Of this gen what five fighters will be mention the most, short summary why?
1 Floyd Mayweather_ gens most skilled and dominate fighter
2 Manny Pacquiao_ gens most fearless and accomplished
3 Vladimer Klitsko_gens most dominate heavyweight never had a true threat
4 Antonio Margarito_gens most contraversial fighter true villian
5 Benard Hopkins_gens most aspiring fighter
Thats how I think it maybe. Discuss
Mayweather, Pacquaio, Hopkins, Roy Jones etc will all be remembered in 50 years time.
I imagine Mayweather will become overrated, epecially if he retires undefeated. A fighter of Mayweather's skill level along with retiring undefeated are the two biggest reasons for fighters being overrated so putting them together I sense he will become overrated.
The second tier people like Cotto, Paul Williams, Martinez etc will be the oens who will get lost in time. I've seen hundreds of those calibur fighters come and go. That I imagine a large percentage of this board will have never heard of.
The ATG's of the era like Mayweather, Pac, Hopkins, Jones, Marquez, Morales etc won't be forgotten.
That's just sheer bullsh*t, frankly.
Bernard Hopkins may come from the old school and have old school elements to his game but he's not a raw old school fighter.
Old school fighters will fight dirty but then won't cry and complain when they get it back.
Old school fighters don't fake low blows and ask for breaks.
Nor would they stay down for 5 minutes after getting hit behind the head when they have been doing it just as much in the same fight.
Ask yourself if Sandy Saddler or Bennie Brisco would roll around on the canvass pretending to be hurt. Would never happe.
Hopkins does't compare to those guys when it comes to 'being old school'
:lol1: Tell'em.
Floyd-Raw untapped talent never rose to his true potential.
Manny Pacman- Most overrated fighter of the era.
Wlad Klith- 2nd only to big brother of the era.
Margarito- Agree with you.
B-Hop-Best fighter of the era, last of an extinct breed of oldschool fighter.

Puerto rican weed must be incredible
:lol1::lol1:
B.Hop, Roy, Floyd and Manny from this era...Tyson is the ONLY HW from this time....so those connected to Tyson will be remembered as well...like Buster Douglass, Holyfield and Lewis
No matter what you say, Vitali will be remembered as one of the most dominating heavyweights of all time with the greatest KO percentage of all time, every future HW champion will be compared to him and will be considered worse than him by many.
"Vitali Klitschko would have killed him" - that's what will be said about any HW champ in the future.
If the talent level doesn't get any better I'll be forced to agree with you. Thankfully we'll never be able to say that about Vitaly and the champions of the past though. ;)
V Klitschko is one of the most dominant heavies stats-wise of all time. I think he might be number 1 actually.
Why does no one remember LaMar Clark who was 43-3 with 42 ko's? Answer: because his comp was terrible and he lost when he stepped up. See Vitaly.
With Mayweather we usually see mundane fights and outside of the ring his personality is that of faux gangsta rapper, he simply won't have longevity because he doesn't excite, thrill or leave us in awe.
??? soo his clinics don't leave people in awe? His counter-punching doesn't leave people in awe? PLZZ are you still so butthurt over the Hatton fight?
You bash the guy every opportunity you get
Yes he will.
How many people talk about Ken Norton? Exactly.
Hopkins will be lost to time.
the ones that love and appreciate the sport do. people that dont know who bhop is now, will most likely not know him 50 years from now. any boxing fan will remember bhop as long as boxing is around

You're comparing Hopkins with Mayweather? Come on! Almost everyone in this thread named Mayweather. Top 25 fighter(after its all said and done), retired undefeated(if he does), top 3 defensive fighter and possibly will gross the most ppv sales in American boxing history. Pretty sure that Mayweather will be remembered for a longggggg time. Not to mention his whole flashy/bad guy image. Stop hating.
Sounds like you have a serious case of man-love. Look I'm not disputing his record or his ability, merely how memorable he will be as a fighter. This guy sums it up well:
the reason why theres no one being talked about now who WAS the most skilled defensive fighter in the early years/past is simply because NOBODY talks about them. they talk about the raging bulls, brown bombers, henry armstrongs, iron mikes, manos de piedras of the world, even those who floats like butterflies and stings like bees fighters but never the shoulder rollers, or turtle shell defenders.
and this guy shows just how quickly a fighter can fade from the memory:
It's funny, DLH has been retired for only 3 years and I feel he has already been forgotten.
For a fighter to be remembered there needs to be something of the spectacular about him, or at very least has been involved in legendary thrilling fights.
With Mayweather we usually see mundane fights and outside of the ring his personality is that of faux gangsta rapper, he simply won't have longevity because he doesn't excite, thrill or leave us in awe.
The fighters of the past that I think are remembered are Ali, Tyson, Leonard, Duran, Hearns and Hagler.

I think the fighters of today that will be remembered are V Klitschko, B Hops, Mayweather and Pacquiao (in that order).

No.
K-bros will be lost to time.
Margarito won't be remembered at all.
Hopkins will be lost to time.
Mayweather will be recognized as a greater fighter than he is now. But won't have one of "standout" wins on his record.
Pacquiao would be remembered but for his accomplishments pre 140+. Reason being, most of the knowledgeable boxing fans know that his fights weren't all legit. He'd probably get the most respect for hatton post 140+. But all these catchweights and then the Marquez 3 fight. You already have respected boxing historians/critics already downplaying those fights post 140+.
Hopkins wont be lost at all"..
its funny flomos were praising floyd to high heavens for being what? fifty years from now he will be talked about as the boxer with the greatest defensive skills? and flomos were boasting when theyre asking who else in the history of boxing is greater defensively than floyd. they never get it, dont they? the reason why theres no one being talked about now who WAS the most skilled defensive fighter in the early years/past is simply because NOBODY talks about them. they talk about the raging bulls, brown bombers, henry armstrongs, iron mikes, manos de piedras of the world, even those who floats like butterflies and stings like bees fighters but never the shoulder rollers, or turtle shell defenders. if ever floyd will be talked about in the future it will be about how he battered his baby momma, his internet racist rants, his poking adventures, his having somebody shot at, his ellerbes chest rubs and fiddy diddy kiss/peck before he went up the ring. prolly also his lotto soda. floyd will be just a footnote, he will be look up as a novelty act in boxing history. the future is bleak for floyds boxing legacy
Not many fighters will be talked about at all, only the iconic exciting fighters whose feats will live long in the memory, as I said, a beast like Tyson or a phenomenon like little Manny Pacquiao, individuals who are out of the ordinary.
Defensive fighters like Hopkins and Mayweather will fade from memory pretty quickly, neither has the personality outside the ring to transcend the mundane style (as far as the greater public is concerned) inside it. If Hopkins has a shot at being remembered it will be for becoming the oldest world champion but that slot isn't inviolable.
Of course you will get some boxing geeks who will know a little bit extra but generally speaking, for the public at large, the fighters who will be remembered are the ones who truly thrilled us.
Wille Pep hasn't been forgotten, nor Locche or Benitez.
You're nuts if you think Mayweather will be forgotten, especially if he doesn't lose. A lot of boxing rankings already have Mayweather very high and his defense is talked about as top 3 of all time. He will be remembered and be more appreciated down the line.
I assume this guy is talking about guys from the 2000s. Dudes that people will talk about 50 years from now aka for the end of time in this era Roy Jones Jr, Oscar, Floyd, and Manny. Hopkins and some other hall of famers will be talked about but not in the same like as those 4 because each one of those guys brought something new to the game or changed the sport.
