Floyd Mayweather and Pernell Whitaker pay homage... It is quite amazing how similar Floyd fights like this man; never mentioned along with boxing greats because the greats of his time avoided him and ducked him with every chance they got.
sorry video does not embed; must watch on youtube.

Sorry that the video doesn't embedd.
He wasn't Mayweather before Mayweather...I would say George Benton was Mayweather before Mayweather...Their styles exactly alike IMO, very similar.
And, Burley does get mention with the other greats. For so long he was so underrated that now he might be a tad bit overrated...But, easily a top 50 ATG.
There was guys in his era that might have been his equal. Members from the BMR like Holman Williams and to a far lesser extent Eddie Booker is not that far behind IMO. And, they don't get mention like Burley does. Now a lot of that has to do with Eddie Futch proclaiming Burley to be the most complete fighter he ever saw and also because SRR(who many claim as the GOAT) ducked Burley.
He had 12 losses, and it lost throughout his career.
Thank God for boxrec or we'd never know about how inconsistent Burley really was.
Here's an idea my friend.....do some research by looking up Burley in old newspaper articles, Pittsburgh papers would have the most info. Check out some old Ring magazines from that time period and read "Charley Burley and the black murderers row" by Harry Otty. After that get back to us and Im sure you will have a different view. Peace!

Keep in mind that this is just one person's opinion on Burley's style. We don't know how much real boxing experience he actually has, so while it sounds nice and scientific it could also just be a bunch of empty intellectualization from a non-expert.
But at least he took the time to break down his ideas and make the video.
just had to chime. the dude who made the vid trains prize fighters. Is an expert. I know if him. And he's a good lad

Excellent post! Hopefully now many fans who haven't seen this clip of his fight will understand why he is so highly regarded. Wish we could have seen him fight Sugar Ray Robinson.
