If he fights Robert Guerrero.
Public Perception has done a total 180 and everyone has their fingers pointed at Top Rank and Manny. Floyd has all of the power, all of the leverage.
If he fought Robert Guerrero he would give all of that back. It would be a slap in the face to the sport and all his fans and I think it would be crippling to the sport.
Now, the guy who people are looking at as actually wanting the mega fight(Floyd) would now be fighting some guy most people have never heard of....and someone who even boxing fans don't view as anything close to a potential threat.
This is Floyd's opportunity to separate himself....take a legitimate fight and put even MORE pressure on Manny/Arum....even if that doesn't work you just strengthen your grip on the public perception and that in turn will enhance his legacy when people look back on this era.
Martinez really isn't that good.
However he should move to 154 and beat a top name before trying to fight Manny or Floyd there or at a catchweight.
If he goes from 160 down to a catchweight, neither would get any credit for beating him.
IMO both Manny and Floyd beat this guy convincingly.
Wow, look at this idiot. Pacman just got outboxed by a smaller, weaker, slower lightweight. He won't beat Martinez dude!! That's why they denied him then started talking $hit lame.:stooges:
pactards and flomos are ridiculous, they have so much fear for martinez they hate him, it clouds their thought process and they dont want to see a good fight

I'm still trying to make sense of your post, it seems like a stupid 1. Was Martinez ever a welterweight champ, like Floyd was a jr middleweight champ?? Yeah, that's what I thought.:wtf:
we still on for our ortiz berto rematch?
Guerrero’s a good little fighter, and I do believe, given his frame and abilities he could be a legit welter down the line. I don’t mind “Mayweather-Guerrero,” I just don’t want it under these circumstances. Ideally, I’d like him to, as would the rest of you I assume, grab a fight at 140, test the shoulder, grab a fight at 147 then move on to Mayweather…and if he looks good in those bouts we might even be ASKING for this fight.
Thats what hiis cousin Was saying in the gym the other day they Like GBPs very much. I get more info than those hilera in primera hora. Ill confirmbitwhen I finish classes today
Im at scholl right now
Word man, sounds good.
I dont think that will be the case. He cant make the guy fight him. Its obvious that Arum wants to keep Manny away. Floyd was on his way to the slammer and Bob was talking about Manny taking the date that Floyd reserved. Floyd gets a pass and Bob switches that up to june. Manny's invinvibility has taken a major blow after Nov 12th and Floyd called him out prior to the fight. Guerrero is a lightweight who walks around at welterweight. He makes solid contact and he may have youth on his side on that night. Floyd will slip into a punch these days. These young fighters have great concentration and they will find him. He can make a mistake and slip into the punch instead of away from it. Anything can happen in boxing. Let's keep that in mind.
Martinez was a WW, he should fight Floyd or Manny at WW. See how that can go.
Martinez should make a name for himself instead of trying to cut the watby fighting Floyd and Manny

If Arum doesn't try and make the Floyd fight, Floyd should fight Martinez, Cotto, or Alvarez, in that order.
Martinez at 154/155: A
Cotto at 154: B+
Alvarez at 154: C+/B-
I would accept Alvarez, but not like it. He hasn't eanred a Mayweather fight yet.
I would be excited if either Manny or Floyd chose to fight Sergio Martinez, but I have ALWAYS said that neither guy should feel an obligation to fight Sergio. Sergio Martinez is a Middleweight, Floyd and Manny are Welterweights. People b*tching about Floyd shouldn't fight Guerrero, and I think he shouldn't too, can't complain if Floyd or Manny don't fight Sergio. It's the same thing. A guy coming up from LW to meet a WW at a CW, it's the same as a WW fighting a MW at JMW or a CW.
So, Guerrero would be a C- fight for Floyd, and he knows that. That's why the fight won't happen. If they don't fight each other, Floyd looks to one-up Manny in opponent selection.
When Manny walked away from negotiations the first time and chose to fight Clottey, Floyd surprised everyone and fought Shane Mosley, who was Top 10 P4P and coming off KO wins over Mayorga and Margarito at the time, and was the best WW behing Floyd and Manny. Everyone had been hearing reports about Nate Campbell and other guys, and than Floyd surprised everyone.
When Manny announced he was fighting Marquez at 144 lbs for his next fight after Mosley, Floyd announced that he was fighting Victor Ortiz, in his prime, coming off wins over Campbell-Berto and a draw he should have won over highly rated Peterson.
Floyd seriously one-upped Manny those two times, so if they don't fight now, what will change??? I could see Manny announcing a fight with Marquez or Peterson, than Floyd one-ups him and fights Cotto at 154 lbs. But, if Manny fights Cotto at 154 lbs and Floyd fights Alvarez at 154, Manny has the better option in my book.
If Manny or Floyd do fight Cotto, it better be at 154, not 147-150. If it's at 150, it becomes a C+ fight. If it's at 147, it's a C- fight. Cotto is too big for 147-150 right now. He's a solid 153-154 lb Super Welterweight.
Another thing I wouldn't mind seeing Floyd do, but it will NEVER happen, is pay Carlos molina some step aside money and fight James Kirkland at 154.
If Kirkland continues to win and if he's mathced up with Alvarez in 2012 at some point, expect to see Floyd fight the winner of that fight at one point or another.
Good post, and i agree with all your rankings of opponents at whichever weight.
But the Guerrero fight is more like a D in my book.
I also agree with Kirkland should be part of the equation. But i like your other option even more, since thats the fight i want to see most in all of boxing right now which is Canelo vs Kirkland. And the winner fights Floyd in Nov. We all know Pac/Floyd is never going to happen when its relavent so i wont even consider it.

that's really not the same thing at all.....
Is this what you think the situation is or is this being reported in the island through like Primera Hora or a reputable outlet?

He is wating and letting things marinated.
He is actually the Wild card(the barganing chip) for either Pac or Floyd, because of his free agent status. But he is more incline to Work with GBP as a Free agent and is considering a 2 fight deal with GBP If the 2 fights are Canelo and Floyd. If Arum doesnt delivered in giving him Manny or a give him a huge chunk of cash For any other opponent(when I mean give a huge chunk, I mean something close to 13 Mill guarantee), Cotto will go to GBP.
Cotto knows, Arum is trying to cash him out against Chávez and nothing else. So he either get paid or Arum will be left hanging
Thats just terrible. When Cotto loses to Floyd, and he will. Then Canelo will once again fight the loser?

If Arum does not want Manny to fight Floyd who do you think Floyd should fight?
Kirkland at 154 is a lot more credible fight for Floyd than his current line-up.
Interesting how Martinez does not want to fight bigger guys yet he wants smaller guys to fight him.
Same thing with you guys, you don't want Floyd to fight Guererro because he's small yet you want Martinez to fight Floyd a small guy.
Martinez and Floyd have fought at 154 at least once before.
Guerrero never fought at 147 ever.
Floyd vs JMM is more credible that Floyd vs Guerrero, and we all know how much everyone sh1tted on that fight.
pactards and flomos are ridiculous, they have so much fear for martinez they hate him, it clouds their thought process and they dont want to see a good fight
Hey Champ, any rumors out of the island about Cotto-Floyd? I mean from any news outlets?
