I read that Jack Johnson book, Unforgiveable Blackness. Basically, there's alot of parallels between how Johnson was treated in his day for being black and proud, flaunting his wealth and successes, and it isn't much different from what Floyd does today.
I am thinking that would mean Manny Pacquaio = Jack Dempsey. Solid fighter with not much substance, scared to fight the top black fighters and suspected of corruption/cheating. Not forgetting Dempsey's association with Tex Rickard, an early boxing promoter who was more interested in selling out arena's/making a buck than actually putting on the best fights.
Oh by the way, as for being afraid to face the top black fighters, he not only fought them all, but he fought them multiple times and he was the Coloured Heavyweight Champion of the World for years, until he beat Tommy Burns for the universal title.
So where ever you're getting your information from, I hope you don't pay for it.
Once he became champ, he didnt fight any blacks. Thats a fact.
Johnson beat a teenage McVea, a Jeanette with barely any fights, and a Langford that only weighed 150lbs. In other words, he fought all of them when they were pre prime. And what a surprise, he didnt fight any of them when they were actually in their prime. This is not up for debate.
He must have fought about 40-50 times against black fighters, but the promoters wouldn't pay to see them in championship matches, although he fought Jim Johnson in Paris, and was signed to fight Sam Langford, also in Paris but it never happened.
.
He must have fought Joe Jeanette at least a doxen times, Sam McVea, Black Bill, Klondyke etc all black fighters. As for the myth that Langford gave him a very tough fight, this is simply untrue. The newspaper report said that he beat Langford up pretty badly, knocked him down and on the verge of a KO several times but allowed him to go the distance.
Johnson knew that he could have been taken out an d lynched at any moment but faced it through. Didn't they pass the Mann act espectiallyfor Johnson, to get him into jail "legslly". This is NOTHING like Mayweathter, they should not even be mentioned in the same breath.

what a joke this thread is. The comparison isnt similiar at all, since the social climate today and Johnson's time isnt even somewhat comparable.
I also think its funny how you say 'afraid to fight top black fighters'. Once Johnson became champ, he turned his back on his own race, and refused to give McVea, Jeannette, and Langford title shots that they deserved.

"Jack forgot all about his old friends after he became Champion and drew the color line against his own people."
you can't compare jack johnson to mayweather.
black people aren't racial opressed and looked down upon like they were back then.
mayweather being called a "duck" is nowhere near as close as the **** jack johnson was called back then.
You know what's worse? That you actually stole my color also. If you look through user history you can see I've had this name and color/font all along, since 2010. You on the other hand have had it what? 5-6 months?
