It looks like we're heading that way.
It's laughable that Manny can't agree to May 5th. The first negotiations, it was Manny, NOT FLOYD, who straight up walked away from negotiations, refusing the fight and drug testing. So, Manny avoided the fight in early 2010. Than, Bob's crazy saga about Money Time: Mayweather's decision lead a ton to beleive it was Floyd who was refusing the fight, even though Manny had NEVER agreed to random testing with no specific cutoff. Now, it's Manny straight up refusing to fight Floyd on May 5th, when he has NO REASON TO SAY REFUSE THE DATE, and his promoter wants it to happen on June 9th, and wants Floyd to get his jail time pushed back.
That sh*t is beyond laughable, it's f**king sad.

He is going to fight the guy he already beat the piss out of at 146lbs and is now going to take away his only advantage? Not to mention it will be worse now that Cotto's adjusted his body to 154lbs. :lol1:
Only blind pactard can get excited about this scam.
