* Great fights that should have happened but didnt. who wudda?
Lennox vs Bowe *After Bowe-Holy III
Wlad vs Lennox * Before Vitali
Erik Morales vs Juan Manuel Marquez *2004 after the Pac I @130
Jose Luis Castillo vs Miguel Cotto *After Chico II @140
Ricky Hatton vs Arturo Gatti *After Tsyu fight @140
Shane Mosley vs Tito Trinidad * after Oscar II @154
Manny Pacquiao vs Paulie Ayala *2003 @122 before Barrera
Antonio Margarito vs Ricardo Mayorga
Floyd Mayweather vs Joel Cassamayor @130 before the Ndou fight.
Mike Tyson vs David Tua * Before Williams fight
he has a good chin but it isn't on par with Margarito's
I would say its on par. Vernon Forrest was a huge puncher, and Mayorga took his shots all night and welcomed them. Not to mention he took a licking agaisnt Trinidad at Middleweight, and was really only broken because of body shots. Thats a hell of a chin.
That being said, this Marg-Mayorga would be decided on stamina, Mayorga would be in control early, but he just wasnt consistant...Marg would be able to grind him a little early with body attack, and his workrate and stamina would pay off in mid-late. close fight on the scorecards, and Margarito would have to rely on his chin for the first 4 or so rounds.
Thats what makes that fight so intriguing.....
Granite chin + speed +power and his willingness to trade
while Trinidad had that killer left hook and more than enough power to spare.
I see Mosley beating Trinidad... probably dropping him early, which would end up helping Mosley get a decision if he didn't flat out stop him.
This fight is at 154, where Trinidad was a bit more stable and Mosley wasnt quite as explosive. I see Trinidad being hurt, probably dropped, but that happened a million times in his career and he still went on to win. After a nasty start from him, his accurate power shots would land to regularly on an offensive opponent like Mosley, and Trinidad would start breaking him to the body. Mosley would hurt Trinidad early, Trinidad would start hurting Mosley late and turn him defensive when his bombs landed...and they likely would, since Mosley's defense was never exactly amazing.
What the hell am I still doing awake?
i like mayorga over margarito. mayorga has eqaul chin + much more one punch power+ big gahones= stops margarito worse than mosley. closest fight imo are jmm-morales and mosley-trinidad, I'm stumped.

How about Mosley - Trinidad ?
Trinidad - loves his power and would try all night long to land that vaunted left hook
Mosley - Granite chin with great power as well.
ITS CRAZY it didnt happened!
Mosley by late stoppage would be by bet.

Morales's technique againts Jesus Chaves and Carlos Hernadez was gracious and menacing as well. Marquez wont have an easy time countering him.
comparing Victor Polo and Orlando Salido Performance againts Chavez and Hernandez plus the fact that this is the ultimate time period that both are closer to their primes. ( 2004 )
Morales handily beats JMM by 2 to 3 pts IMO.
Morales wasnt someone easy to counter. He was very rarely off balance from his shots, and often faked leading so that he could counter counters.
and if thats not prime Marquez, then who is? the one that struggled and was dropped against Norwood? Marquez didnt even really blow out Robbie Peden, and ate a fair amount of jabs and right hands against him and bloodied his nose, and thats was Morales' bread and butter.
one of the best things Morales did was keep cool during exchanges. He would be able to slip most of the combos, and interupt the middle of them with his own shots.
The image of Marquez being successful in countering Pacquiao who comes forward all the time MUST have stuck in to your mind.
Marquez looks vulnerable againts Cassa, JuanD, and Kats. He didnt look all too dominating as well againts Salido and the Thai dude.
Marquez will have trouble againts a boxer/puncher of Morales caliber. Morales was Superb that year ( 2004 )
.....Marquez was closer to 40 than he was to 30 when he fought those guys lol
Salido is underrated in my opinion, and John made Marquez lead which isn't really what hes best at. It wouldn't be the same fight with Morales.
bah. prime Morales was a near unstoppable force. Even in his last great performance when he was already fading he beat Pacquiao more one sidedly than Marquez ever did.
Marquez gets hit constantly, even against guys like Jandaeng Terdsak and a faded Casamayor, and struggled against the boxing ability of Chris John and Freddie Norwood. Morales shined more than anything else in a firefight, not to mention he had better boxing ability than both John and Norwood.
Not that I dont think it would be a great fight, Morales couldnt resist putting on a show...but I feel Morales could really be the only winner in this match.
.....Marquez was already in his Mid 30's and past his physical prime when he fought Terdsak and Casamayor.. He was definitely more willing to trade at that point.. He's always been a counter puncher, in his physical prime he lacked aggression which would hurt him in some fights.
But I think we know that wouldn't be a factor with Morales. Morales would take the fight to him which would play into Marquez's hands.
Which is why I think Marquez's would end up getting a decision over Morales.
I only favor him slighlty though. A prime El Terrible was a monster
I think you're underestimating Marquez....
I see him adjusting to Morales in the mid rounds and beating him to a tough UD... or stopping him late on damage.
It would've been a great match though

Nah he wouldn't
his only chance would be to hurt him early....which would've been possible.

oh, thats the Morales that is fighting Marquez?
Then I also favor Marquez in that matchup.
prime Morales beats prime Marquez however.
Thats not the one :(
Carlos Hernandez and Jesus Chavez version comfortably beats Marquez IMO.
the decline started with Barrera III in a fight Morales really hated. He was not well motivated for that fight.

Hold on my bad I think he meant Marquez after his first Pacquiao fight. That changes everything. Its a 50/50 fight
It seems that Erik Morales's capabilities are being overlooked. :D
2004 Erik Morales is still a brillian warrior, I see him as the winner in a tough fight againts JMM.

Morales was washed up after beating Pacquiao and proved it against Raheem and Diaz
first fight with pac was 2005 :)
Pls Watch Jesus Chavez and Carlos Hernandez fight pls. Thanks

I thought the same.
Edit nope we were right from the beginning
