Then,of course, there is his round-by-round breakdown's of Carlos De Leon and Henry Tillman(good friend of Holyfield was Tillman, too - Holyfield was an usher at Tillman's wedding just a couple of months later :lol1:).Neither fight is particularly that competitive or truly engaging, but it highlights Holyfield at his aggressive,boxer-puncher best, showing excellent punch variety and great killer instinct.
man it was fun back then to be a boxing fan
first everyone had the black box so the few ppv fights that came on, we got to see
then you had boxing on CBS, ABC, USA and of course HBO and Showtime
back to Evander, as a Lennox hater at the time, i liked the fight when they robbed the Brit :D
:lol1:
Yessir. They so got him in that fight...and I knew it.
The first Bowe fight - not simply because it was arguably the greatest heavyweight contest in history, but because the significantly smaller Holyfield went twelve rounds in the trenches, engaged in a furious inside battle, against the much larger, younger Bowe, who also happened to be a tremendous inside fighter in his own right, and he more than held his own, even overcoming what looked to be an inevitable stoppage in the 10th round to finish that round on top.
Iron chin and an iron will - don't make em' like him anymore.
Good post and good fight. Evander was tough as nails man. Really wish he would stop fighting...but I don't think he can...if that makes sense.
i dont recall that one being on TNF but yea, i still think of that show from time to time...Sean O'Grady used to piss me off back then but i miss his captain obvious tips-to-win-the-fight :D
Absolutely. Those were the days because on Monday nights, I was all over WWF and WCW and then the very next night I got my boxing fix!

A good choice. When one thinks about it, the amount of great fights Evander has been in is quite staggering.

Evander came out guns blazing tryin to put on a show but Cooper wasn't having it and we had a firefight
that was on free TV too....man i miss those days
Yea, I hear you. I know you remember Tuesday Night fights on USA. Did Jones Jr fight Vinny Paz (another friend of my old dude) on Tuesday Night Fights or am I off? That fight just popped into my head, helluva performance by Jones Jr BTW.
Bert Cooper
just because it was in his hometown and he was getting rocked :D
Red K given, I'll be sure to inform him of this post next time he comes in town.
:nonono:
I've always been partial to the Foreman fight. Holyfield put on a display of boxing skills as well as grit, determination and heart as he went toe-to-toe with the hard punching Foreman on numerous occassions. Foreman had his moments but Evander proved to have a very strong chin and wasn't going anywhere...
Thinking it over this was my favourite Evander fight.
Like BG stated, he showed a great combination of boxing ability but also alot of determination and toughness.
