Are there any fighters that you either disliked before you eventually became a fan of them, or liked them before they did something to make you dislike them? For me, I have been a big Khan fan for a while, I even defended him when he got knocked out by Prescott, but more and more I am really starting to dislike the guy. I am getting tired of him always trying to be the center of attention all the damn time and even willing to throw other fighters (Pacquiao) under the bus just to see his damn name in the newspaper. My others:
I disliked before becoming a fan:
De La Hoya - won me over with the Quartey win
Vitali - Became a big fan after watching him kick Lewis' ass
Winky Wright - Became a fan after I met him
I liked but eventually would dislike:
Bernard Hopkins - Throwing down the PR flag and dirty tactics
Wlad Klitschko - For being soft in fights
Vic Darchinyan - For the way he acted after the Donaire fight
Change for the good:
Carl Froch - I really didn't change my opinion, I just never really had on opinion on him until the Super 6.
Bandon Rois - I didn't like him after the remarks he made about Freddie Roach, but his exciting fighting style has won me back.
Andre Berto - Didn't like him because he was fighting a bunch of chumps, but after stepping up and fought Ortiz, even tough he lost, I admire the fact he actually took a chance. He might of thought it was going to be a pretty easy fight, but it was still a big step up for him.
Change for the bad:
Timothy Bradley - Because he dodged Admir Khan.
Amir Khan - For fighting nothing but chumps after the Maidana fight. Maidana was the only one lately that offered a real challenge to him. He could have made a rematch with him but choose to fight chumps instead.
Sergio Martínez - He won me after after the Paul Williams fights, but since then, he has choose to fight chumps. I am also not impressed by the fact that he has called out little welterweights. Move up a weight class Sergio and fight some real fighters.
Hated Floyd, but after the Gatti fight I became a fan. Then he went on to his 24/7 persona, and now I hate him personally but I respect the fighter. By that I mean his skills, his lack of fighting and the one's he hasn't fought along the way... Great fighter who doesn't want to challenge himself, its sad.
Was a huge Mosley fan, he's from my hometown but watching him now... I wish he would just give it up, so many fans that Manny and Floyd have brought into boxing and they all think "Mosley" sucks. Its a shame they couldn't see him including and before the Cotto fight.
I liked Margarito I admired his heart and just full on beast he was, but then we found out why so I hate that c*nt.
Froch is awesome, Ward is a diva who I can't stand, Dirrell is a b*tch for not fighting Ward because of what Arthur did to him. Rios is a warrior mad respect and he's clean.
Used to like Manny but as someone said his fans are so incredibly ignorant on boxing but they think they know it all. I remember I told this guy at work Manny CAN be beat, he HAS been beat. I never seen someone so visibly hurt, I swear it was like I told him his mom died. It was like how dare you say something bad about Manny. I guess I still do like Manny as a fighter, kind of the same situation as Floyd, his stupid "I'm a do gooder" persona irks the sh*t out of me such like Floyd. No one is that perfect Manny and all this "good" your doing I see you with a bigger and bigger entourage every fight and now you're riding in a tour bus. GTFO with that sh*t you wouldn't be helping anyone if you weren't making 100x's that sh*t back.
Always disliked Ali, Lewis and Hopkins. Still don't so they don't fall into the Topic Starter's requirements.
Tha only one who does, is the late Diego Corrales. I disliked him intensely, regarded him as nothing but an oversized bully who beat up smaller, almost defenceless fighters. nd then he beat his wife. But shortly before the Mayweather fight, he gaev a long TV interview in which he was asked about his wifebeating charge, and he gave a very sad look, and said quietly, that there were 2 sides to the story and he wasn't all at fault and people would know when they heard his side. Then he was asked about why he took the fight, when he'd given up the division because he couldn't make the weight any more, and would even have trouble making lightweight, he just gave a very deep sigh, and said that yes, it was very difficult trying to make the weight, but....and here he looked very lost, "they gave me an offer I couldn't refuse". It also came out that he was broke and up to his eyes in Lawyers' fees debt, really desperate.
So I saw that there was indeed a very human side to this monstrous bully, and he was really just a kid who needed better guidance than he was getting. And had been taken advantage of in his desperate need by the "Mayweather Brains Trust" as it was called by journalists and analysts in those days. The fight itself showed the tremendous effect that making the weight cost him.
So from then on, looked at him with different eyes, and kept an eye on his progress.
I could not stand Froch before the Super Six. Now he's one of my favorites. I was an Abraham fan before his pathetic no heart performances against Froch and Ward.
I didn't really dislike many fighters when I was younger. It's much easier to dislike fighters over the last 2 decades as opposed to before then. Probably because fighters just got way more diva-ish in recent times.
I guess I didn't like Aaron Pryor too much and would wanted to see him get knocked out for beating Arguello who was and is my favourite fighter. I had no problem with him before that.
I've always hated Muhammad Ali but my opinion's never changed of him :lol1:
Hated Rocky Lockridge after he knocked out Roger Mayweather.
Quite liked Chavez but then after Whitaker got robbed I took it out on Chavez and wanted to see him get beat up and always rooted against him.
In recent times I've always been up and down on Bernard Hopkins. Like him one week, dislike him the next.
Carl Froch I used to dislike and have no respect for. Now, I dislike him but have respect for him.
List goes on and on really. Boxing is a sport that really brings out emotions :lol1:
Froch - Used to think he was all mouth and would get blasted once at world level. After the Pascal fight i started to change my thinking and it's ended up with him being one of my favourites
Lewis - I went on the Lewis rolercoaster with ups and downs on him but after he did Bruno I was onboard and now he's gone i look back and think he did pretty damn well
Mike Tyson - I thought he was untouchable and then he broke before all our eyes and he was never the same again.
Used to dislike, now I like:
Carl Froch is the only one that comes to mind. I was rooting against him in the Taylor fight, and in the Dirrell fight, and in the Kessler fight, but ever since shutting out Abraham and re-considering his string of strong oppsition and very good performances (even in defeat), I admire the guy's determination. Ward also irritates me the way he's only fought in his hometown throughout the Super Six. I'm rooting for Carl, but my head says Ward.
Amir Khan- I don't really like him. I'm always rooting against him...but I now respect the guy ever since he got his chin checked against Maidana. Hell of a performance.
I don't think there is anything Broner can do, short of curing cancer with his fists that will ever allow me to like him.
Dude fights hard. You don't like him because he's a self promoter? Thats kinda crazy.

I hated Froch. I love that dude now.
How could you ever dislike Wright! >.<
I really wanted to like Haye but just couldn't...
I use to like Pac put I'm changing my opinion...that little dude's weird
oh yeah Haye, how could i forget.
I wanted him to destroy the brothers when he first went to HW.
Somewhere along the way I ended up wanting him go get put in a stretcher, and I think it was before the Audley "fight"
Totally agree with the Froch and Rios mentions.
I was rooting hard for Taylor when him and Froch fought. But Froch has just worked his way into one of my favorite fighters.
Rios also used to rub me the wrong way, but now I like him. Moreso than liking him, I just think he's really, really good which I didn't initially.
Brandon Rios. For some reason the dude just rubbed me the wrong way during and after the Peterson fight but I've become a fan. He has a very exciting fighting style and he's freakin hilarious. :D
I didnt like Froch cos i was a Calzaghe fanboy and he annoyed me. He's one of my fave fighters now. Constantly fights the best and is usually entertaining in and out of the ring.
I never really liked Floyd but the way he KOd Ortiz after getting head butted made me a fan. That and the Pac fans have been getting on my nerves a lot which might have made me like him a bit more in the hope he'll fight and beat him so they'll **** of.
