It seems their broadcast team is amateur. You got guys like gus johnson who doesn't know a damn thing about boxing and other nobodies. And the ring is always so amateur looking with all those stupid adverts and stupid colors, I like the old school blue canvas red ring.
HBO vs Showtime
I like how the fights look on HBO netter then on Showtime but I actually like the announcers better on Showtime! I hate Lampley and Merchant. I like Al Bernstein and Johnson better and I think Tarver does a great job even better then Emanuel and a lot better then Roy Jones! I do like Max Kellerman tho! That being said as long as the fights are good I can careless of who the announcement team is lol!It seems their broadcast team is amateur. You got guys like gus johnson who doesn't know a damn thing about boxing and other nobodies. as annoying as merchant can be I just love the RJJ/merchant/lampley team. Lennox instead of RJJ is fine too. It just works for me, and so does all graphics HBO uses. Then theres the ring that looks like a real boxing ring.
I mean hopkins pascal was fought in a purple ring with slippery ads all over the floor wtf is that
Johnson doesn't seem right for boxing other than that not a big deal
There production does not have the same sharpness but as stated before there sound quality is better than HBO you hear the punches clearer on there telecasts
Hell naw, showtime is boss in commentating & actual quality matches. I have no opinion on sky, but I'd watch it for sure. Hbo is the one that's full of crap, big stars in one sided fights, who else is tired of that is the real question.
hbo's production makes you feel excited like you're watching a real PPV event. Showtime's production feels like you're watching bumfight in someone's basement/gutter/sewer
Must be the only one on here who likes Gus Johsons punch by punch calling of fights.Ya he has retarded moments but he gets you excited for a fight Bernstein and Tarver are solid too.On the Sky side of things does anyone prefer Nick Halling has main commentator to the rest.I felt he did an excellent job last weekend on the Khan Peterson fight
HBO's production quality is better than Showtime's for sure. I'm not huge on either network's announcement crew, but I like HBO's overall look and feel compared to Showtime's.
Antonio Tarver is excellent. He's very articulate and always fair in his comments about non-American boxers.
Steve Albert is okay, and Gus Johnson isn't too bad.
Al Bernstein and Steve Farhood are awful, they are biased against European fighters and always discredit them when they see an opportunity. They score close rounds against them (Holyfield-Valuev, which Bernstein was watching from a screen in the US while he was commentating) claim point deductions are unfair when they are not (Abraham-Miranda I) claim fair stoppages are early stoppages (Bernstein went on and on about the Sheika and Mitchell stoppages against Calzaghe) never give them fair credit (Bernstein: "there's something wrong with Lacy tonight " - no, Calzaghe was what was wrong with Lacy :nono:).
how could you possibly say Al Bernstein is awful and Gus Johnson "isn't too bad"? One's spent his life following boxing, the other prefers MMA to boxing.
