steve smoger is the ref so we all know he'll let them both fight.
everyone says smoger is the best ref in boxing so I don't want to hear any excuses from either sides after tonight!
very good. There shouldn't be any need for excuses then. May the best man win (i hope)
I'd be happy to see Froch throw massive rabbit punches to the back of Ward's head if Andre jumps in clinching all night.
Fight fouls with fouls.
im sure Froch will throw them brick like rabbit punches if Ward holds without the ref doing **** all about it (like the Dirrell fight). But if the refs biased for Ward (following the pattern for most of the super six fights) then Froch could get DQ'd for it.
lol it should be a good fight whatever happens. I think froch can down get down & dirty if he needs to. the guy knows how to win or at least make fights close.
winner of this fight should be Fighter of the Year, imo.
lol yes Froch can be very dirty when necesary but if the ref is overly biased this might not be a good thing.
The amount of joke fights/contriversies there have been this year if the winner is fair they should definatly be fighter of the year.
i really wont mind Froch losing to Ward if its a good, fairly fair, fight
I actually agree with u i do believe it will likely be closer than many people realize, froch is underrated
yes i believe he is underrated by alot of people who see him and say 'what a slow, clumsy, bum this guy is'.
it is true that he can be slow and clumsy though but he has other great qualities that more than make up for this.
**** i hope he doesnt get schooled by Ward after ive said all of this though.
I'll be crying later tonight after ward dominates froch, tears of joy of course :nana:
dont be so sure even if the ref is biased Froch is used to fighters holding him unlike Kessler. i remember Froch timing Magee (yes i know Magee is **** compared to Ward but a clinch is a clinch) as he kept holding (because he was scared of getting hit.)
Anyway Froch knocked him unconcious with the right uppercut and i remember seeing Ward getting knocked down against Boone, who is not a puncher, with a right uppercut when trying to initiate a clinch.
So i honestly believe Froch, who will also be much better prepared for Ward than Kessler was, does have a great chance at winning even if the ref is biased
Ward's obviously good, but people can't give Khan **** about his pushing then turn around and not give Ward equal amount of criticism for his excessive clinching.
It sure as hell ain't inside fighting what Ward does in there.
If Smoger takes a point away for clinching, people will say he doesn't allow inside fighting.
Well... who reffed Toney-Jirov which was PREDOMINANTLY an inside fight at close quarters with less then 7 clinches throughout the ENTIRE 12 rounds?
Smoger.
what a protected, home town, ***** Andre Ward is. 88 clinches and like 5 headbuts and not even a warning.
With a competent ref Ward would definately had some points deducted and been disqualified. Either that or Ward would of been knocked out without the hit, hold and nut illegal tactics.
i dont give a **** what any of you Ward cunts say, your boys being heavily over rated thanks to **** hometown officiating
i was angry watching that and im not even Kessler fan so i can imagine how Kessler and his fans feel about that atrocious joke of a fight

Nice reminder of what we are in store for tonight. There had to be at least half as many headbutts. One of these days Ward will get a ref who wont allow it. He had better hope its not tonight.

you cannot defend this.
If he does this crap again tomorrow I hope froch cracks him with his elbow and breaks his nose.
I love how the Ward huggers ignore this.
That's one way to deal with it, and no, not kidding. It's a FIGHT. If you can slip in a slick elbow, do it. Duran's elbows were genius. Khan scored a knockdown with his last weekend. Hell, Tyson's first hard punch on Spinks was a forearm to the throat. If Ward gets funky, Froch needs to back at him HARD but smart. Force him to worry about getting close and then use his longer jab to time the quicker man.
Smoger will let them get rough.
Theres no way you Can have about 5 headbutts (causing cuts), and have them judged accidental and then say they did not have an impact.

Ward leads with his head sometimes; that's not the same as straight up butting. He punches at the same time. Fighters have been doing it forever and most talented infighters make an art of it. It's a fight. There are tactics to overcome that stuff.
Kessler lost because he was clueless fighting inside, same reason Calzaghe came on after the first third and even hurt him downstairs. He needed to step to the side and whip an uppercut. He couldn't/didn't all night. I've always really liked Kessler and I love what Montoya appears to be doing with him based on his last outing. He is shortening his shots, whipping more to the body, and bringing the cut. A rematch could be interesting if Kessler can get active and stay healthy. There's not a lot of guys who can get past his jab. Ward could. Kessler couldn't adjust and, while Reiss stunk that night, it was still a tactical loss. Kessler would have lost almost anywhere on earth that night (say almost because it's boxing).
He's still a factor and, if Froch wins the 6, revenge could be a hell of a motive to get an even better rematch. Kessler may wear the big crown yet.
