Right now. Yes they're seemingly head and shoulders above everyone else in their division, Floyd probably more definitively, but they're welterweights. Sergio is the middleweight champion of the world and is naturally 20-30 lbs heavier than either one of them.
As a fan and because a welterweight moving up to take on a middleweight is ot unprecedented, I do want to see the fight. But I can't accuse either of ducking for many reasons, one in particular- they haven't fought each other yet.
I don't want to see either move up to 160, or even a catchweight, then move back down to fight the other because that weight excuse would then exist for the loser. Going up and then coming down in weight isn't easy, especially for relatively older fighters.
Maybe Sergio would've lost a little of his ability by the time the fight makes sense, but as long as he keeps winning I don't see a problem. As I stated, neither Floyd or Manny are spring chickens either and Sergio's slide, if it isn't drastic, would only serve to level the playing field for the size advantage he'd hold.
Clearly, Martinez was simply trying to keep his name relevant. Realistically, who really ever thought either Pac or Mayweather at this stage of their careers would go up to Middleweight to fight Martinez? People talk about him being able to make 154, but he's clearly stated he would prefer not to make 154 (also hasn't fought there in over 2 yrs) instead making 156-157 (which really...is a Middleweight fight).
Pipe Dream
Wrong.....
PAC doesn't have to fight Martinez because he has done enough already. Remember what Floyd said.....what PAC is doing would be equivalent to as if Floyd was knocking out heavyweight LOL. Actuall Martinez should be nothing to Floyd, Floyd should do what PAC is doing and go after Vitali.
Im sick of hearing about mayweather and pacquiao. I swear... If one guy farts, there like 6 threads of people interprettimg that as them calling the other out.
