What is your take?
I believe this is an OVERRATED/OVERHYPED fad. These guys are professional boxers. They do this for money, and are expected to give 110% in a fight.
The "die on the ring" thing is overrated and overhyped. I call it:
“The Margarito Syndrome”
Recently, Max Kellerman put into Margarito’s mouth the “...would you die on the ring..” and he (Margarito) ran with it.
Now, Chavez Jr. said that he would “die on the ring”, and some folks are going wild with this. This is part of the show, don’t take it literary folks! You have to keep it real.
If a boxer were given the choice of dying and wining or living and losing 99.99999999999% will choose the later.
So what you think? Overrated/overhyped Fad or “I’m the Macho Man”, and will die on the ring? Explain why.
I think this type of mindset is quite widespread in Japanese boxing. Remnants of the warrior aristocracy culture linger on. It is similar in a way to the thinking of the vikings, where dying in bed of old age was considered shameful for a man, and dying in battle considered noble and fitting.
i was gonna say vargas but you beat me to it, lol, id believe it if vargas said it or mayorga did aswell, lol, i would truly believe brandon rios though cause he loves to fight and he fights with fukkin passion whenn hes at war, lol id believe penalosa aswell , lol, i remember a fight gerry was getting his ass kicked but he still kept on coming, lol, i forgot who he fought thou
All those guys are warriors, but Mayorga let me down when he Q U I T when Cotto layed some waste on him. He litterally went: No Mas!
By the way......I did not see the backwash or all the critics come after him for quiting?????
Think this was just a sneaky thread created to diss Margarito by a female-like Cotto fan......
STFU.
This is not one of those threads to cause controversy. Just seeking the consensus on what the opinion is when individuals utilize the "Ill die on the ring" statement.
Sorry that it's better to not sacrifice "for the fans" like other boxers. Dude proved he will die in the ring. He has my props.
I bet if it was a PR boxer who would "give his life in the ring", your tones would change. You guys are the most fanatical pieces of shit on here.
Nah, I dont think so brother. I dont care for chesse sound bites, go for what I can see on the ring. If you are going to talk, keep it real and show what you got on the ring.
will any boxers in this age die in the ring? probably not
but to have that mentality of putting your life on the line is a good one to have IMO..don't mean u go in there and look to get mashed up..but it means u are not concerned with the outcome, ur going to get in that ring n give it your all
The old Pacquiao was also willing to go out of his way to bring the fight to who ever stood in his way. The only time I saw him kinda give up was in the first Morales fight.
Certain fighters you have to kill their will to keep them from trying and certain wills can't be broken.
Fernando Vargas, Tony Margarito, Diego Corrales, Gatti, you've never seen these dudes back away from any confrontation. It's all balls.

Marg is the ONLY dude in the game that I believe would REALLY put his life on the line in there....other than that, dudes be frauding when they say ish like that....Marg is crazy like that...dude don't give a fukk!!!
Its just stupid macho talk. Cotto knows what's up, this is a career, you make your money, stay healthy and get out. Dying in the ring shouldn't be joked about or used as a cheap sound bite.
Although I certainly understood the point you were trying to make, "The Margarito Syndrome" is not a 'fad'. I think the results of this pool would prove that.
I see it as a "Fad". At times is missused/exagerated.
Even floyd stated this supposedly when moseley rocked him, didn't he state that he told sugar "you're going to have to kill me"?
That sounds like Floyd, he's always been one of those fight-to-the-death type of guys, lol.
It's a combo of stupidity/hype and an excess of testosterone.
Fanfare.

Boxers just say that to sound tuff. In cheatos case he is probably so stupid that he would risk his livelihood to prove a moot point, but what if he wasn't to die? what if he just stays in vegetative state? All the money he made was going to medical bills, his wife has to resort to whoring to support his kid.. see where I am going with this? They actually think that they can die a quick death not thinking that they can end up like mcellan or other boxers who have stayed alive but are useless. Even floyd stated this supposedly when moseley rocked him, didn't he state that he told sugar "you're going to have to kill me"?
i dont know about this thread but i do know if that fight went another 2-5 rounds cotto would have bee stopped.. i belive we should go back to the old times where fights lasted 20 rounds
