I've noticed that most devastating punchers tend to be short-waisted (small torso) in comparison to the size of their legs.
Thomas Hearns, Earnie Shavers, Julian Jackson - all considered the go-to guys when talking about punching power - all had strange proportions in terms of their waists, legs and shoulder girdle.
Wide shoulder girdle, short torso, long legs, and also an upper arm that extends below the waist...
both of you are right and agree with each other..yet seem to be arguing???
Just a misunderstanding on my part. Apologies... to both of you.
its cool bro, i should have stated it better.
Power punchers come in all shapes and sizes. Long, lean guys; short, stocky guys; muscular guys; totally ordinary looking guys. There is no formula because power is a composite of many different things.
Look at Cuevas, Jackson, Tua, Hearns. All very differently proportioned guys, all with sickening power.
not what i meant. i meant that their punching power is derived from their lower body as opposed to their upper body. lanky fighter like hearns use their longer reaches, their ability to follow through with punches completely. its a different type of punching. there are different schools of punching, u do know that rite?

Yes, I already mentioned that in the post above.
What "different type of power"? It knocked people out didn't it?

those guys had different type of punching power, it came from their legs and their waist. look at all of their legs and you will see one theme, they have very large calves and thighs.

Compact fighters like Marciano,Frazier, Tyson and Tua are among the hardest punchers

I say theres no true formula. It's all by chance, certain fighters have the genes, where the right muscles and bone structure needed, are efficient at generating power. There was this guy at the gym who was thin and slow as a mofo, yet when he connected, even on your arms, you felt the punch spread through your body, it was more of a thump when you heard it, kind of like James Kirkland, they don't whip, but "thump" when they land. I say Saul Alvarez has that type of punch, as well as Maidana.
I don't know if you ever sparred, but you'll know when you're in with one of those guys, the shots that land sends like a shockwave when you get hit, even with 16+ size gloves.
Anyways, i say it's genetics.
more of a lanky thing ..
hearns shavers pavlik miranda long armed fighters create more leverage when thrwing a punch than compact fighters due\
im 6ft2 150lbs and have been told i hit very hard
