I think Manny Pacquiao is at a point in his career where if he was a smarter business man, he'd become his own promoter. He's 1 of the biggest world wide sports figures, and his name and brand is actually bigger than "Top Rank". I think at this point he should position himself to take charge of his own career much like Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather have done for themselves. He doesnt need Top Rank to sell PPV's anymore.
Its hard at times to see some1 as big as Manny, letting a promoter who obviously doesnt have his best interest at hand, running and controlling his career. At this point Bob Arum is actually hurting Manny's legacy.
Manny should take notes and learn from Floyd. At one point Bob Arum was actually the one holding up Mayweather/De la Hoya from happening because he didnt want to do business with DLH. So what did Mayweather do? He paid Bob Arum 750K to buy out his Top Rank contract. He became his own promoter and made the fight happen, you know why? Because Floyd REALLY DID WANT TO FIGHT De La Hoya.
Thats the biggest difference between the 2 fighters. If Manny really wanted to fight Mayweather he'd pressure Bob into making the fight happen. But he doesnt want it.
Many people say that Manny should break off from Arum. But i dont think its a good move business wise.
Manny is not an American like DLH or Floyd, he and his team doesnt know how to operate business in America. If not Arum he will have to hire another white guy trying to steal his money. It will end the same way for him. Without Arum i think his American appeal will suffer. he just doesnt know how to do it on his own out here.
Manny is not too bright a guy with this stuff. Everyone tells him to fire Koncz even his wife, and yet he ignores everything and does what he wants.

Arum is a smart business man; and Top Rank and Team Pacquiao are maximizing their profits.
Pacquiao fought Ledwaba on 2 weeks notice, and within 10 days of coming from the Philippines. Pacquiao was going to fight Barrera, Marquez, and Morales back-to-back-to-back; after the Marquez draw they were trying to fight an immediate rematch. Pacquiao stepped up from LW to fight De La Hoya at WW. He was on schedule to fight DLH, Hatton, Cotto, then Mayweather; until Mayweather brought up some cockamimi non-sense drug tests. However, Clottey, Margarito, Mosley, and Marquez are not bad names on his ledger.
If Arum is not there, there would be no one to look after Pacquiao in a business sense.
am I the only one that thinks he's not intelligent enough to do it?
I just don't see him being very business savvy
This.

You should know better than to think Pactards will be convinced with logic and facts.
There is a lot that goes into promoting a fight and the business side of things.
So is Manny suppose to some how do all of that, along with his politcal obligations as well as training for a fight?
Get real man.....
Every fighter has someone who handles to promotional side of things and someone who handles the business side.
With Manny that person happens to be Arum. With Floyd it's Haymon and Shaefer and when Oscar was fighting it was Shaefer as well.
You don't get it, let me explain.
Pacquiao has a normal, long-standing contract. Like 99.9% of fighters, he signed a contract to give a company (Top Rank) promotional rights to a set number of his fights. This arrangement essentially gives Top Rank control over Pacquiao's opponent selection, and thus limits the influence he has over his career.
Unlike most fighters Floyd hires promotional companies on a fight by fight basis rather than signing a multi-fight deal. This gives him leverage over his promoter because in the event that there is a disagreement between them Floyd is free to simply sign with another promotion, unlike most fighters who would be either obligated to comply with their promoters wishes or forced to go through a lengthy and expensive court battle in order to break their contract.
To summarise, people aren't saying that Pacquiao should do all his promoting himself, they are saying that he is in a position, like Floyd, where he is bigger than any promotion company and should take advantage of this by copying Floyd's example of being a free agent. Pacquiao doesn't need Top Rank to be a ppv attraction, and at this late stage in his career he shouldn't be losing 50% of his purse to any promoter, let alone a greedy manipulative liar like Bob Arum.
Sorry but the guy lacks the mental capacity for that and even if he tried he would be used and abused by leeches like he is right now but much much worse.
I mean the guy is even a puppet as a politician to, he isbeing used and manipulated by conservative elitist in the Philippines.
Even his charitableness is by someone else's design.

Your post would have more meaning if it was directed at an individual that had the slightest inclination to think for himself. On one hand it's sad to see a fighter get deprived of the riches that are due them, but on the other hand its Manny's life and what he gets from it is up to him. He's a grown man and he's been around the sport long enough to know how greedy some can be, even if they're the one promoting your fights and managing your career.
I think the main difference between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather is how each person values their respective careers.
i stopped reading after you said he's the biggest sports figure in the world... dont not have any respect for Michael Jordan?...
I think you mean Tiger Woods
Seriously, don't want him to. He would probably get into some legal **** every time. LMFAO. Pac has good intentions but he really isn't much into those stuff. He would most likely bomb at it. Speaking as a fan, he should leave that stuff to other people and stick to what he knows best. Everyone have their own strengths and it just happens that what he has in inside the ring not out of it.
That's not at all the reason that he can't run his own show.

It is impossible for Manny to run his own show given how busy he is with Politics and other things.
You bring up Oscar, but he suffered severely when he was a part time boxer/ his own boss.....losing just about every legit fight he entered.
Also, Floyd isn't his own boss and has guys like Shaeffer and DLH handling the promotion side of things and Haymon handling the business side of things.

Don't be fooled. Pacquiao has the final say in who he fights BOTTOM LINE. Bob Arum works for Manny Pacquiao end of story. Pacquiao is a fraud who hides behind his promoter. You think Bob Arum forces Pacquiao to fight who he wants? LOL, this is too funny. You're witnessing the biggest fraud in the history of the sport...you will look back at this and ask yourself how you fell for it.
