Im in agreement the ref was entitled to take those points off of Khan and once he had made the stand of not tolerating the infringement then Khan should have wised up and knocked it off....
However many on here disagree and some of them i respect as posters so lets put it to a vote
Was the Ref right or wrong to deduct - YES or NO?
The ref was in the right and Khan fought a somewhat stupid fight. Running, and at times Peterson was literally chasing Khan, actually jogging to him and trying to make a fight happen. Khan on the inside, instead of throwing punches, he would either shake his head at the punches Peterson would land, shove Peterson away, or hold Peterson's head down. What happened to punching? In the UK, Khan can probably get away with this but luckily this happened in Peterson's hometown so none of that bullshit was allowed.
The fact that you even have to bring it up tells the whole story.
Terrible ref. Was more interested in making a name for himself rather than ref a fair fight.
I don't ever remember seeing points taken for pushing. I've seen everyone from Cotto to Mayweather, to Bernard Hopkins do it.
Peterson was pushing as well and wasn't warned.
Peterson was coming with his head in in attempts to head but and wasn't warned.
If he would have addressed the concerns fairly on both sides I wouldn't mind as much but he didn't.
He gave warnings but didn't say "if you push one more time I'm taking a point away". So he was wrong IMO.
Saying "Last warning, stop pushing" is pretty much the exact same thing.
He gave him a last warning, Khan continuing to push after that is his fault and outright stupid.
He was right to take points, but he could have taken them at a number of different points.
The pushing wasn't as bad as the holding Peterson's head down.
Lederman had it a draw iirc. I was surprised my scorecard pretty much matched his...that rarely happens.
Lederman had it 113-112 Khan.
I agree though my scorecard was almost exactly the same as Lederman's minus one round. That rarely happens for me either.
he was in the right, but he could have done a better job of letting khan know on no uncertain terms that he was going to earn himself another point deduction.
Fair enough, I cant remember that but will take your word for it, toegate has distorted my memory. To be honest can see it from both sides, the ref did warn him a hell of a lot, I just think that losing his belts due to 'pushing' is bull ****.
Ref was pretty biased.
There needs to be a f*cking rule on clinching in boxing because this sh!t is ridiculous. Either you make every referee let them fight or you make every referee them break. The fact that the outcome of a fight can be decided by having one referee instead of a different one is one of the worst things about boxing.
I was at the fight. The ref warned Khan numerous times and even stopped the action in the 8th round I think to give a stern final warning about it. The ref was justified in his actions. If Khan wanted to win, he should have won decisively, which he didn't.
I cant ever remember point deductions for pushing in a fight, ever, never mind in a world championship fight. Those deductions won Peterson the belts! Its not a coincidence thay DC is Peterson, and Coopers, home town. A good fight though and big props to Peterson for a hell of a performance overall. I look forward to rematch (will be cheering on Khan again though)...
Lederman had it a draw iirc. I was surprised my scorecard pretty much matched his...that rarely happens.
i never scored it but Peterson looked the better of the 2 overall. When i watch it again Ill score it rd by rd and see what i end up with
i thought as much.
Who did they have winning the fight score wise?Lederman had it a draw iirc. I was surprised my scorecard pretty much matched his...that rarely happens.
HBO was going nuts over the deductions.
As far as being right or wrong, technically he was in the fight because pushing is against the rules. However, it was a little ticky tacky, and a top notch ref (Smoger, Bayless) would never make a call like that.
i thought as much.
