What Cotto must do (in order) to get a rematch with pacquaio

at the very minimum cotto must fight and win impressively against a top guy at 154. a win on an technicality/ assist from manny pacquaio isnt enough. remember how he got his s**t pushed in against pacquaio. that was a massacre.

its common knowlede that right now nobody would buy into a rematch between cotto and pacman id say he has to, in order: 1.defeat margarito properly in a final rematch to end the trilogy (ko or tony quits on his stool is acceptable) 2.defeat a dangerous and top 10 fighter at 154 (i.e. canelo or kirkland, martinez can fight him at 154 too) OR fight floyd mayweather and at LEAST look good. i know asking him to beat mayweather is too much and highly unlikely lol doing that should restore his name back to what it was and most importantly allow top rank to sell a rematch between him and pacquaio. agree? Nothing, we don't need a rematch and no one wants to see Margarito III. I'm assuming you're posting this from your desk in the Top Rank office, gauging consumer feedback.

Beat Martinez after he disposes of Chavez and he will be top 3 p4p. He will deserve any fight if he does this

Manny agreed with Ariza that straying from his more intensive training routine, his performance has suffered. Pac has agreed to go back to Ariza's more difficult, but more productive traing methods. Manny never complained of leg cramps and looked much better following Ariza's advice. I expect Pac to perform MUCH better next time he fights.

I hope he leaves top rank. He's opened the door to a lot of options.

Cotto must lose badly and accept a catchweight to get manny..........Now that's a flomo answer as a fan he cant get pac again unless he go to 147 or for real accept a catchweight. If manny fight him without catchweight much props to pac.

If Marg's eye is never the same I agree but if not then a third is a valid fight. Gotta see what the future brings. I think that if Tony fights anybody good, he runs a serious risk to permanent blindness. Plus, who would license him, even in the future. Any commission would be taking a big risk on him. An already nervous nysac didn't want to be responsible for licensing a guy with a known bad eye injury. They covered Tony's and their own asses. That eye will never fully heal. i think one clean, hard left hook could damage it permanently. For his own good, i don't think he should fight anymore. He should just retire and live in Mexico where his $$ will last long. He proved he's a warrior. I'm not vindictive as i used to be...lol. i give Tony credit for his still good chin, fearlessness, (more like careless stubbornness). If a past prime Cotto with a great game plan did that to him, a better boxer would do worse.

A rematch for what? He was completely blown out in 09 and somehow in '12 he would deserve (or possibly perform better) another fight? Kinda like the third Morales fight? I'll pass. The thing is though, it's not so far fetched.

1. A rubber match with Margo makes no sense. His eye is really messed up now and Tony would never quit..i really believe he would rather die than quit. And Cotto don't want nothing to do with him anymore, so that book is closed. 2. Cotto needs to stay away from Floyd and Pac.

All those are good, but if he fights Floyd, I don't think fighting Pac is really important at that point. Cotto will have gotten his enormous payday and if somehow he does manage to beat Floyd, that would put Cotto at the top and that point it wouldn't matter if he fought Pac or not. And I suppose to a lesser degree the same could be said if he defeated Sergio Martinez.

Nobody needs to see Cotto vs Margo 3, especially not with that eye. Mayweather doesnt want and more importantly need a Cotto fight. Kirkland would be great though. He is with Bob so all he realistically has to do is ask for the Pacman fight.
