Seriously? Linares lost because he ran out of steam. It was his conditioning that was the problem for him. He looked great in the first half of the fight. And with the Pacquiao fight he underperformed, simple as that. The game plan set in place was perfect to beat Marquez. As for the Khan fight last night it was Khan's silly ego that lost him the fight. As soon as Peterson landed he thought he needed to show that he didnt hurt him. It all comes back to the knockout and round 10 in the Maidana fight. If Khan fought with the tactics he fought in rounds 1 and 2 for the whole fight then he probably would have stopped Peterson. So Khans discipline was the problem. None of this should be directed to Freddy Roach.
I disagree. Roach should be the first to tell his fighter to calm down. Linares was winning on the score cards by a huge margin. Had he been taught to clinch or been smart enough to take a knee, he would have won that fight.
SMH.....
I hate Roach....but you guys are idiots.
He gave perfect advice which was fire up the middle, because Peterson was throwing wide punches trying to land the right hook, and to dip under when Peterson was trying to back him up on the ropes.
Khan actually hurt Peterson when he went up the middle, and the times he listened to Roach, Peterson couldn't get him against the ropes and Khan was dominating him in the center of the ring.
IMO Khan made this fight harder than it had to be. There were long stretches were he had his guard up, stood against the ropes and allowed Lamont to find openings.
That's 100% on Amir as he allowed Peterson to steal rounds, and make rallies to change to momentum.
Ariza shakes just aint the same.
Nah. Them Ariza shakes are still quite effective. Khan was taking many, many hard flush punches to the head and yet was still standing. Peterson is a bigger and more powerful fighter than Prescott too. And yet, Khan stood his ground despite being hit waaaaay more times and with harder punches than what Prescott landed.
Ariza's shakes are so effective, that Khan literally taunted Peterson to hit him on the chin again! Then in another moment, spread his arms to taunt him so more to indirectly say -- you ain't hurting me!
Them Ariza shakes are no joke! What's laughable is that despite such powerful shakes, Khan still lost! Haha.
Roach is an over rated trainer. But he gets all the glory when his fighters perform the way they do against carefully selected and obvious overmatched fighters with a common style. Add to this the possible past shady shyt going on with his conditioning "guru".
The deficiencies I have come to notice in his game is the all action style that abandons technique for volume and power. He has 2 fighters that rush forward in str8 lines while throwing punches with a neglect for balance. All are susceptible to body work. And most importantly, they cant fight on the inside or at long range. Mid range solimente.
And just like roach, these guys take lots of punishment when they are not against their traditional mismatches.
IMO, Roach is a C+ in the area of technique. A B- in mid-fight adjustments. An A- in prefight gameplanning. And a A++ in matchmaking.
Lineras, then manny, now khan...this guy hasnt been giving good corner information this year

he offers 0 advice in the ring lately tho
You should listen in between rounds during the Khan fight he gave very specific instructions Khan just didn't execute them in a effecient manner.
As for Linares he had won every round but 1 and just got caught and couldn't recover so......
And that was actually great advice, but it's not Roach's fault that Khan instead chose to runaway and shake his head in the inside, Roach's advice was not "Shake your head when ever he catches you clean, judges love that" or "Shove or push him really hard if he gets too close". When I heard Roach give him that advice to throw down the middle and throw uppercuts, I thought to myself "Damn, that is some pretty good advice, and makes sense since Peterson is throwing wide shots to the body". Did Khan execute this advice? No he didn't, so it's not Roach's fault. He gave the correct advice, Khan didn't follow through with it.
Or maybe Khan didn't feel confident of carrying out that advice.
I thought he kept telling Khan to throw down the middle, and to throw uppercuts which he did with some success.
But, I agree that Roach isn't looking good this year. I'm beginning to wonder if the Parkinson's is really affecting him now. There seems to be no plan B and no adjustment during the fight with his gameplans.

I think Brother Nazim and Robert Garcia give some of the best advice in the ring. Roach isn't even close to being on their level.
Garcia is actually one of the most overrated trainers in the last 10 years. Roach is better than him. And Nazeem has those three big wins to fall back on with Hopkins-Pavlik/Pascal and Mosley vs Margarito. Mosley vs Mayweather/Pacquiao, was more of Mosley being too old and fighting the younger better fighters. Hopkins vs Dawson was not Richardson's fault that Hopkins overreacted to a minor injury. But at the end of the day is all about the fighters. You can give a journeyman a great trainer, he's not gonna become a worldbeater all of a sudden. That's why I say trainers get too much credit.

A trainer is only as good as the fighter he trains - the matchmaking of the promoter can also help
Does it have to do with his fighters being pressured to be in with tougher opposition? Roach has blatantly cherrypicked opponents for his fighters, advising which opponent would be perfect for the certain fighters style. Now with Khan facing Maidana, he struggled but clearly won. With Peterson, I thought Khan won the boxing match, but I don't know what the obvious, continuous pushes was all about. It was getting annoying watching Khan push Peterson so much, you can push a fighter, but do you have to make it so obvious especially in the hometown of your opponent? If you're gonna fight dirty, do it right, pick the perfect spots to fight dirty, do it subtly, be slick with your dirty-fighting. With that said, the fight shouldn't have been as close as it was anyways, but I thought Khan won the fight, but rightfully lost it at the scorecards because of the point deductions. If any one was gonna get jobbed it was Peterson, 115-111 scorecard is ridiculous. But Peterson fought the fight of his life and Khan was running running and running without even boxing or setting anything up, he was just running.
He better not get manager of the year again, if he wins it again it will be just because of the his Parkinson's disease.
I don't mean to be insensitive, just how I see it.
Bad year for Roach.
Once his fighters started churning out KO's your tune will change.
People have very short memory.
Once Pac retires, i think Roaches desire will leave him...
