I just rewatched it, and El C@cique@PR made it sound like they were trashing Martinez, but it was nothing like that.
the annoucers saying Martinez is begging for a big fight, it makes him look bad!
The host said "It's a shame that Martinez has to practically beg to find a first class opponent". He never said he was looking bad.
JMM said Martinez needs to earn a big fight, by fighting good fighters and make the public demand it, not begg for it!
JMM wasn't even really talking about Martinez in particular. He was just making a general point. He didn't say anything about Martinez begging.
After Cotto said "this isn't a hobby as much as it's a business now" in response to fighting Martinez, the host asked JMM "Does this mean that fights that don't involve Mexicans, Puerto Rians, or Filipino, don't sell?
JMM said something like "Every fighter can sell if they offer spectacle in the ring. I don't think it matters where you come from, whether you're Mexican, Puerto Rican, or Filipino. What's important is that you offer yourself in the ring and that you put everything of yourself in the ring and I think each of us have earned and demonstrated that in the ring. Anyone from any origin can win the opportunity, but doing it in the ring and demonstrating it in their fights. Being Mexican, Puerto Rican, or Filipino doesn't demerit
you from getting those big fights."
You made it sound as if JMM said Martinez hasn't done those things to earn a big fight. It was nothing like that.
Floyd/Cotto is certainly bigger than Floyd/Mosley when it took place.
That fight was sold on the illusion that Mosley had the warrior spirit still in him. Mosley never was and never will be the A side in a major fight.
May/Mosley was a bigger mismatch than what May/Cotto 2012 is perceived to be. I think that was a silly statement.
I think everything in the bold -wish is pretty much damn near your whole post- are silly statements.
Blah, Floyd-Cotto is not a bigger magnitude fight than Floyd-Mosley and that was signed on January 30 and the fight took place May 1st and it did 1.4mil.

He can if Pac can make it to the final bell.
similar to what i was thinking. if pacs has a good enough chin to stand with tito for 12 rds i think pac would be favored for the decision. i dont think pac could knock tito out but cut his face. anyways i think if it goes all 12 i might leant towards pac winning.
I think it was a presumption on Arum's part.
And honestly a fight between May/Cotto or May/Pac and its magnitude just isn't really feasible to sign, seal and ultimately deliver in less than four months.
I mean, the media tours and the necessary training camps...I don't know how anyone thinks that this could be done in May.
Either way...I also think its because he might have Cotto/Pac II locked up for a bout in June

Cotto is afraid of Martinez.
So Cotto is a free agent? Then why did Arum say Cotto was not fighting Floyd in May?

Maybe because he already has him set in fighting Pac in June? :dunno:
He probably told Cotto he has to sign a new contract to fight Manny, Chavez, etc.

hey pendejo, martinez is a middleweight cotto just moved up to junior middle weight and is only 5'8,, why dont azzhole steridio come down to 154 or fight andre ward who said he wants to fight him? martinez is only calling out smaller guys when there is alot of comp at 168,,,,
Hey pendejo, Martinez just moved to MW as well. Matter of fact Martinez moved to MW after Cotto moved to JMW. So lets not act like Martinez is a big MW. And, I'm pretty sure that Martinez would move down to 154 to fight Cotto. Hell he will go down to 150 to fight Floyd and Pac. Anyways Martinez-Cotto is a whack fight...Huge mismatch.
Aww, weak. The host said she was going to ask him about the purse thing, but she didn't when Cotto came on. She just simply asked Cotto if he was interested in a Martinez fight. Once again he gave the "boxing is a business" line. (AKA: I'm not interested)
