I say this because 1. Cant recall him ever being cut in a fight, and 2. He seemed to be freaked out when his lip was cut do to Ortiz's ramming headbutt.
Would he keep his composure and stay calm as he usually is, or would it effect him mentally? We all know that getting lumped up or cut is very possible if he were to face Pac.
Your thoughts?
Honestly... I'm a huge Floyd fan but even I think that he would struggle with a big gash. He has never been exposed to that level of damage and I am not sure how he would take it mentally... I remember watching the Calzaghe-Jones bout and seeing how dramatically the gash affected Roy who had never been cut in his career. I know he was washed up even in that fight but he did have a knockdown and much confidence until he started getting out-hustled and suffered that cut. Cotto became extremely conservative against Clottey during the latter rounds of their fight. Devon Alexander turned "girly man" after he got cut against Bradley in their fight... There are just soo many instances where cuts alter the mood and overall direction of a fight. Why would Floyd be any different? That being said, I highly doubt Floyd will ever reach that point as he very rarely gets hit with that kind of thunder... The shoulder roll is exceptionally effective against head shots and he has proven to have mastered that technique along with top-tier footwork to slide away from damage. You can hate the man all you want guys... But the kid is special.
Floyd may be very sensitive outside the ring, there's no doubt about that but he's one of the most composed and calmest in the ring. It's uncanny sometimes. He has a very strong mental fortitude, we don't get to see it often - the Mosley fight is really good recent example.
I don't think he'll keep his composure. He was pretty upset when he got cut by victor's headbutt. He's got a good defense, it'll be tough to cut em with a punch.
He was upset by the intentional headbutt causing the cut not the cut itself. And he didn't lose his composure which is why he was able to hit Ortiz with a left hook and a straight right.
The hilarity and irony of the situation is the person who committed the foul was the one to lose his composure. Idiot forgot he was in a fight and left his guard down.

I think his mindset is alot different from then till now though. Back then he was young and knew he had a rough road ahead of him if he wanted to make it to the top. He was a hungrier fighter with plenty to prove. Now he's sitting comfortably at the top with an ego bigger than Mt. Everest.
So you think he's more likely to get flustered by a cut now that he's more experienced? LOL that makes zero sense.
He was cut by a head clash in the 2nd round in the 1st fight he had with Jose Luis Castillo. It wouldn't be no thing. He's a fighter. They're prepared for these kinds of things.
wow the crowd reaction was hilarious !!!! they started booing from the middle 2nd round !!!!! and whats up with mayweather padding his record by only fighting 4 rounds !!!!! anyway back to the main point of the thread mayweather and cuts !!!!! anyone with 2 eyes can see that ortiz cutting mayweather definatly threw him off his game plan !!!! floyd was confused and didnt know how to react like a real professional !!!! manny who was also delibratly cut in his fight with marquez didnt take the easy way out instead he did what champion do !!! he won the championship rounds!!!!!
Pactards...every time I think one has said the dumbest thing ever, they come back then next with something even dumber.
And if I remember correctly, that isn't the only time he has been cut over his eye by a headbutt.
Unless I'm thinking of the same fight. Pretty sure it wasn't his second pro fight, though.
He was cut above his eye again against some spanish dude, I think it was Nunez.

You really think that most of this board have seen all 42 of Mayweather's fights?
The large percentage of this board weren't watching Boxing when Mayweather started fighting.
Most people that dislike Mayweather starting watching him in 2006 and 2007 onward. Do you really think these people will go back and watch Mayweather's 42 fights in which all but 1 he wins in clear fashion? No chance.
This is so true. Especially many of the people who said he was having trouble in the Victor Ortiz fight. If they had seen Mayweathers earlier fights they would have seen that Mayweather was in far more trouble in some of his earlier fights and he always found a way to win. Mayweather was in complee control the entire time against Ortiz.
Against Ortiz the cut isn't what made him react it was the deliberate headbutt. He just decided to show Ortiz no respect and close shop there and then.
He's been cut and worse in previous fights, it didn't break him mentally.
fair points but to be honest, i think he was "freaked out" more because of ortiz' transformation into a billy goat and his subsequent head launching than the cut itself.
100% agreed
Yes but we've all seen certain fighters change as soon as they develop a bad cut mid fight. Judah is one, and we saw what happened to Ortiz once he was cut and bleeding against Maidana. Its more a mental thing than a pain thing. In your head you're like "damn, if he keeps hitting this cut, its not gonna be good" Kind've throws your whole game off for certain fighters. You're now worried about protecting that cut moreso than executing your game plan.
yeah, I know alot of fighters do. So does Juan Diaz but I dont think Floyd would. I think he just freaked out a lil against Ortiz because of what I said. You never know though. I think alot of it also depends on the opponent and what they are able to bring to him. I dont think he wants a cut against a guy who can attack with speed, power, angles, and the Southpaw style like Pac. I think that may freak him out some but you never know

Personally, I'm never that interested in the very early fights in a fighter's career to the point I'd find them and watch them. Almost all the special guys I'd be interested in seeing early fights of would just be beating the sh** out of totally overmatched fighters, that doesn't do much for me. The couple of really early Mayweather fights I have seen were certainly under that category.
Seeing them as they happen is different, but I've seen almost if not all of Mayweather's important fights and that's enough.
The bolded actually answers your question my man. You are talking about the most mentally fit Boxer of our era. He remains calm in the face of adversity like no other and sticks to his gameplan regardless of whats in front of him.
Look at the Zab and Mosley fights. As his corners where extremely excited(and for the Zab fight it is safe to use the term in Complete and Utter Chaos), Floyd remained just as calm as he does in between those rounds as he does for every other round he has fought throughout his career. He has been cut before and handled the cut in the exact same manner. If he is cut again you will more than likely see Floyd motor through it as he does with everything else. You may see Floyd get his feathers ruffled in an interview, but you do NOT see them ruffled within the ring.
Very good point. Good examples too, BTW.
Of course no fighter likes getting hit. What i"m saying is, Floyd especially didnt like it because he's not use to getting hit that cleanly! It took him and everyone watching by surprise and you can see it in his face that he was embarrased by it.
I knew what you were trying to say.
