They call it a Baker's Dozen, meaning 13. So here you go, fight fans, predictions as to some of the highlights and lowlights coming during 2012.
Before we go into the future, I must reveal that that Pinay Psychic and Seer Without Peer, the Amazing and (in a string bikini) Incredibly Alluring Madam Auring, let me use her remarkable "third eye" to peek into what comes in the next annual period. (I feel so privileged!)
Floyd Mayweather Jr. completes his slated 90 day jail stint without incident and even goes home early for good behavior while in the hoosegow...the calaboose...the pokey, call it whgat you want, it's not a cushy Four Seasons or Marriott Hotel...
Mayweather is back with a fight in June and, fasten your seat belts, because he's taking on Sergio Martinez, starving for attention and a serious big payay. The Argentinian agreed to a catch weight of 154 pounds, halfway between middleweight and welterweight. FMJ also adds a contract clause that Sergio cannot be more than 10 pounds heavier on fight day or he must pay a $1 million (proceeds of which FMJ plans to bet on the NBA Finals.)...
The Martinez-Mayweather brawl signals a new offensive by Serge's promoter, the Volcanic Lou DiBella. Tired of treading water as the fight game's No. 3 promoter, DiBella and his minions vow to push top dogs Top Rank and Golden Boy to the max...
Andre Ward continues to fly high and, surprisingly, a super middleweight showdown between he and Resolute Romanian Lucian Bute is made for September. And, get this, SOG Ward is so bold he goes into the Bute Backyard, meaning Montreal where they have an instant sellout. Now that's a ballsy champion who does that...
The level of refereeing in major bouts gets better as it's hardly possible it could get worse. One bright idea Nevada has is to have Big Jay Nady teach the mechanics of refereeing to all new referees. The WBC likes Nady's tutelage and he starts doing clinics for them as well...
Klitschko Brothers fight, defending their respective heavyweight straps on the same show in Los Angeles in October. Dodger Stadium is the venue as Wladimir fights popular Mex-Am Chris Arreola while Wladimir takes on, takes on...I mean, who really cares? Amazing amount of Hollywood stars turn up at ringside for this K2 extravganza and the undercard is loaded with area ticketsellers. Final crowd count is 32,000 paid. Ballpark boxing lives on...
Power puncher Thomas Dulorme is hailed as the Puerto Rico heir apparent to Miguel Cotto as he keeps wiping out foes with sledgehammer blows...
Rejuvenated Cotto eschews a stay busy fight and is delighted when Uncle Bob Arum comes to him and offers Manny Pacquiao rematch. Arum says Cotto-Pacman II is going to the Bay Area but it winds up at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in early June. (Arum keeps hinting the winner of this bout definitely fights "Money" in the fall.)...
Nonito Donaire Jr. has a banner year, three fights and as many victories, including sending happy warrior Jorge Arce into an unwanted retirement (unwanted by Arce, that is). At year's end, an explosive, fan friendly Donaire-Yuriorkis Gmaboa showdown is inked for February, 2013...
James Kirkland avenges loss to Nobuhiro Ishida and grows stronger with each fight. Trainer Ann Wolfe's professional stature keeps growing and she adds two other high profile boxers to her training regimen. Kirkland grabs share of middleweight title as Martinez goes up to 168 pounds after losing to Mayweather...
As expected, Brandon Bam Bam Rios and Marcos Maidana match is made in LA and yes, the firworks start early and end late. Robert Garcia's pride and joy is down twice, cut badly and still snatches victory from jaw of defeat in closing seconds of 12th and final round. Rematch is mandatory according to the fans and Top Rank and Golden Boy, in this instance, are happy to comply, setting up November rematch. Maidana-Rios on top of almost all Fight of the Year ballots as 2012 winds down...
Sometime in July, icy relationship between Mayweather and Pacquiao camps melts a bit and Todd duBoef of Top Rank breaks bread in LA with "Money" Man Al Haymon. Wheels start turning and mid-November Floyd-Manny fight...
Dream Fight actually happens and the winner is....oops, all of a sudden Ms. Auring's Third Eye is heavily clouded. It's more clouded than the right eye of Margarito AFTER Cotto took his revenge in the ring...
Check back later for the Mayweather-Pacquiao prediction as you know it will lawless and flawless.
All in all, 2012 looks more promising than the mixed bag we got out of 2011.
If I ever get access to a Fourth Eye, I will really be dangerous...
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
