Ring TV .com has confirmed its earlier report that a deal is being considered between Top Rank Inc. and S pike Television for a weekly, 36-show boxing broadcast, although the original assertion that it is to begin on Friday, March 9 "may be premature," according to a source familiar to the talks.
S pike TV spokesperson David Schwarz acknowledge that discussions about bringing boxing to the network have taken place, although he would not say Top Rank Inc. was involved.
"Right now, all that I can say is that we're talking to a lot of people," said Schwarz. "****e is looking to expand its horizons and we're talking to a lot of different sports organizations."
According to a source familiar with the talks, however, Top Rank Inc. and ****e Television have had discussions about a tournament series, characterizing the conversations as "brainstorming," and adding that "March would be premature" to mention as a starting date.
S pike TV is apparently looking to formulate a fighting tournament series structure similar to Bellator Fighting Championships.
An MMA venture founded in 2008, the tournament-structured Bellator airs on MTV2, but "is very successful and is going to come to ****e TV next year," according to the source.
IMO, all this has to do with how poor PPV numbers are doing lately. Bob is lying to the fans with his estimates. They know there is a need to establish new fan base.
So are they stopping the Fox Sports deal? I can't see Top Rank running that many shows. A small upgrade from Fox Sports maybe, at least they won't be preempted by baseball or something.
****e lost the UFC but will start showing Bellator in 2013 (for MMA).
Definitely looking forward to this. Id like to see Glenn Tapia and Mark Melligen on some of these shows. **** even Mike Lee would be fine. Maybe get Alfonso Gomez or Delvin Rodriguez to headline a show.
I'm interested to see how ****e will present these shows. Boxing doesn't have to be premium network, A-level talent to be entertaining. I'll enjoy this **** just like I enjoy FNF and Warren's Prizefighter tournament. Reminds me of watching TNF on USA as kid. :boxing:
Let's hope they figure out how to market boxing.
Then we won't have the "THIS IS NOT UFC WTF!" crowd who can't appreciate the fights.
Tye Fields w/ Ken Lakusta going for the Canadian championship...again on Sportsnet Boxing sponsored by Independent Jewellers.
nah hes from iran bro
I think he's Jamaican.
I think he's more of a symbol then anything else.
Like Santa or John Huntsman.
Whatever you think he is, he is.
We can only hope they use it to make some real fights. They have to compete with UFC on S pike.
I wanna see Delvin Rodriguez, Bevendiez, Alvarado, Gesta.
But I expect a lot of Mike Lee crap though.
That's what I expect as well, a lot of Mike Lee fights on that network.
Well thats good,But one promoter getting those dates arent.Well be
having vanes fight bums on that show.
He still fights?
I forget what he looks like.
I wanna say he's Irish........no no no.......Brazilian?
The "spik" is censored because people were spelling it at such after when "spic" got censored.
Anyways that's awesome news...But, to find out is just a Top Rank deal makes me hold little hope that it will be successful and be there long term. Lets not forget how Top Rank killed the whole Versus deal by Yuri Foreman and Tye Field us to death.
We can only hope they use it to make some real fights. They have to compete with UFC on S pike.
I wanna see Delvin Rodriguez, Bevendiez, Alvarado, Gesta.
But I expect a lot of Mike Lee crap though.
Hopefully they get guys like Jose Benavidez to be on there. Top Rank tends to have soft matchmaking so I really hope they can get some competitive and entertaining fights.
